The hotel is located in Waikkal on the coast of Sri Lanka. The hotel is part of the Serendibleisure group, the hotel complex is conditionally divided into 2 parts (each with its own pool): one is calm, remote from the noise, the second is more lively, with animation and music. Thanks to this, the hotel is perfect for both lovers of solitude, families with children and active tourists.More →

Cool live music every night in the lobby. They played water and regular volleyball every day. The territory is well guarded, traders and intruders were not allowed on the territory. Large "super" pool.
PS When we saw that we are waiting for a transfer to the plane - fed for free in the restaurant. Everything is great!

It is quite calm, cozy, there are many families with small children, apparently because it is not far from the airport, but at the same time, there is almost no animation for children. It is good to relax here, relaxing by the ocean. An ocean with waves, why people come here with children is not at all clear. But the water in the ocean is very warm. Comfortable. Can't swim. Except splashing in the water. Municipal beach, sunbeds on site. But locals can come to the beach and start selling you their junk or excursions, but the security will not let them into the hotel. The sand is rich yellow.
The rooms are cleaned daily, there is a mini bar but for a fee, the food is good, a lot of desserts. I have a sweet tooth! We did not order all inclusive, so as not to get fat, we took three meals a day, without alcohol.

Everything is on the level, the plane is not big, cozy, the food is good, alcohol, juices! Flight 5 hours, landing in the UAE, an hour on the plane! and 5 more hours! To the hotel 30-40 minutes, Negombo, Waikal area. The territory is huge, green, the pool is very large. Arrived at 9:00, checked in at 13:00. All rooms have an ocean view! 1st, 2nd, 3rd floors - no higher! Sun loungers are all by the large pool, there is also a bar, music, animation! There is also a small pool, there is also a bar, massage is nearby, it is quiet and peaceful there! Massage in the hotel is 2 times more expensive than outside! For an hour with oils - 35 dollars. Weather + 30! There were rains in the evenings, humidity! The ocean is warm with waves, you can swim and it's very interesting to jump on the waves! We took breakfast and dinner, everything was enough, everything is very tasty and varied, a lot of pastries, fruits. There is an excursion and rest program, but first we rested and went on a 2-day excursion: Colombo (elephant nursery, spice garden, tea plantations and tea factory, wood workshop) and Sigiriya (food temple, mountain of 1200 steps) you can take another day and drive to the old city, but that was enough for us! The cost is 170 dollars. per person. This includes an overnight stay at a hotel with dinner and breakfast, as well as an entrance to museums and temples. The country is interesting, the people are very friendly, the attitude towards tourists is good. The difference with GOA: greener, cleaner, more civilized! They brought: remedies from traditional medicine, spices, red rum, coconut oil, a souvenir from the country, a magnet and, of course, different types of TEA!
Impressions are good, the tan is excellent! Rest calm, relax! Bad: crows cawing, there are really a lot of them on the territory of the hotel, small ants and mosquitoes in the room. On the territory of hungry skinny cats and dogs. It was a pity - fed! Have a good choice, pleasant impressions from the country, Health!

To be more specific. . .
Upon entering the hotel, you are greeted by a spacious lobby and hall overlooking a tropical garden, small lawns and partly the ocean, with small pools with fish, a hall without walls, under cover, coolness is provided by fans, which turned out to be very comfortable. Clean, furniture is new, not dirty.
As for the rooms, the hotel has three types of rooms: in the main building - deluxe and suites (more spacious), as well as small bungalows a few lines from the ocean.
We lived in the so-called deluxe. Of course, they have nothing to do with luxury, in the usual sense of the word, this is a standard, rather spacious room with a balcony, the furniture is not new, but not very “shabby”, the linen is clean, there is a refrigerator in the room, a safe, a tea set (kettle, cups , tea, coffee, cream, daily bottled water), TV, DVD player, fan and central air conditioning. The bathroom is normal, not very, but not very scary, the towels are clean.
At first we lived on the first (zero) floor, without a balcony, with access to the lawn from the room, the room smelled of dampness.
Then we were moved to the 3rd floor (2 - if you count "in English"), a better room and bathroom, overlooking the sea. Apparently the level of repair in different rooms is different...
The territory is quite large, very green and clean, right on the ocean, near the hotel there is a beach with a wide coastline, clean, with a convenient entrance. The remarks of other tourists that there is no beach as such are not entirely clear. The ocean is an extraordinary element and power. The waves are not high, but very addictive. We enjoyed jumping on the waves.
Food: we were satisfied! We had NV. Breakfasts are standard European, quite plentiful, but monotonous; dinners - varied, a large selection of dishes, both European cuisine and local (very spicy), Thai, Chinese, etc. , everything is quite tasty. There was always a choice of fruits (delicious pineapples, different varieties of bananas, papaya, guava, jack fruit, and some others, until I even found out what they are called : ), fresh juices were not served in the restaurant.
I recommend buying all-inclusive, because outside the hotel there is only one rundown / dirty cafe (we ate a couple of times, edible, did not get poisoned, but not much fun), you can also buy lunch or snacks at the hotel, but this is not a cheap pleasure.
The staff is helpful and friendly, except for the “receptionist” - they don’t really strain to help guests. They don’t speak Russian, everyone knows English. The main contingent of guests - the British, French, Germans, few Russians, we were the only ones from Ukraine, which, by the way, is very convenient when traveling on excursions - we get an individual tour.
The hotel is the only one on the coast, a 30-minute drive from the airport, planes sometimes fly overhead, but it's not annoying.
Outside the hotel there is a wilderness, a couple of stalls with sevens, there are no fruit stalls, you can only find coconuts.
Summing up, I can say that we were satisfied with the hotel and the rest in general.
Huh)) seems to have described everything ! !

The distance is short, but the roads in the country are broken, so you can’t drive fast.
The hotel is located in a real jungle - there is practically nothing around the hotel - a couple of restaurants, souvenir shops and a river, greenery everywhere.

The territory is quite large, it is believed that the pool at the Dolphin is the largest on the entire island of Sri Lanka.
The depth of the large pool is from 30 cm, where children swim up to 2.4 meters. The hotel has 2 pools in total.
A very important nuance - there were enough sunbeds and rugs around the pool for everyone!
The coastline stretches along the entire hotel, the sea is restless for those who cannot swim it is better not to enter,
if you have minimal skills, then you get used to the nature of the sea and the water starts to play with you, as it were, throwing it to the sides.
The sea itself is cloudy in water glasses you can not see anything. Reminds the sea of Antalya and Pattaya.
The territory of the hotel is well-groomed palm trees, flowers, plants, a lot of greenery, colored fish swim in small ponds,
exotic birds fly, live squirrels run through the trees!

You can live in rooms in 3-storey buildings or hotel bungalow houses.
At first I was settled in such a room on the 2nd floor of the building facing the backyard.
It was hard to sleep at about 7 in the morning, the water pump in the backyard turned on and began to buzz.
after 2 days I gave money to the reception and moved to a bungalow located in the first row 20 meters from the sea.
I was with friends in the rooms of the building whose windows are facing the sea, there are no such problems.
Bungalows are built in chains of 5-6 rows from the sea.
All rooms are cleaned every day, have a TV, electric kettle, hair dryer, working sockets.
However, the rooms look boring in a spartan way, especially in the buildings.
This is probably the only negative of the hotel. Although I really liked the bungalow.
In 2010, the owners of the hotel began to slowly refurbish the old rooms, there are ready-made bungalows with a modern interior.

The food is good and plentiful, the food is really very diverse on the tables, both European and local cuisine are present.
Vacationers are about 20% British, 40% Germans and Austrians, 20% Poles, 15% French and Spaniards, about 5% Russians.
There were no Italians in the hotel, so it was quite quiet and calm.
There are all age categories from parents with children to youth.

The animation of the hotel tried: at 11:30 minigolf game, 12:00 water volleyball, 12:30 bocha,
not every day at 16:30 archery. At 22:00 evening performance.
The days passed quickly and interestingly enough. The staff is quite friendly.

On the west coast, this beach is the best (all the rest are outright garbage).
The main plus of the hotel is the wonderful food and good local beer. The staff is responsive.
Summary: for the money you can find something much more interesting

The hotel is located 10 km from Negombo, there is no infrastructure around (only 1 nearby restaurant and 2-3 souvenir shops). The whole group of Russians from our flight was immediately settled in a bungalow, and we too. Although the voucher indicated that we paid for the stay in the Deluxe Room. We didn’t like the bungalow at all - it’s dark, cramped, ants (a lot) and some other insects crawl on the furniture. We needed an extra bed for a child, but there is nowhere to put it in the bungalow. I had to immediately go to the reception to sort things out. After that, after 20 minutes, we were moved to the main building, where those same deluxes are located. Those who did not go to swear at the reception remained to live in bungalows. Deluxe - a spacious room, two very wide beds pushed together, and they brought us extra. a bed for a child - so we got a five-bed, probably a bed, very spacious. Balcony, two tables, 3 chairs, TV, DVD player, wardrobe, air conditioning, fan. There is no refrigerator, mini-bar or safe. Safe at the reception for a fee. Bathroom - a large room, normal plumbing, soap, shampoo, shower caps. True, we had to call a local plumber to clean the faucet above the sink for us, because the water flowed without pressure, it was clearly clogged. Everything was done quickly, the faucet was cleaned and we were finally left to rest A day before our departure home, after a long tropical downpour, a leak formed on the ceiling in our room. I woke up at night from the fact that water was pouring on top of me. I had to move the beds. Since we were supposed to fly away the next day, we did not make a fuss; I somehow imagined how the sincere staff would begin to groan and gasp, and then move us with all our belongings to another room, or begin to repair the roof and ceiling and carry dirt and mess and stomp around in our room all day - and we decided not to be indignant and calmly survive until departure. Fortunately, by morning the rain had stopped and the ceiling was no longer leaking. On the same night, there was a hurricane wind that knocked the TV antenna off the roof and ripped off the tiles in places. . In general, the weather in the last 3 days of our stay was very unstable, there were many showers, strong winds, but still very warm and humid. It's good that in recent days we went on an excursion and just went to buy souvenirs ourselves - otherwise there would be absolutely nothing to do in such non-beach weather. As for food - very good, a lot of different dishes, everything is fresh, we have never been poisoned by anything. Separately, a table with local spicy dishes (they are in clay pots). All other dishes are not spicy, for European taste. Fruits in large quantities in the morning and evening (we had half board) - bananas, pineapples, papaya, passion fruit. Pineapples were added to almost all dishes, for example, chicken stew and meat with gravy, white cabbage salad. In general, now we won’t want pineapples for a long time The hotel staff is very friendly, caring, smiling. They speak English to some extent, they try very hard to speak Russian, remember the words, repeat after us. They greet each other, ask how things are going, how we are resting. Universal adoration for children: they kiss, pamper, give home-made toys from palm leaves. Animation team - 2 girls and 5 boys of student age, local. They try their best to entertain vacationers: aqua aerobics, volleyball, golf, in the evening a theatrical performance with dressing up, songs, dances. Of course, all this is at the level of student amateur performance, but you can watch it. Every evening, two cleaners come to the room with a basket filled with mosquito repellents and flowers. This fun is called Evening Service. They hand out plates for fumigators, spray them with air freshener or mosquito spray, give everyone a flower, smile, ask how you are doing, if mosquitoes get us. You can see in the eyes that they want money Sometimes you can give them 2-3 rupees - this is enough to keep your room always clean and bed linen and towels changed regularly. Drinking water (3-4 bottles), tea, coffee, sugar, cream in bags are brought to the room daily - it's all free. There are cups, glasses, an electric kettle. The pool at the hotel is huge, there are places with great depth, the paddling pool is also very large. Sunbeds around the pool. Sometimes, when we came to sunbathe late, we did not have enough sun umbrellas, and there are always plenty of sunbeds. Beach towels - free of charge. The advantage of the hotel is that there are breakwaters that cut off large waves and form an artificial bay. On the left side of the beach, closer to one of the breakwaters, the surf is not strong, you can swim. On the right side, the waves are higher, but still moderate. The sea is not transparent, there is a lot of sand, but it is very warm. On weekends, the local population comes to the hotel. Over the weekend, we saw one local wedding and one British wedding (or Germans, who knows). They brought a local priest to register the marriage, a crowd of singers and musicians in national costumes and an elephant in a painted horse blanket. It was picturesque On Friday evening, the locals lit a fire on the beach and threw firecrackers there (apparently, some kind of Sri Lankan wedding custom, such as our bride price). All night the invited musicians drummed and sang songs, so we were lucky that the windows of our room did not overlook the pool or the beach and we slept peacefully. A disco is held at the hotel several times a week, and if you do not plan to participate in it, then do not stay in rooms overlooking the pool - you will not be able to sleep. Vacationers-Sri Lankans behave decently, do not make noise (even children), do not stick to Europeans, there are no noticeable drunks among them. Of the living creatures on the territory of the hotel, chipmunks already mentioned in many reviews, medium-sized lizards and small, yellow-billed birds similar to starlings and crows roam. We lived on the 3rd floor, so the crows did not bother us, but they steal food from the tables on the verandas from the inhabitants of the first floor and drink everything that is left unattended from the glasses. Now about excursions: the more people gather for each excursion, the cheaper it will cost you, because the total cost of the bus and guide services is paid. There is no fixed price per person. The travel agency will offer you a ride in Kandy (one-day excursion, 3 hours drive one way), Kandy-Sigiriya excursion is also organized (two-day, overnight), a new excursion in Galle (one-day) and if you took any of the excursions, then you will be offered Free tour of Colombo We went to Kandy and, accordingly, to Colombo. What can I say... These events are held solely to involve naive tourists in the maelstrom of frantic shopping. The only cultural value that was offered to us for inspection as part of this excursion was the Temple of the Tooth Relic, to which we were brought up by 6 pm (and the tour began at 6.30 am). Other points of visit: spice garden, tea factory, jewelry center, fabric store. Yes, there is also an elephant nursery - there you will be shown how 30-40 elephants with elephant calves trample on a vast plain at the same time - and that’s all I only had strong impressions from the botanical garden in Kandy: a huge territory, unusual trees and plants, a greenhouse with orchids. An excursion to Colombo is only shopping, which will continue until late in the evening. Souvenirs, teas, clothes, booze, spices, leather bags with elephants, beads and essential oils will be much cheaper to buy in Negombo. Take a taxi or tuk-tuk for 500 rupees and go to the center of Negombo - there is a huge, incredibly dirty and lively shopping district (there are many shops and a clothing market reminiscent of our Cherkizon). Bargaining should be tough, for example, the price of a souvenir T-shirt with elephants should not exceed 2-3 dollars (200-300 rupees). A treasure trove of reasonably priced teas, essential oils and spices are the local supermarkets Tushara and Good Food (Tushara is even cheaper, a 20-minute tuk-tuk ride from the hotel). On the beach, the locals will offer you to go fishing on a motorboat, an empty undertaking - during our stay, no one managed to catch the promised barracudas, and indeed at least see some fish. You can also negotiate with the locals about a motorboat ride along the Grand Canal (it flows right outside the hotel gates - green opaque water with plastic bags floating on it, palm leaves, etc. . ) The local beer Lion is nothing like that, you can drink it, its aftertaste resembles fermented unpasteurized Zhiguli  The local rum is tasteless and your head aches from it the next day. We did not try the local coconut vodka, but they say nothing, you can drink it. Separate sincere "thank you" to Aeroflot airlines for delaying the return flight to Moscow for 2 hours, for landing at Sheremetyevo-2 (instead of the promised Sheremetyevo-S), for marinating passengers on the plane for 40 minutes with the air conditioner turned off after landing and a complete stop aircraft, for food poisoning with all the ensuing consequences from all places, which I received after eating their "pancake-omelette" and "chicken fish", for the complete lack of information for those meeting at Sheremetyevo-S that our flight would land at other terminal. And I want to say a real thank you to the travel company "Maldiviana", our guide Natalya - a very responsive, caring, friendly and obligatory person.

Dear fellow travelers! Who was in this hotel this year, respond. I read a lot of information, but very scarce reviews about this hotel. Here I sit in thought, maybe they slipped me a "shitty" hotel, at a price of $ 4,700 for two, so I don’t want to be disappointed!

We are going to visit the wonderful country of Sri Lanka in November, but there are fears that I won’t be able to explain myself or solve any problem that has arisen, my level of English remained at the level of the school curriculum, and then only a set of individual common phrases, I used to visit countries more focused on Russians. What advice can you give, is there any staff at this hotel who understands Russian even a little, not taking into account tour guides, as usual they are not found in the hotel?

How much does a taxi cost in Sri Lanka. For what cost can you negotiate if you go from Negombo, for example, to Kalutara, Hikkudawa. And, if you want to ride around Colombo (see the sights, make purchases) - how to negotiate. What national dishes can you try and what is the price range???
