Venice Carnival and the Dolomites in one trip. Part 1. Venice
I'll tell you about a trip to Italy (2017), which was dedicated to the Venice Carnival. Although initially I wanted to go to the mountains. Now the Alps and Dolomites have become more accessible than the Caucasus, from which the love for snow-capped peaks began.
My daughter Olga and I started training late - only at the end of November. Therefore, in Venice, I had to live in the suburbs (Mestre), and in the Dolomites - in a remote province.
The Venice Carnival that year was held from February 11 to 28, but its main events are on weekends in this interval.
Therefore, it was decided, having arrived on Saturday, the 18th, to try to catch one interesting event.
Leave Venice for Vicenza on the 19th
20-23 to spend in the mountains,
24 back to Venice,
25 day trip to Brescia
and the 26th, the main carnival day, to spend in Venice.
18.02. 17 Venice
Arriving, this and that,
in a hurry and as a result, having arrived from the suburbs to Venice by bus with hares (drivers don’t sell tickets, and there were no kiosks nearby), we didn’t have time for the event “Procession of Mary”. (12 beautiful girls dressed in ancient costumes march through the city center in a long procession. This action is held in memory of the medieval story about the rescue of Venetian girls from pirates. )
In Venice, it's natural for everyone to gravitate toward Piazza San Marco. Winding pedestrian paths lead from the bus station along the streets south of the Canal Grande, and from the railway station - north of the canal. Picturesqueness begins immediately, but on the first day we were in a hurry. And near the bridge Ponte dell'Accademia they stopped rushing.
Famous palaces on the left, Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute church on the right.
On this day, if I am not mistaken, a competition of carnival costumes began, and as we approached the city center, such scenes began to be observed more and more often,
and then just shake your head.
It was not the first time for me and Olga in Venice, but there was not enough time to climb the stairs of the Contarini del Bovolopalace. By the way, to get there from Campo Manin, you need to know which narrow passage to dive into. It turned out that the staircase, no, the staircase was chosen by lovers of photo shoots.
Rate the hat:
During the break between photo shoots, we managed to approach the parapet of the upper platform of the Stairs and admire the city from a height:
The fast passers are obviously not tourists:
Tourists look like this:
Most of the photos are by Olga, she loves to capture reflections in glass and in water, and Venice is a paradise for this.
She also has an eye for window dressing, which she obviously has from her days in the fashion industry.
Here is San Marco:
We caught some procession:
After a year of seclusion, the crowds of people in the photo do not cause irritation, but tenderness.
The boundaries between Signors and Freaks are conditional.
Cafe Florian. Remember the wonderful film with Churikova about Venice? On carnival days, it looks like this:
It's getting dark, and we're walking along the embankment.
The famous Ponte dei Sospiri –Bridge of Sighs leading to the prison. It can be removed from the embankment only with the heads of tourists. You can easily view it from the opposite side, from another bridge. Even better are the views from inside the Bridge of Sighs. This is during an excursion to the Doge's Palace.
In Venice, both natural and artificial lighting play a big role.
We returned to the bus station by vaporetto (boat - the main public transport in the city center). And again a hare, and for the same reason: the ticket office on the pier was closed. As a precaution, we got out near the Rialto Bridge, and there we already bought tickets.
Near the Rialto Bridge and life is in full swing late at night:
