Big Cascade

Yerevan cascade, Yerevan cascade
Armenia, Yerevan
The big cascade was planned by the architect Tamanyan, according to whose projects Yerevan was built up. Initially, only one artificial waterfall-fountain was built on this site. But in the 70s, work began on a larger project, which was supposed to connect the lower part of the city with the upper one, and become a place of rest for citizens and tourists. The construction of the Cascade was suspended in 1988 due to the earthquake and the Karabakh conflict, but, thanks to the American philanthropist Gerard Cafesjian, the construction of the Yerevan Cascade was continued, and an art center was opened in it.
The attraction is a mixture of a park and buildings on a towering hill, from where you can go down to Tamanyan Street with large steps. Huge stairwells with fountains rise up the slope, and at the top you can see the 50-meter obelisk "Reborn Armenia".
An enchanting landscape opens up from the upper platforms, and the Cascade opens up to the Victory Park.

Most tourists, and the residents of Yerevan themselves, do not miss the opportunity to stroll along the Grand Cascade, sit on benches between stairwells and admire the fountains, magnificent views of the city and Ararat, and the higher it is, the more admirable it is. The cascade is a kind of decoration of the city with a very original architectural solution. It resembles a huge multi-tiered Babylonian pyramid, which, with the help of large stairs, connects the city center lying in the lowland with a residential area located on the hills.
