Republic Square

Republican Square, Republic Square
Armenia, Yerevan
The central square of Yerevan is Republic Square, which was named after Lenin before the independence of Armenia. The square was designed by the chief architect of Yerevan, Alexander Tamanyan, and was built from 1924-1958. Its shape, originally conceived as oval, eventually turned out to be more complex - a combination of an oval with a trapezoid.
The square is formed by five buildings: the History Museum of Armenia, the Government of Armenia, the Central Post Office Building, the Marriott Armenia Hotel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Energy.
The oval part of the square is covered with amazingly beautiful mosaic paintings, which trace the motifs of the paintings of ancient Yerevan. On the tower of the Government House, facing the square, there is the main clock of the country with bells.
The stylistic unity of the square is manifested in the fact that all the buildings are made of tuff and basalt and faced in the same white and pink color scheme, which gives the square a rather elegant look.
In front of the Museum Complex are the famous "singing" fountains, illuminated at night with multi-colored light effects, and music controls the color, the intensity of the lighting and the pressure of the jets.
Nearby is a beautiful shady boulevard with many small fountains.

During the day, as is the case with central squares, it is quite noisy - cars, people, everyone is in a hurry, but in the evenings after sunset, the square changes dramatically: the lighting of the surrounding buildings turns on, the show of light and musical fountains begins, relaxed people wander around the square - this and mothers with prams, and young people, and older people. Calm, unobtrusive.

The main square of the capital of Armenia - Republic Square, during the daytime is the center of business activity. But in the evening, this place becomes cozy and inviting with the light of the evening lights, the sound of beautiful music and the sight of cheerful people walking by. To get here, you need to get to the metro station "Republic Square" (Hanrapetutyan hraparak), a two-minute walk from which is the main square. A favorite sight for residents and guests of Yerevan is the Singing Fountains.
