The authors of the monument are sculptor Victor Tilgner and architect Karl Koenig. The sculpture and pedestal are made of white Laaser marble with bronze details. The front face of the pedestal is made in the form of a piano keyboard. Below it is a bas-relief with scenes from the opera Don Juan. On the back of the pedestal is a bas-relief depicting six-year-old Mozart on an instrument, his father and sister (drawn by artist Louis Carrogis de Carmonteles).

The monument was erected on Albertinaplatz and inaugurated on April 21.1896. During the Second World War he suffered from bombing. After restoration in 1953, it was installed in the city garden. Around the monument is a stone balustrade.
