This hotel, although recently in the field of view of tourists looking for a place to relax on the coast on the principle of "price-quality", has already found its fans.
Our company of 10 people was unanimous in their opinion: it is pleasant to live, have a good rest, there is where to go in search of impressions. Because the south of the island is the magical beauty of the bay, the azure waters of the Indian, palm trees to the skies and the sound of the ocean. At the same time, the hotel has a warm welcome, good breakfasts, surprisingly creative dinners (we were served from the menu, but we didn’t miss the buffet - the portions are rather big, they cooked deliciously and with imagination), and 2 bays around the hotel, which stands on the cape, - great place for swimming.
In the morning, splashing in the foamy waves in the bay to the right of the hotel (the beach is a feast for the eyes), and in the afternoon - swimming in the bay on the left and - if you wish - diving in a mask and snorkel.
The project itself deserves special attention: the architectural brainchild of designer Valentin Gunasekar managed to get into the textbooks of modern architecture, and hotel guests are happy with spacious rooms, each of which looks at the ocean.
A place where - without cunning! - want to go back.

In our recent info tour of Sri Lanka, after getting acquainted with the antiquities, gardens and reserves inside the island, the route took us to the south coast, to Tangalle Bay (from there to Antarctica itself - only the ocean and not a centimeter of land). In our recent info tour of Sri Lanka, after getting acquainted with the antiquities, gardens and reserves inside the island, the route took us to the south coast, to Tangalle Bay (from there to Antarctica itself - only the ocean and not a centimeter of land).
Today, rarely anyone gets there for a beach holiday - the transfer to the airport turns out to be too long. However, already in October 2011, the 1st stage of the Colombo-Matara expressway will be put into operation, and it will be possible to get to Galle in 1.5 hours. And from there - to Tangalle, where we were sheltered for the night by the original hotel in the form of a snow-white ship moored in the bay.
The building itself was erected here in the 70s of the last century. Its author is the famous Sri Lankan architect Valentine Gunasekara, who now lives in the United States. This project was recognized as one of the most interesting hotels in Asia of the 20th century.
However, in the late 90s it looked "forgotten and tired", and only at the beginning of 2011 specialists from the Jetwing hotel group took up its revival.
Today, all 44 ocean-facing cabins located along the deck floors have been renovated and decorated in a minimalist style, as the author of the project once saw.
Picturesque views of the bay from the terrace of each room, spacious rooms, early morning swims in the spectacular pool on the bow of the hotel-ship, mouth-watering home-style cuisine and a warm welcome in the form of a barbecue party, and in the final - a cake in honor of the birthday of one of participants of the info tour - this is how our short stop over in Tangalle Bay remained in my memory.
To whom to recommend?
According to the unanimous opinion of a group of managers, this hotel can be considered as a good option for 3 * category accommodation, especially for young people, families with children over 5 years old, who choose a vacation on the principle of "price-quality".
The hotel is a good choice for relaxing by the ocean after a multi-day sightseeing tour passing through the high mountain resort of Nuwara Eliya, as well as for those who intend to explore the south of the island, based in one hotel.
