Vienna Gasometers

Wiener Gasometer
Austria, Vienna
The Vienna Gasometers are four former coke oven gas tanks located in the Vienna Simmering working area. Gas holders were built back in 1896–1899, and in 1999–2001 they were converted into residential complexes, preserving the historical appearance of the buildings. At present, the Vienna Gasometers is a kind of "city within a city", which has a cinema, a concert hall, a student hostel, shopping and entertainment areas.

If at some point in time you get tired of the imperial luxury of Vienna, and you want to see a completely different Vienna, then you definitely need to go to the eleventh district of the city, to the Gasometers complex. How to get there? Metro line U3, to the Gasometer stop. What are Gasometers? This is an alliance of housing and shopping and entertainment center in converted industrial buildings. The trick is that it all takes place inside giant gas storages - four round red brick towers built in 1886.
