My beautiful Naples. part 1
Last year, my wife and I traveled on the "Southern Italy" tour from the deceased "Natalie Tours" (the story is on the website). Once in Naples, we were immediately fascinated by this noisy, lively and beautiful city! But three days in Naples turned out to be very little, and even Capri and Pompeii were visited these days.
Then we decided to come here and leisurely explore the city and its surroundings. Tickets for the S7 cost us 30 thousand for two and bought for 15.5 thousand (plus 35 euros city tax) a week at the Napoli Garden hotel without breakfast. The hotel was chosen near the Central Station, because. very convenient in terms of travel and there are many supermarkets nearby.
The airport is close to the city, on Alibus (bus) we arrived in 20 minutes, it costs 5 euros per person, the first stop is near the station.
The hotel is located on the 5th-6th floors of an old house with a huge terrace and beautiful views of Vesuvius and the panorama of the city. however, we left the hotel early and returned late, i. We basically just ate and slept there. The room was like a room, everything you needed was there, the main thing was a small refrigerator. At this time, it is not the season in Naples, for a week only 2 nights were occupied in the next room.
Views from the room
Before we left, we were worried about the weather. a few days before departure, a strong hurricane with showers passed through Italy, many attractions were closed, incl. in Naples, but the fears turned out to be in vain - the weather was simply magnificent, sunny: +20 during the day, +12 at night.
We visited some sights of the city last year, so first of all we decided to look at places where we had not been. on the first evening we went for a walk around the city towards one of the most beautiful churches of San Giovanni a Carbonara, begun in the 14th century. A church on a hill, in front of it is an elegant double staircase
But then we were disappointed. November is good for everyone in Naples, only a short daylight hours at 17-30 is already sunset, and Italian churches are generally not well lit anywhere in the evening. Twilight practically reigned here and the main attraction - the tombstone of King Vladislav and the frescoes were almost invisible. even my fast lens on my Fujik did not help. I had to visit the church again.
Next we went along the rather busy street of Foria,
We had a bite to eat there in a wonderful pastry shop, which, by the way, is the norm for Naples.
Then we turned back along the familiar Via Duomo, where the Cathedral of San Gennaro is located, i. е. St. Januarius (at one time the wonderful comedy "Operation Saint Januarius" was very popular). Of course they couldn't get through. It should be noted here that all the churches in Naples are free, they take money only for entering the treasuries or some cloisters-church courtyards (for example, the wonderful majolica courtyard of the church of Santa Chiara). The cathedral was not pleased with the lighting again, here is the main nave
but in the chapel of St. Januarius it was still tolerable. There is a richly decorated reliquary with the head of a saint. The head is decorated with a miter with a huge amount of precious stones (3328 diamonds, 198 emeralds, 168 rubies) and much more. all these treasures are in the Cathedral Museum and are worn only on especially solemn days. Here are the frescoes of Ribera and Lanfranco are not very visible.

The relics of the saint themselves were transferred to the crypt of the cathedral in the 15th century by Cardinal Carafa
here is his sculpture in the crypt
Relics are stored here
The oldest building of the cathedral is the Chapel of St. Retistuta, where the oldest baptismal facility in Italy is located - the baptismal of St. John, founded back in 343. In fact, on the site of the cathedral stood the church of St. Retistuty, then it turned out to be built into a new temple.

Let's leave the cathedral - it's already evening, we need to return to the hotel to rest
we walked along the well-known Via Tribunale
Here is our number. Night view from the window is also good
This is how the first day ended
