At the end of the 19th century, an exhibition complex, the Kä nstlerhaus, was built by order of the Vienna Union of Artists, which needed exhibition space. This is a massive two-story Renaissance building and today stands on Charles Square, near the Ringstrasse. The Artist's House was built in 1865-68. Since its opening, it has served as an exhibition center for paintings and sculptures, architecture, and applied arts. The building was designed by August Weber in the style of an Italian villa of the Renaissance.→
