During the Middle Ages, it became a marketplace (hence its name), as well as a place for executions and trials. The Hoher Markt square is interesting with a magnificent fountain of the 18th century located in its center. “The Marriage of the Virgin Mary to Joseph”, in the Baroque style of bronze and marble, as well as located in its eastern corner Anchor clock "Ankerur".

Now it is not an area, but an extended part of the street. In 1194, Duke Leopold V founded the first mint in this area, where Austrian pfennigs were minted from silver paid as a ransom for King Richard the Lionheart. In the 15th century there was a cloth shop, a canvas workshop and a canvas merchants' exchange; shoemakers guild house and shoe store. Now the main decorations are the fountain of Joseph in the middle of the square and the famous anchor clock, about which there are separate pages on the site.
