Church of Santa Coloma
Esglesia de Santa Coloma d'Andorra, Santa Coloma, Santa Coloma Church
Andorra, Andorra la Vella
Not far from the capital of Andorra is the village of Santa Coloma, where the old church of the same name stands. It is a monument of pre-Roman culture. The church was founded in the IX-X centuries. From the outside, the building looks quite ascetic: during the construction of the church, gray stone was used and no decorations were used. At first glance, it can be more likely to be mistaken for a small fortress than for a holy monastery. On one side, a four-story bell tower with a round base and a conical roof adjoins the church.
The ceiling of the church is made of wood. At the top of the bell tower, built in the 12th century by the famous architect Lombard Bell, you can admire the wall paintings. Wooden sculptures of the Mother of God of Mercy have also been preserved here.
