I didn’t swim in the pool (I prefer the sea), but it is also present.
Among the shortcomings: rather slow internet and a dirty bath (I don’t understand what was wrong with the bathroom, maybe it wasn’t dirt, but features of uneven enamel, but even after the reception assured that the bath would be cleaned, the situation did not improve, as a result I used shower cubicle).

We rested on NG, though not in the hotel itself, but it is divided into 4 parts: the main building (hotel+beach+restaurants+pool), villas and suites and part 3 - for students (Campuses). the main building (hotel+beach+restaurants+pool), villas and suites and part 3 - for students (Campuses). We took a suite for 2 families near the resort. Room size 100 m2 (hall + kitchen + 2 bedrooms). The hotel is excellent, so briefly in order:
we liked the breakfasts (Euro-Asian style) but it doesn't smell of anise like in China. The location of the pool is right next to the suite, the beach (length 5-7 km) is 30-40 meters from the suite. The staff speaks English quite tolerably, is friendly, all requests are fulfilled immediately. left a tip of 5 ringit (50 rubles). Linen was changed every other day. There is a Russian girl Katya at the reception - all requests (including auto-taxi orders) can be made through her - she never refused, although we called several times late. The hotel visited a restaurant of Korean cuisine (main reception), Italian and near us, a common restaurant. Food in restaurants at the hotel is not cheap - from one person for 1.5-2000 rubles. Mostly in the evening we ate in restaurants in the city. (Whoever is interested I will write separately). much cheaper and tastier. We bought vodka in malls for a price (local 220-280, not local 560) and went to restaurants with vodka so as not to shock the local population and not torturing waiters (they don’t drink as much as we do) with shots. The local population is friendly, always ready to explain how and where to go. The city is clean, there is a problem with the toilets - they use water instead of paper and therefore the floors in the toilets are not completely dry. The city of Kota Kinabalu itself is not very big - I liked it. There is shopping (better in big malls) of course.
The hotel has a small nuance - it is a 40-minute drive from the city itself. The fare for a taxi is 800-500 rubles one way. The shuttle from the hotel (must be booked in advance) costs 240 one way. There are many taxis, you have to bargain. Holiday hotel - everything is calm and peaceful.
I have never seen such a beach strip. On January 1, we walked 500 meters along the beach and had a picnic with lamb kebabs (we bought a grill + meat + coals). At the reception, by the way, they give ice in a large bucket (20 liters) - there are no problems (we then carried this bucket on all excursions and constantly replenished it at the reception in the morning). We did not really like - that there was no NEW YEAR in the Russian sense - a table with dishes, alcohol until 3-4 am. And there was a buffet table in Eurostyle until 11-10. We didn't go - we staged an NG first in the city and then in the suite. - Everyone liked it very much. Yes, by the way, you do not need to buy adapters in the Russian Federation, everything can be obtained at the reception. Well, that's all. I recommend this hotel to everyone.

And it was a big mistake! The crowds of Chinese, who know how to fill the whole space with noise and lack of minimum tact, spoiled the impression, but this is not a hotel management problem, but just a huge minus. The hotel's problem lies in the usual unwillingness of the staff, they don't serve so badly in any country in Southeast Asia, where I was lucky enough to visit. Compared to other Southeast Asian countries, the prices here are not small, but the attitude is like in a regular eatery. the rooms are disgustingly cleaned (just a layer of dust, even on a lamp on the bedside table), bathroom accessories are practically not replenished, and when they left the bathrobes to change, they brought one, after asking to bring another one, they took the first one (only after contacting the Russian sales manager, Nadezhda, we were given bathrobes, but we had to take shower gels and shampoos ourselves during cleaning, and $ on the bed does not change anything. Separately, I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Nadezhda, without her help, the rest in this hotel would have been completely ruined. the girl tried to improve our stay as much as possible, either by calling the people responsible for solving the problem, or just by pleasant communication and advice on where to go for dinner, where to buy something.

While memories are fresh, I decided to write my review about this hotel. We decided to take Nexus Karambunai, because SHANGRI'LA was undergoing renovations during this period. With a heavy downpour from the airport, we reached the hotel, it was already late in the evening. At the reception they took a deposit of 200 dollars and even gave a memo in Russian, from which we learned about Nadia, the hotel manager, whom we subsequently contacted more than once. … More ▾ While memories are fresh, I decided to write my review about this hotel. Our room was on the second floor of one of the six two-story buildings. The room was very spacious, with high ceilings and old furniture. At first we did not understand why there might be negative reviews about this hotel, but the next day everything became clear. The next morning I was pleased with the singing of birds and the view from the balcony - a lake with a fountain. Then the negative - the restaurant, from which they were shocked, a crowd of Chinese in red T-shirts swept away everything, decided to wait until this "wave" passed and went to the beach, where again the same Chinese, lovers of being photographed in the pose of "swallows" against the backdrop of the sea. Later, everything became clear, in this hotel there are constant crowds of people - rallies, seminars, conferences take place, and it’s better not to wait until they look for a table for you for half an hour, go for breakfast after 9. The choice of food is not the best. There are several restaurants, for breakfast and dinner we chose a restaurant overlooking the sea, standing on the beach. The sea was not entirely pleasing - there were a lot of jellyfish and people were swimming with caution, although there is a solution from a jellyfish bite in a box on the beach, and then when the waves rose, the jellyfish disappeared. For several days in a row they took bicycles and rode along the paths of the hotel, as well as the golf courses that are located on the territory of the hotel, this pleasure costs 10 ringit per hour. We went by bus to the city several times, the fare is 24 ringit - 8 dollars per person round trip, the schedule can be found at the reception, and they are immediately recorded on the bus. It is better to get off in the city at the first stop - 1 Borneo, because there is a more civilized bargaining. center (albeit with fakes of all well-known firms) than at the next stop. The last bus leaves the terminus at seven o'clock. . It is better to buy alcohol in advance - in your duty free, because. to. here the prices are not encouraging. On the penultimate day we went on an excursion to the nat. park, took one of the excursions with great difficulty, there are very few Russian-speaking guides and found the guide Ira after 5 days. That's all, yes, there is also a spa center on the territory of the hotel, but I can’t tell anything about it, because I haven’t been.

If you take it with you to your room, it will stink in a couple of hours. You will either be hungry or suffer at night with stomach pains. Even in the club box, everything is of disgusting quality, rotten fruit, etc. Every day! The alternative is chocolates and chips from the hotel mini market or a trip to the city, which will take 40-50 minutes. You can swim in a small but nice pool with a pool bar in the water. Unless, of course, you do not disdain the neighborhood of Muslim women bathing in their sweat-smelling black robes in the heat, which are in abundance there : )

When arriving in Kuala Lumpur, money should be changed in the city at banks. Stayed at the Renaissance Hotel. The view from the room on the 20th floor of the Petronas Towers (88 floors) was impressive, but such rooms with a view must be specifically requested upon check-in. If you want to stand on the air bridge between the towers, you need to take a free ticket on the first floor of the towers before lunch (preferably earlier). … More ▾ When arriving in Kuala Lumpur, money should be changed in the city at banks. If you want to stand on the air bridge between the towers, you need to take a free ticket on the first floor of the towers before lunch (preferably earlier). Enjoyed dinner at the TV tower. An hour and a half of rotation (one circle) passed like 5 minutes, many were photographed. I do not recommend lunch on this day. Tickets here must be ordered in advance (a month in advance) through travel agents. The excursion to the new administrative capital of Malaysia, Putrajaya, was interesting. Here you must definitely take a boat ride on the local lake. An interesting Chinatown, which is a pedestrian zone. In Kuala Lumpur, it rained every afternoon every day and it often happens here, although April is not the rainy season. So an umbrella won't hurt.
In Borneo, I planned to climb to the top of Kota Kinabalu, but it turned out that climbing tourist groups are formed 2-3 months in advance. For those who come to Malaysia, I immediately propose to put up with the fact that the prices for excursions are too high here. The average price for an excursion (6-10 hours) for one person is 120-150 USD, in a group of 6 people - 70 USD. There are only 1-2 Russian guides in Borneo and it is not realistic to use them in excursions. Therefore, all tours are in English. From any hotel to go to the place of excursion 2-2.5 hours. You will not see what is in Thailand, but getting to know the originality of the local nature is better than lying endlessly on the beach. Especially good is a boat trip along the river flowing through the jungle, where on the shore you can observe in natural conditions the life of long-nosed monkeys, which are found only here. There are also other animals. Another excursion was to the tropical garden (2 hours drive). Here you will be shown various plants in 20 minutes. It seemed to me that there were also good specimens near the hotel. Then after another half an hour of driving you are offered an attraction. Climbing to a height of 500 m, followed by walking over the abyss along narrow bridges suspended on ropes. But it is here that you feel what the jungle is. In conclusion, local residents will show you the place where the largest flower in the world, the raflesia, grows for another 10 dollars. They find it in the impenetrable jungle specifically to show tourists and pave the way to it.
It is unlikely that anything can compare with the beauties of our Crimea, the Caucasus and other places, but there is something here that we do not have.
In the Nexus Hotel, the right wing consists of three five-story buildings, all rooms with sea views. I lived on the fifth floor of the second building, but the sea was hard to see because of the tall and not very attractive trees. The territory on this side is not very well maintained and is clearly inferior to the territories of the best hotels in Bali. The equipment in the room is quite old. At night I had to wake up from the noise of the refrigerator, but I solved this problem by placing slippers from the room under the legs of the refrigerator. The second problem was the non-working air conditioner temperature controller. Therefore, it was also difficult to sleep in the room at night due to the cold. I wrote to the reception three times in writing about this, all to no avail. But I had something to wear for the night, so this problem can be solved if you prepare for it. Upon further acquaintance, it turned out that the hotel is located in a rather picturesque place with a very long line of the beach. And the territory near the central building looks quite decent and is especially beautiful in the left wing of the hotel, where the villas are located. Therefore, it may be better to overpay 50-70 dollars a day, but live here on the 2nd floor overlooking a beautiful golf course or a tropical garden or ocean. But even here you can lose, as some windows in the villas of blocks 1 and 2 overlook the car park, and some side villas are located next to the air conditioners, which are constantly noisy. There are no problems with sunbeds by the pool and on the beach. There are no ebbs and jellyfish. There was no rain. You can play volleyball and futsal if the team gathers. You can go kayaking, horseback riding, night fishing, etc. Everywhere in Borneo they sell mosquito repellant for $10, but I almost never saw them even on excursions. They are, but very few. No one seemed to bite. They do not know our mosquitoes.
In architectural terms, the hotel looks solid, there are enough beautiful and cozy bars and restaurants in which music and singing are played until 22.30, then lights out. There are no Russians here. Only on the last day I met one family. Loved the oceanfront bar. The food here is delicious and inexpensive. Coffee here costs $2.5, a glass of frontera or cabernet (100 ml) $6.5, pasta $8. There is also such a dish here: three puff pastries with crab meat (there is a lot of meat), and rice cooked in a special way as a side dish. Everything is delicious. The large bar at the reception has an extensive menu of desserts (ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate, fruit, etc. ). For lovers, I recommend number 2 from this menu (here ice cream quality ice cream).
A comfortable bus departs from the hotel every two hours to Kota Kinabalu. The fare is $8 both ways. It goes non-stop for 45 minutes and carries only hotel guests. Shopping here is in many ways better than in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. T-shirts with short and long sleeves with all kinds of high quality patterns in a large assortment cost 4-5 dollars. Sports pants - $10. There are European brands. There is a large market for cheap pearls (no fakes) on the waterfront, according to our guide. From the hotel you can also take a shuttle bus or take a taxi to other hotels. I went to Shangrilu-Ria, there is a small nature reserve. For $20 you will be shown three orangutans and shown a film about them. Start of inspection at 14.00. Comparison of the two hotels is not in favor of Shangrila.
In the Nexus, a deposit of 500 dollars is required at the reception, but we managed to agree on 300. Such a deposit is due to the fact that the payment for the SPA procedures is made at the reception when leaving the hotel. I regret that I tried them on the last day. The SPA complex made a favorable impression. Contrast baths + thalassotherapy + small oil massage (1.5 hours in total) cost $100. Borneo massage (60 minutes) costs $60.
There are no TV programs in Russian here, but sports fans will not be bored. The English Football Premier League and the European Champions League were presented in full on sports channels. At 22:45 every day one of the last matches was broadcast.
In general, the hotel is quite worthy for a relaxing holiday and a healthy lifestyle.
