In 2008, there was a significant trip to an exhibition in Italy! I represented our country as part of the Ukrainian delegation at Bit - The International Travel Exhibition in Milan, and then at the Calabria exhibition, then a completely unknown and undeveloped tourist region in southern Italy. It was a unique format for the event, when we did not go around the stands to find new partners and learn about their product, but potential partners came to us to present themselves to us!

Each member of the delegation was assigned a table, to which there really was a queue of local hoteliers and operators! True, a slight difficulty arose during the event: it turned out that most of the local “tourist business sharks” do not speak English even at the “school level”! Then the organizers, in order to somehow establish communication, promptly found and invited our “migrant workers” from Western Ukraine as translators, who translated for us from Italian into broad Ukrainian. (Russian colleagues were less fortunate in this regard).

The Toe of the Italian Boot impressed with its primordial beauty and incredibly open, hospitable, rustic, a little naive people. . .

Here I saw for the first (and last) time in my life:

  • tangerines, when cleaning them, a fine-dispersion juice spray from the pores of the peel was used per meter;
  • huge gnarled "lemon-like" bergamots, emitting an amazing aroma (before that, I thought that bergamot was a herb);
  • Delicious espresso at the hotel bar for less than 1 euro per cup.
  • Calabria has a large number of small towns, characterized by ancient charm and amazing beauty, which are located on the slopes of the mountains and along the entire coast. Historical centers, craft shops, ancient and traditional houses, civil and religious buildings, magical squares where you can feel the breath of the past.

    Don't miss the ancient city of Scalea, the hidden bays of Cape Scalea, Tropea, a pearl with palaces from the 17th and 18th centuries; you should also visit the medieval walled city of Gerace, which is located in the south near the archaeological site of Locri, offering amazing views of the Ionian coast.
