My husband and I stayed at the hotel from March 24 to April 2.2013. This hotel was chosen as one of the cheapest ones; almost all the reviews said - the best combination of price and quality. BUT having stayed in Bali for 3 weeks, having changed 4 hotels during this time at different resorts in different price categories, I can say with confidence that Sayang Maha Mertha is far from the best choice.

The hotel is very old, it seems that it was built 30 years ago and, apparently, it has not been refurbished or renovated since then. Everything in the hotel - furniture, furnishings, interior, exterior, to put it mildly, is more than modest. Everything is somehow shabby, dilapidated, peeling, falling apart.
The rooms are furnished to a minimum - a wardrobe, a fairly comfortable bed and one bedside table. When we first checked in, the room had a closet with some shelves, it did not provide for hangers, but at our request, the closet was changed for us promptly.
The shower room is quite clean, there is only cold water in the shower, but it is a pleasant temperature. Also, upon arrival, our shower was broken, and it was also quickly repaired for us.
One of the criteria for choosing a hotel was the presence of a swimming pool. In the pictures and video, he looked very nice. But in fact, we bathed in it only once. The pool works around the clock, it is not cleaned, and in the morning an incredible amount of bleach is poured into it from a large bag, which in some places does not dissolve, but lies in slides at the bottom of the pool. Even without going into the pool, you can feel this "aroma".
Another minus is that the hotel has some part of the rooms without air conditioning, and we got just such a room with one fan. To be honest, it was very difficult in Bali at this time of the year without air conditioning, the fan did not save, at night they opened the door to the balcony, the window, but this did not help much. Sometimes they even woke up at night from stuffiness and went to the shower to at least somehow freshen up.
And another big inconvenience - right in front of our windows, at the level of our floor, a new building was being built, and workers from early morning began to knock, rattle, and at the same time look into the windows. So I had to close and be stuffy.
As for breakfast - as far as we understand, in many hotels in Bali, the minimum breakfast is included in the room rate - 2 toasts with jam, juice or small pieces of fruit and coffee. No buffet like in Thailand or Vietnam. It is clear that every day you will not be full of these toasts, and you have to order something else in the cafe. Thus, breakfast for two cost us an additional 5-8 dollars.
Wi-fi in the hotel is only near the reception, and the quality is disgusting. Naturally, on vacation, the availability of the Internet is not the main criterion for choosing a hotel, but, for example, we needed to book another hotel, I honestly tried to do this for 3 days, then I spat and went to an Internet cafe. I am generally silent about attempts to talk on Skype.
Hotel pros:
The rooms have balconies, on the balcony there is a table, 2 chairs and a swimsuit dryer.
The location of the hotel is 7 minutes walk to the sea.
That, perhaps, is all, I will add only one thing: on vacation, I usually take pictures of hotel rooms, so that later I can show where we rested. In this hotel, I did not take a single photo, because. I don't want to remember him at all.
