The Desert Pavilion was built by architect A. Custodis in the Art Nouveau style of iron and glass in the park of
Schoenbrunn Palace at the beginning of the 20th century. It served as a greenhouse for the conservation of valuable species of trees and plants from Australia and South Africa. The pavilion is currently administered by the association of the Austrian Federal Gardens and the
Schoenbrunn Zoo - and since 2004, the desert ecosystem has been represented here. Visitors can see a variety of cacti, as well as plants and animals from Madagascar, the deserts of the Sahara and Central America.
