Petrela Castle

Petrela Castle, Petrela Castle, Calaja Petreles
Albania, Tirana
18 kilometers from Tirana, on a high, rocky hill, is the ancient Petrala Castle. It was built during the reign of Emperor Justinian. Despite numerous wars and earthquakes, the building has been well preserved to our times. The castle has a triangular shape and two observation towers. It is surrounded by a beautiful olive grove. The castle was used as part of the defense system of Kruja Castle.
During the battle of Skanderbeg against the Ottoman Empire, Skanderbeg's sister, Mamika Kastiroti, took command of the castle and gave fire signals from here.
Now Petrala Castle is a very attractive place for tourists. There is also a restaurant where you can try a variety of dishes of national Albanian cuisine.

This castle is a must visit if you come to Tirana. We heard a lot about it from friends before our trip to Albania. It was built in the century and then restored in the 15th century. The castle offers breathtaking views. This is a wonderful historical place. Nearby there is a restaurant where you can have a delicious meal.
