Al Fahidi Fort and Dubai Museum

Al Fahidi Fort, Dubai Museum
UAE, Dubai
Fort al-Fahidi - a fortress in the center of the city. The first fortifications in this place of the city of Dubai were erected in 1799. Al Fahidi Fort in its current form was built near the coast of the Persian Gulf between Ali bin Talib and Al Fahidi Road in 1878 and is currently the oldest surviving architectural building in Dubai. In the past, al-Fahidi served both to protect the city from attacks and as a state prison.
The fortress is built of clay, coral and shell rock, fastened with lime, and has the shape of a square. Thick, high walls protect a large courtyard. The fortress has two towers - a higher, round shape, and located from the first in the opposite, diagonal direction - flatter and lower.
After the liberation of Dubai from the colonial power of Great Britain on December 2, 1971, the ruling Emir of Dubai, Sheikh Rashid ibn Said al-Maktoum, carried out restoration work in this, by that time, badly damaged fortress and ordered the opening of a museum in it. In 1987, after the threat of collapse arose in some places of the al-Fahidi fortress, the museum was placed in underground premises. Al Fahidi Fort is now known as the Dubai Museum.
The museum exhibits an exposition dedicated to the life and culture of Dubai in antiquity. Here you can also see antiques and items from Asia and Africa, the states with which Dubai has been actively trading. The museum presents an interesting collection of ancient oriental weapons and musical instruments. In addition, one of the original features is the presence of smells that help to imbue the atmosphere of bygone centuries even more. The museum has a courtyard formed by the defensive walls of the fort, where old cannons and boats are exhibited, as well as a traditional Arab hut built from palm branches.

Interesting history of the country before they became oil tycoons. There are many household items, there are many photographs representing life at that time. It is interesting to walk around the rooms, which as close as possible show the level and quality of life "at that time"
