I had BB, but in the evening I ate at the restaurant at the hotel, by the way, quite inexpensively. Prices are not sky-high as usual in hotels, but normal, at the city level. The beach (sandy) is located close to the hotel and not all hotels in Malta can boast such an advantageous neighborhood. If you want to scuba dive, ride a catamaran, jet ski - please, you don’t have to go far, again, everything is on site. Well, if you decide to break away at a discotheque, the street where the doors of nightclubs were friendly opened is very close - you won’t even have to spend money on a taxi in the morning. However, loud music does not annoy the hotel guests, yes, sitting on the balcony overlooking the sea, you can hear it, but not to such an extent that it interferes with rest.
When choosing a hotel where you are going to spend your holidays, you, like me, probably expect the best value for money. Perhaps the hotel occupies one of the best locations (quite a quiet place, but everything is close). According to this parameter, it can be compared with the Westin Dragonara, which also has a large territory and access to the sea. Or with Intercontinental, which, although it does not have such a territory, reserves part of the city beach for its guests. But not with Le Meridien which is located in a noisy part of the city, in the center of St. Julians on a hill. And where the tourists go to sunbathe and swim, I'll never know! So you compare the prices and you will understand that you will not find a better holiday for the money! Good luck and enjoy your holiday in Malta!
I will be brief, because words cannot describe everything, and if it does, it will simply take a lot of time. I read the comments of the rest - I put 4+, if you do not take into account the negative reviews. Believe me friends - it doesn’t happen that everything is 10+, we are all people, and we pay exactly as much for our vacation - how much it costs.
I was in Malta that year, just at the end of August, what impressed me the most was the attitude of the staff to visitors.
My wife and I lived on the first floor, which, as already mentioned in previous comments, turns out to be the second (this is due to the fact that the hotel itself is located on a hill, and consists of two parts, one is garages, and above are rooms, and the second one turns out immediately to the floor above, starting from the reception, already in relation to the first one it turns out to the floor above) - so here you can really get a little confused at first, but these are pleasant little things.
As soon as we entered the room - of course, everything pleased, but as soon as I tried to get out onto the balcony, like a heavy smoker who saw an ashtray and an armchair on the balcony, I realized that this was not easy for me to do.
History 1.
We had a broken clasp on the window. And before our arrival it was simply closed. Considering that my knowledge of English, well, let's say - wished for the best, I collected all my knowledge (which I drew most from the Internet and a computer), tried to explain....for about 5 minutes they understood me. Thank God the window was opened, and I rushed. Smoked. By the way, who is going to Malta - PENALTY for smoking in the wrong place - 900 euros. So I didn't joke about it. Although I can reassure you at every stop, there are smoking bins near the shops - there are a lot of them, so I always found a place to smoke.
History 2.
The window was opened, but the clasp remained broken. And given the fact that our balcony was right next to the descent to the sea, and climbing it was not difficult - we found the only way to close it when we were absent during the day - twisting the chain with a teaspoon to stretch - it worked, but what's the catch. While we were away, and the room was cleaned during the day - they still took out this spoon every single day and returned it to its place - on the table near the teapot. By the way, I liked the kettle, but the coffee that they have for free - NO, by the way it was Nescafe. But I, as a prepared person, brought my own, and what’s interesting is also Nescafe, though Alta Rico - whoever hasn’t tried it - I recommend it - you should appreciate it.
What else did I like
We found a cafe - At the Friend, there is a lot of Russian-speaking people there. Then we learned a lot of ours (both Ukrainian and Russian girls got married there, plus there is an English language study program, and on the beach right next to our boarding house there are always crowds of our students).
So - At the Friend - the owner is a Russian woman. and the waiter (there was a boy Sergei) is also Russian. Here I relaxed and did not strain my convolutions remembering English words.
The local dish - RABBIT - not that I didn't like it at all, I probably just didn't see something special in it, and so - offset - but the sauce under which it was cooked - for all 5+++ - full credit.
We went on excursions around Malta and its islands. We didn’t hit the barracudas - it was stormy, and we were lucky, because those who did go came green and lethargic, but they fed the fish in the sea to the fullest.
Story 3
For one excursion we gathered - also in Malta - on a catamaran, this is the one that is flat, and one sail - in short, it can accommodate up to 30-40 people - but only everyone is sitting on the floor. We are out and waiting. By the time it's time to pick us up, we approach the girls at the reception, it turns out he came and looked, and went - he just forgot to ask us, or the girls - he was probably in a hurry. Well, in short - we are FORGOTTEN. But I can say the girls immediately organized another trip for us - FOR FREE, they just got to the city by bus, a good excursion, and plus they added us to another one - a cruise around Malta, for which tickets were no longer sold and made a small discount - as compensation. I want to say - I liked everything.
Nothing to regret.
On the contrary, there are a lot of impressions and only positive ones, despite all the pleasant little things that happened to us.
The staff is friendly, attentive and friendly, all questions addressed to the reception were resolved quickly, besides, maps, descriptions of bus routes, information on the necessary sights, etc. are issued at the first request. True, I speak English well, it seems that they do not know Russian there.
The contingent of vacationers is diverse, there are many Italians, Englishmen, Germans, there are Russians and others.
Breakfasts are like breakfasts, monotonous, but edible, it is especially pleasant to sit on the terrace overlooking the sea. We didn’t eat anything else in the hotel restaurants, I can’t rate it. It is more interesting to eat in the city, although they cook differently, and the local cuisine did not surprise me with special masterpieces. True, the portions are large, for a woman for lunch one salad is enough, usually they bring it in a bowl : )
The room is bright, pleasant, with air conditioning, TV, hairdryer, kettle with tea and coffee and mini-bar. There were also bathrobes, one of them was old and ragged, but on the very first day it was replaced with a normal one (a note from the maid and 1 euro solved the issue instantly). Cleaned normally, towels were changed when we put them on the floor... By the way, from useful - a rope for drying clothes in the bathroom, because. nothing can be hung on the balcony. Although it dries poorly compared to the street... The room has a rather spacious balcony overlooking the bay - beauty.
The hotel has a common territory with the already mentioned San Gorg 5 *, 4 (it seems) pools, many sunbeds, somewhere there was definitely a place, going down the stairs from stone slabs into the sea, some sports grounds, but I didn’t study the territory itself well . We swam in the pool a couple of times, took hotel beach towels on the card, and that's it.
What I liked the most was the location of the hotel. Firstly, 100 meters away is the city sandy beach, which is a rarity in Malta. In this part of the island (St. Julians Sliema), all the beaches are stone, this one, as far as I know, is the only one. At 9-10 in the morning it was still empty, but by 12 it was almost full. There is also a rental of catamarans, boats and other water activities. The InterContinental Hotel has its own area on this beach, but the hotel itself is located in a noisy and busy place, discos are noisy around at night, besides, there is construction going on around it now, 3 cranes are stuck, noise, dust... I was very glad that I didn’t choose Intercontinental, and this year I don’t recommend going there, and then only for lovers of nightlife.
Continuing about the Marina, the second plus is the proximity of Pachvil, the center of Malta's nightlife. Walk 10-15 minutes, but the noise does not reach the hotel. The third plus is that there is a bus stop to Valletta next to the hotel, it runs every half an hour. If you want to travel around Malta on your own and a lot, it will be convenient for you from here, just find another stop on the road behind the Intercontinental (the reception will give you a diagram), where there are already 6 buses running in different directions, for example, a direct bus to Mdina. On the way there is a village of Ta-Ali craftsmen, where prices for local products are much lower. For example, silver earrings bought there for 16 euros, I saw in Valletta for 37.
In general, there are a lot of interesting things in Malta, for which it is worth going there, and the sea and the beach are just a nice addition. I recommend buying a guidebook in advance, and you will be provided with a week of rest full of interesting trips.
