The Ringstrasse or Ring Street, 6.5 km long, was built in the second half of the 19th century. as part of the expansion of the city on the site of the old city walls that have lost their significance. It consists of several sections and is a horseshoe-shaped boulevard semicircle that encircles the city center.
The ring is considered to be the focus of Vienna's attractions - these are the
City Hall,
Parliament, Stock Exchange, University,
Burgtheater,
Vienna State Opera, museum complexes. The buildings on the boulevard ring were built in the historical style with features of Gothic, Classicism and Renaissance. The monumental houses and palaces (Ephrussi, Epstein, Todesco, Hansen, etc.) of the boulevard are interspersed with gardens, parks and squares. There are tram tracks along the Ring and today you can take a trip on the Tour tram (Vienna Tram Ring) along the "Vienna Ring" and see all its main attractions.
Ringstrasse has become the most important transport artery of the city and the venue for important events in the capital of Austria.
