The beautiful palace and park complex of Ambras Castle, built in the middle of the 16th century, is located on the outskirts of Innsbruck. The castle was built on the site of a dilapidated fortress as the residence of King Ferdinand II, known for his love of fine arts, science and creativity. The personal collection of the king included the best works of world painting and sculpture, jewelry, weapons and valuable antiques. Today, the castle museum is one of the most visited attractions in the city.
