The monumental building with a 250-meter-long facade was erected in 1909-1913 by architect Ludwig Baumann to house the Austro-Hungarian Ministry of War. The building has nine courtyards, one of which, 40 meters long with a glass roof, was used as a riding school. Seven floors, not counting the attic; about 1000 rooms, 2500 windows.

In 1938-1945 the building was used by the German army. The building was damaged by Allied bombing and ground battles with the Red Army. In 1952, the restoration of the building was completed. Various federal ministries were located here. There are now three - labor, social affairs, health and consumer protection; digitization and location of enterprises; sustainable development and tourism.

The central risalit is distinguished by half-columns of the Ionic order, balconies and balustrades, lion's heads, and stucco.
In the center of the roof is a giant bronze double-headed eagle (wingspan - 16 meters). Author - Emanuel Peindl. Next to it are the allegorical sculptures "Wrestling" and "Winner's Award" by Hans Bitterlich. In two triangular pediments bas-reliefs by Otmar Š ymkowicz. The first floor is decorated with stone heads of soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian army in various forms - the work of Wilhelm Hayde.

In front of the building is a monument to Field Marshal Radetsky and two fountains. The equestrian statue of the most prominent Austrian general of his time, Field Marshal Josef Wenzel, Count von Radetz of Radetz, was created in 1892 by sculptor Caspar von Zumbusch and architect Georg Niemann. The monument is set on a red marble pedestal. In front it is decorated with a bronze double-headed eagle, and on the sides - two bronze bas-reliefs depicting a field marshal at a military council with generals and among the soldiers of his army.
The fountains were designed by architect Ludwig Baumann in 1912. The stone columns end in bronze double-headed eagles. On the pedestal of the columns are four bronze lion heads, from which water flows into stone pools.
