Museum of Islamic Civilization

Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization
UAE, Sharjah
The museum opened only in 2008, so it is not surprising that the latest technological advances are used in the design of the expositions. In addition to exhibits that directly represent Islam, such as old editions of the Koran and models of mosques, the museum has a collection of various ancient cultural objects - clothes, weapons, and ceramics. Of particular interest are mechanized models of various devices - an ancient mill or a skewer for frying meat, which clearly, in motion, show their device.

The museum contains a rare collection of Arabic manuscripts and the largest collection of coins in the Muslim world, including silver dinars and dirhams from the Abassid and Umayyad eras. Particularly impressive are the navigational instruments of the ancient Arab sailors and the unique "inverted" map of the world, compiled a thousand years ago by the Arab geographer Sharif Al-Idrizi. There is also a copy of the veil that covered the building of the Kaaba in Mecca.

Were with a friend in Sharzha in October. The city is the cultural capital of the UAE, which attracts many tourists from different countries. We really liked the colorful oriental bazaars of Sharzha, parks, gardens...This is a very green and beautiful city, where history and modernity are combined. The Museum of Islamic Civilization was especially impressive. A beautiful and informative museum with a rich collection of weapons, medical devices, dishes, coins. Many artifacts associated with the development of oriental culture.

The museum is large, two floors, four wings, several halls, a huge number of exhibits, some can be put into action with your own hands (which the children really liked), here is the history of the development of architecture, medicine, astronomy, and applied arts. Beautiful mother-of-pearl products, weapons, jewelry, handmade carpets and clothes, musical instruments and utensils. Video monitors. There is a souvenir shop. The fee for visiting the museum is symbolic - 5 derhams.

And this trend still does not attract many visitors. At the entrance, you write down in a notebook, and so we were 3 visitors at lunchtime! Beautiful exhibits, everything is very interesting) True, some things were on the shelves, high and it was inconvenient to look at, even with such normal growth.

An impressive building with a golden dome, decorated in Islamic tradition. The number of exhibits exceeds several thousand and they are all from different parts of the Arab world. While in the emirate of Sharjah, it is worth stopping by this museum, with interesting collections depicting the traditional way of life, the development of civilization in the region, and most of the religions. Really worth it. This is truly a great museum!
