In the winter we were in Beruwala and in August we decided to rest again in Lanka, this time we flew with air arabia. The flight was somehow routine: we started on time from Boryspil and after 12 hours with a transfer in Sharjah successfully landed in Bandaranaike (I was especially pleased that there were no delays in departure on this flight, both to Lanka and then home. ) Visas were processed at the airport literally immediately and the border, no queues, and after 10 minutes they greeted the guide of the meeting company Exotic Holidays. Immediately, in the arrivals hall, they changed $ for rupees: the rate was 128.75, replenished accounts on SIM cards purchased on the last trip, plunged into a minivan ( only we went to the east coast) and went on an 8-hour trip across the entire island.
I want to dwell in more detail on the reasons for choosing the UGA BAY 5 * hotel. Somehow little information was found about it on the net, except that it is new and located far from the airport : ). In any case, on this resource I have not found anything concrete about the weather in Passikuda in August, the waves in the ocean at this time, the infrastructure around the hotel, and so on and so forth. Got curious : )
The road to the hotel was not easy, after a long flight for another 8 hours, driving along the Sri Lankan highways is still a pleasure... but everything ends when it does. Upon arrival, we were joyfully greeted by the hotel staff, treated to a wonderful fresh and literally 5 minutes later (the design went surprisingly quickly) we were escorted to the room. I must say that the entire hotel consists of 10 two-story bungalows and a central building, each cottage has 4 spacious rooms and 3 or 4 more in the central building. All houses are built next to the ocean and located in such a way that the windows of the rooms overlook the beach. The hotel area is covered with well-groomed lawns, many palm trees, a fairly large and comfortable pool, in a word - beauty. The beach itself deserves a separate story - clean (very clean coral sand), the depth gradually and very smoothly increases from the coast and is approximately 2-2.5 at the buoys meters, at low tide and even less. The Uga lagoon itself cuts into the shore with an arc of about 2 kilometers and has a remarkable natural feature: both ends of the arc on the left and right are protected from the open ocean by reefs and there are no waves at all in the lagoon itself. For the entire stay at the hotel , even when there was wind, the maximum wave in the lagoon was 30-40 cm....I can’t even believe that this is an ocean. I remembered the beaches of Beruwala and Bentotta - there were days when it was not possible to swim properly because of the waves. Water in the bay Uga is clean and transparent, especially in the morning, some kind of emerald-turquoise in color. In the morning, the ocean looks fabulous in general - an absolutely calm, almost mirror-like surface of this color of water, just asks for some kind of commercial : )

For those who have already been to Lanka - there are no beach fights, merchants, touts, local residents and other irritants on the beach !!!! ! It's hard to believe, but it's true... the sun loungers on the beach are located in such a way that the inhabitants of the hotel (20-25 people), most of whom for some reason prefer to lie by the pool, absolutely do not interfere with each other... quite often in the morning and before lunch we were completely alone on the beach... absolute silence was broken only by birds and the rustle of palm leaves...
A room in Uga - perhaps it was the best room of all our trips to Southeast Asia - spacious, comfortable, good furniture, new and powerful air conditioning, everything you need (robes, slippers), etc. Daily cleaning in the room was carried out by the staff very carefully, with the obligatory change of bed linen, towels, replenishment of the bar, in the evenings additional room cleaning was also offered and, as a good tradition of the hotel, an evening visit by the manager asking if we need something? are we all right? and how can the hotel staff help us? Such a sincere display of concern for the guests of the hotel is very pleasing.
Kitchen - in a nutshell, perhaps you can’t tell... let's start with the fact that a real CHEF rules in the kitchen. And this became clear on the very first evening after the first dinner and studying the menu... varied, tasty, interesting - almost the author's cuisine... breakfasts were always represented by an abundance and variety of products absolutely unusual for these places... meat, fish, vegetables, a sea of fruits, wonderful pastries, fresh juices, yogurts, mousses and more. Lunches and dinners are generally unbeatable. To be honest, we did not expect (based on past travel experience in Lanka and India) this.
Regarding excursions, trips and other outings: all issues were resolved at the reception, where you can order a car or tuk-tuk for a trip, as well as get advice on where to go and what to see.
The infrastructure around the hotel... is completely absent : ) that is, there really is nothing around. To the left of Uga is the same small hotel Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa, to the right in the distance is the Amethyst Hotel and even further (about a kilometer from Uga), at the end of the bay there is another hotel, as I understand it for the locals.
In order to get to the store / market, you need to ride a tuk-tuk 6-7 km towards the village of Kalkudakh.

Somewhere a kilometer on the beach, to the right of the hotel, in the village itself (you can’t say otherwise, by our standards it’s a farm) Pasikuda has a small market for local tourists (I’m afraid what they sell there will be of little interest) and 2-3 catering establishments : ) you can’t call them restaurants... Nobody speaks Russian in the hotel and around, apparently because dear compatriots are rare guests here, which is especially pleasing : )
As a result, I can say one thing - those who like a quiet, relaxing beach holiday with good service and well-trained, friendly staff will not be mistaken by choosing Uga. As it turned out, there are charms at a great distance from the capital of the island.
P. S. I almost forgot - despite the weather forecasts on the network, there was practically no rain 2-3 times, only in the evening or at night it rained a little and in general the weather was much more comfortable than in January on the west coast - not so hot.
