National Library of Andorra
Biblioteca Nacional d'Andorra, Andorra National Library
Andorra, Andorra la Vella
The National Library of Andorra was founded on September 8, 1930 with the aim of providing book lending services for the people of Andorra. Initially, it was located in the Casa de la Val (headquarters of the General Council of Andorra). Its creation was the result of the initiative of the society of Andorran residents of Barcelona, as well as with the participation of various individuals, following the creation of other socio-cultural objects.
The new library was established in 1974. The collection of about 2500 volumes consisted mainly of copies of the Casa de la Val library and donations of Catalan books from various publishers, as well as works acquired by the Andorran General Council.
In 1986, after expanding the collection, the library moved to a building called Prada Casadet. In 1996, due to increasing volumes, a decision was made to restructure and unbundle services. The National Library of Andorra moved into a building called Casa Bauró, while the rest of the collection remained at Prada Casadet.
