It was built by the Austrian architect Heinrich von Ferstel in 1860. The vaulted passage is lined with marble and decorated with pilasters. In its center is an inner arcaded courtyard with a glass dome and a fountain crowned with a statue of a Danube mermaid. One of Vienna's most beautiful palaces is the Ferstel Palace, which overlooks Frejung Square and the Herengasse Street, also famous for its palaces. And Ferstel's palace is just one of them. This building recently celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. It is unusual that the house was named not in honor of its owner, but in honor of its architect, thus perpetuating his name. The palace in the style of the Florentine-Venetian Renaissance was built for the Austro-Hungarian Bank. There was also a stock exchange, and in 1877 the famous Caf? Central, which attracted many famous people with its impressive setting.
