Now it is not an area, but an extended part of the street. In 1194, Duke Leopold V founded the first mint in this area, where Austrian pfennigs were minted from silver paid as a ransom for King Richard the Lionheart. In the 15th century there was a cloth shop, a canvas workshop and a canvas merchants' exchange; shoemakers guild house and shoe store. Now the main decorations are the fountain of Joseph in the middle of the square and the famous anchor clock, about which there are separate pages on the site.→
