The Palm Conservatory at
Schoenbrunn Palace was built of steel and glass in 1882 by engineer Ignaz Gridl. This is the largest pavilion in the park of this residence. Its length is 113 m and it consists of a central part 28 m high and two 3-meter side wings. The Palmenhaus looks like a tunnel passage and is divided into several climatic zones: cold in the northern wing, temperate in the center and tropical in the southern wing. There are about 4.5 thousand various plants here. Today, visitors to the Palm Pavilion will be interested to see the oldest plant in the greenhouse - a 350-year-old olive tree, as well as the Seychellois palm. Noteworthy are the collections of azaleas and tree ferns.
