Tricky island of Lazarus
Before each trip, I always plan a route so that I can see more, learn more, be inspired. Returning to the majestic and amazing with its unique architecture Venice, I wanted to see something new, except for central Venice and the islands that I had already visited. Having studied the issue, I realized that I just needed to visit a small island, which in their descriptions some authors called “a guiding star and a mirror of Armenian culture for the entire Western world”, namely the island of St. Lazarus - San Lazzaro degli Armeni. There, Lord Byron himself studied Armenian culture and the Armenian language.
You can get to the island by vaporetto number 20 from the S. Zaccaria stop to S. Lazzaro, however, not all vaporetto flights reach the island itself. I decided to go there in the afternoon, just to walk around the territory of the monastery, because, to tell the truth, I am not a fan of monasteries.
The territory of the island is very small and almost all of its modest territory is completely occupied by the monastery of the Mkhitarist order. AND ON THE TERRITORY YOU WILL NOT WALK - EVERYTHING IS CLOSED. In free access, only a small area in front of the entrance to the monastery. Which came as a surprise to me, to put it mildly. Here, either sign up for a tour, which costs 6 euros, or wait for the next vaporetto. I was lucky, since the monks start their tour daily at 15:25, by this time the transport crowded with tourists arrived. The next flight would have to wait two hours. It's up to you to go to the island of San Lazzaro degli Armenia.
