The Josef Ressel Monument is located at the entrance to the main building of the Technical University of Vienna on Karlsplatz. It was opened in 1863 in honor of Josef Ressel, the design engineer who invented the propeller blade. The bronze statue was installed by the decision of the city civil committee.

This monument is located in front of the Technical University. The author of the monument is the sculptor Anton Dominik Fernkorn. The monument was erected in 1863. Josef Ludwig Františ ek (Franz) Russell, an Austrian forester engineer and inventor of Czech origin, proposed a new propeller for the ship, the propeller located in the stern, and built the world's first steamer propeller, the Civeta.
