May Day Verona + First rise. 1760.
2. Travel notes. May-2013
01.05. 2013
Here is the morning. Happy holiday everyone!
Still basking in a wide comfortable bed.
The room is slightly chilly. But under a thin blanket is quite comfortable.
The owner of the apartment is completely inaudible. A very nice sweet lady. I have pillows in hand lace. And on the table under the lamp, too, lace. Very original design of the apartment. The room is only 10 meters. But very, very ....
My current companions got to Padua in the morning - Skype message at 4.38. Satisfied with the apartments. Today we have a meeting. I'm waiting for a call from them.
Traditional Italian breakfast: coffee, croissants, butter, jam.
Loredana offered me toasts, I didn't refuse.
And my decision - to try croissants after toast - was wrong.
It would be better if there was an aftertaste of toast.
But the very act of having breakfast in the kitchen of an Italian apartment is a whole new experience.
"Breakfast" morning Verona, I went at about 9.30.
It started to rain near Porta Palio. Real spring blind rain. Under the crown of a chestnut tree in full bloom, I waited out the largest drops, taking this short time to read e-mail on the iPad. And then she continued her short morning walk along the Stradone Porta Palio to Castelvecchio.
I looked into the courtyard of the castle: nothing has changed there since my previous visit. Unless there were fewer or almost no people.
The Ponto Scaligero bridge was also almost deserted. And the river Adige still carried its turbulent waters to the Adriatic Sea.
Via Roma reached Piazza Bra. She sat down on a bench near the fountain. Once again, I admired the Arena di Verona and Piazza Bra, which was already beginning to fill with tourists.
I wandered along Via Mazzini to Piazza Erbe, eating another portion of Italian ice cream. This time - "fragola + menta".
And then I was overtaken by the news that it was time to return to the house of Loredana. Because my fellow travelers have already woken up and are in a hurry to see the Italian lakes.
Literally 15 minutes ago they drove into Verona.
So we go further along the route.
See you. Dali be.
We left Verona at about 13.00 and on the autobahn we got to Riva-del-Garda (Riva-Del-Garda) - a city on the shores of a blue lake. So it happened faster. And then along the "cornice" (the road along the coast of Lake Garda) arrived in Malcesine (Malcesine).
The purpose of visiting Malcesine was to take the cable car up Mount Baldo. The cost of lifting is 19 euros, but after 15.00 the fare is reduced to 15 euros. There were 10 minutes left for the "discount" time, and we did not fail to use the sconto. The ascent to the mountain is carried out with a transfer. In the second section, the cabins slowly rotate clockwise. During the ascent, a gorgeous view of the lake and the surrounding area opens up.
But from the top - the landscape is unique!
The frozen water surface, the dark green peaks of the mountains on the opposite shore of the lake ...and if you turn back - and another pastoral: in the distance the snow-capped peaks of the mountains, the emerald green of fresh grass on the slopes, far below - the blue saucer of the lake and a thin thread of the highway
Dinner. Today we have on the menu - Lasagne Baldo, wine, coffee = 15 €.
At 16.50 we are still sitting. Super all around. Snow on the peaks. Below is Lake Garda. Quiet and warm.
Fell into the snow. Yes, yes ....It failed!
After all, I just wanted to take a picture in the snow barefoot!
We are waiting for the funicular cabin at 17.45.
Temperature 12 degrees.
Height 1760 m. Descent. Go......
We did not get to Bardolino. The "traffic jam" on the road, the search for a supermarket and the wine drunk on Monte Baldo are to blame. We passed by.
We got a little lost looking for a supermarket. As a result, we "kissed" the doors of the closing LiDL. And bought ham, buns and water - in a local shop.
We arrived at the hotel at 20:30. Settled in quickly. True, there was no elevator.
At the reception desk, the eyebrows rose like a house from the question about the elevator. We then laughed for a long time, remembering this.
We went to the lake for dinner. There is a table with benches prepared for us. The mirror-like surface of the water, the flickering green-red lights of the fairway. And silence.......
We returned to the hotel at 22.30.
Stuck on devices. Everyone is in his own.
The night is coming. Second night in Italy.
Tomorrow on the program: the next lake - Lago di Maggiore (Lake Maggiore) and Isole Borromee (Boromean Islands).
