Ras Al Khaimah National Museum
Museum of Ras Al Khaimah, Ras Al Khaimah Museum
UAE, Ras al-Khaimah
The fort, located behind the Police Headquarters, is an impressive part of the Old City, where twenty years ago was the home of the ruling family of Ras Al Khaimah. This fort, which also served as a reliable defense of Ras Al Khaimah, has been restored and now houses a museum. In the museum you can find a collection of archaeological and ethnological exhibits, including traditional household items, jewelry, valuable finds, the oldest of which dates back to the first millennium BC.
The museum building itself is also an architectural landmark - with its curved staircases, watchtowers and wind towers, terraces, battlements and a wide courtyard, which correspond to the basic principles of Arab fortified architecture that developed many centuries ago. All rooms are located around the perimeter of the yard. A traditional technique that is also characteristic of residential architecture. Now the courtyard is covered with a special vaulted structure, which allows protecting the museum exhibits from the effects of sand and the sun.
The most popular among museum visitors is the collection of things that once belonged to pirates: blades and daggers, cannons from robber ships, muskets, costumes allow you to imagine what these sea wolves looked like.
