Southbank area and Melbourne Arts Center
Southbank & Arts Center Melbourne
Australia, Melbourne
Southbank is an urban area, one of the main business centers in Greater Melbourne, with high-rise offices that house the headquarters or regional offices of many large corporations. Southbank is also one of the main entertainment areas of the city. There are shopping centers, casinos, restaurants, a promenade along the south bank of the Yarra River, and an arts center.
Melbourne Arts Center combines several buildings, the central of which is the building of the National Opera House, crowned with an elegant tall spire. The Arts Center also includes the Museum of Art, the George Adams Gallery, Hamer Hall for 2,661 seats, the Playhouse Theatre, a cafe, a pizzeria, and the Mantra Southbank apartments. Concerts of classical music or jazz, music festivals, exhibitions and theatrical performances take place here. On Sundays, on the lawn in front of the complex, exhibitions and sales of products of local craftsmen are held.
