We are a family with two children (9 and 5 years old) tried to take a large room from the tour operator right away when booking a hotel, but nothing happened, because. 2 + 2 are accommodated only in a deluxe room with a size of 36 m2 with two beds, well, or take two separate rooms, which is not appropriate in our case. children are small. We were immediately determined to solve it on the spot. As a result, we paid extra $ 100 per night and stopped in a 2-room junior sow in the royal club. The room is great, huge, with a large seating area. One minus the closet in the bathroom (but this is in all rooms) and all things are a little damp, given the still rather damp weather we got into. Two TV sets with USB inputs, 2 DVDs, music center. Corona beer in the minibar. In general, the room will not be boring. In the morning and in the evening, cleaning and change of towels, chocolates on the bed, upon arrival, wine and fruit, beach towels are brought to the room. And last but not least, free internet! (everyone else has a fee and not cheap! ) There are also good discounts on laundry, SPA, imported wines, and a lot of other little things. But the most important advantage of the royal club is the private restaurant La Caretta! God, how tasty their chef cooks there, how cozy and cute it is! How beautifully all the dishes are made. Like in a small family French restaurant! We had breakfast there, sometimes lunch, and almost always dinner. We went to a la carte restaurants one by one (steakhouse and Italian), but our La Caretta is much better. True, you also need to sign up for dinner in it, but it's not difficult, the reservation of restaurants at the royal concierge, which is located here a stone's throw away. In general, the royal club is very small and cozy; only two villas (20 and 21), a small jacuzzi pool, a house where the concierge sits and our small restaurant. My husband said that he feels like visiting Fedel Castro's dacha. All employees know you by name, everyone knows what you drink, what kind of juice the children have, what table you like to sit at. It is very nice! We did not regret a bit that we paid this 1000 $, the pleasure we got is worth much more! By the way, the supplement for the deluxe room of the royal club costs $30 per person per night, and the junior suite is $50 per person, but the room is really much bigger and cooler!
The territory is really very green, tropical and very lively. Jaguanas are everywhere, all kinds of birds, toads are croaking, crabs are sitting under the trees and "MUCHO MOSKITOS". Although they process the territory with acrid smoke, they don’t get smaller from this. Again, maybe we were so lucky with this lingering rain and they just bred. In short, take mosquito spray with you, it will not be superfluous.
The sea, as I wrote, was very spoiled due to rains and storms and cleared up only on the 8th day of our vacation, it became really transparent and calm. Near the shore there are a lot of fish, both small and large, stingrays sway at the bottom, a thick green moray eel lives on the right near the pier under a stone, some kind of tame barracuda swims near the buoys. In general, the sea is interesting. Snorkeling equipment is provided free of charge (masks, fins, vests). Catamarans, kayaks, surfs are also free. For snorkeling you can float on the reef, it costs $30 per person, diving $75. There are turtles, sharks, stingrays and all sorts of fish.
From Excursions we took a jeep tour of the island. We drove ourselves, saw the Mayan ruins, visited the tequila factory, snorkeling, lunch, the beaches of the east coast (they swam there), watched the crocodiles and climbed the lighthouse, from which it’s just a superb view of the coast. Then we returned to the hotel. Of course, you can rent a car, it costs $70-80 rent, plus $25 insurance, plus a deposit of your credit card details, and then you have to fill up the car later. In general, the children and I did not risk it and went on an excursion. We had a good ride, interesting and safe.
We didn't go for walks in the city. I can't say anything about him. When we left, we paid $18 for a taxi to the ferry. The ferry costs 316 pesos ($ 26-28) back and forth, 180 pesos ($ 15) per child.
On the 5th day it brightened a little and everyone rushed to the beach! Naturally, everyone was so eager to warm up that they forgot about the increased solar activity, and, as a result, red-faced and red-armed people at dinner. And in the evening it rains again! On the 6th in the morning it shed and it seems that everything is so far. The weather is cloudy but dry. But mosquitoes! It's not mosquitoes, it's vampire monsters!! ! We have two mosquito sprays with us, but they don't care! They seem to have bred so much during this rainy week and they are so hungry that even a myriad of toads cannot cope with them !!! ! . .
Yesterday and today it is already sunny, but still very humid. Life in the hotel is gradually getting better. Pool bars and a restaurant on the beach have started working, sleepy animators have crawled out and are trying to lure people into playing volleyball or water polo. Haven't seen anything interesting yet. Evening shows are already the third evening on the site near the lobby (the first was based on the Mayan and Aztec empires, colorful and interesting. And yesterday and today it’s like a Caribbean night, some kind of amateur performance). The sea is clearing up slowly, but not like in the pictures in the descriptions of the hotel. A lot of sea grass drove to the shore and the turbidity is strong, as in Azov. But today we went to the reef with masks, snorkels, of course the water there is blue and clear, well, just super! We saw two turtles, a large barracuda (they are dangerous, do not pull your hands towards them), starfish, and all sorts of small reef fish. The kids love it and so do we....
We still have four whole days, so much to see! So far my impressions are, and then I will write more.....
The hotel is small, very clean and comfortable. Shady paths, mangroves under a wooden bridge on the way to the beach with various animals: turtles, crocodile, herons...
I did not like the constant excitement and muddy water on the mainland coast, this is not here. The beaches on the island can be sandy (our hotel) and coral (neighboring Iberostar), but the sea is clean everywhere and due to the fact that the coast "looks" at the continent, it is almost always calm. The excitement was one day, the water was muddy two, this is for 14 days of being there.
The hotel staff is friendly, but does not speak Russian at all, even hello.
The food is good, tasty and varied if you come for a week. We were two and noticed that the menu is repeated, but still did not have time to get bored.
Unlike Egypt, I did not look forward to dinner. Breaks between meals 1.5 hours.
Rooms, beds, bathrooms are large - designed for American size, as well as sockets by the way, so adapters are needed. However, there they can be bought in the only town on the island in a local supermarket.
From the hotel to the city $18 taxi.
Went on regular excursions on the mainland. You can get to the mainland by ferry, which runs every hour, sometimes every two hours (for example, 20:00.22:00, and also at lunchtime). The journey takes 45 minutes, which is quite acceptable, and costs about $13 per person one way. If you go on a tour you have to go on a 7-hour ferry.
If you rent a car, you can travel around the entire island. A lot of impressions. In general, we are very pleased with the rest both on the island and in the hotel. The only drawback is that the hotel smells bad in the mornings due to sewage watering the plants, but that's not a big deal.
Anyway, we're used to it. The day began to look like another and the thought of returning home appeared somewhere on the 12th day. So 14 days, considering such a long flight, is just right.
