We decided to spend the May holidays in Budapest. After reading the reviews, carefully studying the map of the city, we decided to stay at Golden Park. We bought a ticket from the "Ukrainian Tourist Center", packed our bags and hit the road : )
I want to say that everything that was written here about the hotel is true, the hotel is located in a convenient location, to the City Park, where the Szé chenyi baths, the zoo, the transport museum, the museum of fine arts, the art gallery, the Heroes' Square and Andriashi Street begin-- twenty minutes walk, metro stop a stone's throw from the entrance to the hotel, there is a bus stop opposite, next to the station, next to the hotel is the final tram stop. Not far from the hotel there are two 24-hour grocery stores, this is a very important fact, because all the shops and cafes in the area, and even the notorious Tesco in the Arena Plaza, are open only until 11 pm. Here, we, for example, were brought from the airport to the hotel at 22.30. when we ran to Tesco it was 22.50 and the guard kicked us out - they say, we are "closing" : ( Thanks to the kind people from the pizzeria next to the hotel - they took pity, let us eat... By the way, their restaurant, as far as I understand, There is a so-called "Breakfast Room" (dining room), from the hotel lobby you can go to the "Italian Pizzeria" adjoining the building and to the "Restaurant Mediteran", but these establishments can also be accessed from the side of the street.
Directly about the hotel: the hotel is clean, freshly painted, but of course, compared to Turkish, Hungarian 4 * seem like a monastery hotel. The room is small, but our room had a balcony. The decor in the room is "spartan": a bed (quite comfortable), a wardrobe, a table, a refrigerator (empty), a TV, a mirror, one (!? ) bedside table. . . There are no "excesses" like a cup for toothbrushes : )

Garbage is taken out every day, but make no mistake - towels are not changed, they are simply folded and hung again. We had one torn towel - it was folded and hung all the time, but not changed. We even tried to leave a tip - it didn’t help : ) In general, an interesting situation came up with the tip: we returned to the hotel on the first day, we looked, cleaned, covered, at first it seemed that the towels were fresh... The next day, they left 200 forints on the table with coins , we arrive - the garbage is taken out, the bed is made, my husband's pajamas are lying on the bedside table, mine is crumpled under the pillow, the towels have not been changed, there are no forints : ) The next day, again they left 200 forints - a piece of paper, everything is the same, for except for the bedside table. Conclusion: it is not necessary to leave a tip, as our experience shows, we received the highest quality service in the "Golden Park" on the first day "for free". Apparently, the maid, as soon as she sees the money, immediately forgets about work : ) (That's right, why work when the money is already in your pocket).
The room has a TV set "Grundik", it has a very interesting "installation" - it stands on the table right in front of the mirror. That is, in the mirror, which hangs low enough, except for the “priests” of the TV, you can’t see anything : )) The question arises - why the hell is it needed there, is it a mirror?; ) Local “hotel” television is shown on the first channel in Grundik . That is, a black phone in full screen and a list of hotel services in Hungarian. There are two or three channels in Hungarian, 5 in German, one in English (they showed only billiards competitions) and one very indistinct, weakly showing "RU-Music".
Separately, I want to dwell on the "view from the window": there was a tram stop under our window, and this, comrades, was not the worst option, because we practically did not hear the tram, and looking at the roofs of houses is much more pleasant than at a construction site, neighboring windows ( the hotel was built with the letter "P") or on a dilapidated railway station and a highway, along which ambulances and fire trucks with flashing lights and sirens pass every night at a speed of 65 km / h.
Very friendly people working at the reception. True, we did not try to speak Russian with them (in my opinion they do not know it). In general, I have an opinion about the people of Budapest as benevolent, non-malicious and non-punctual people. They are not in a hurry and do not worry about "little things". All shops and cafes speak at least English. I remember in one of the establishments I happened to observe a waiter who spoke three languages - English, Italian and German, he changed the language depending on the visitors he approached. To better establish "two-way contact" with sellers or waiters, I advise you to learn two simple Hungarian phrases: "Yo noput nod! " (good afternoon) and "Kö senem" (thank you), when the Hungarians hear these words from the lips of a foreigner, their eyes warm up, and a sincere smile illuminates their concentrated faces : ).

About breakfasts: everything that was written here before me is true. : ) Breakfasts are monotonous, but satisfying. By the way, do not forget to stock up on paper napkins when traveling to Hungary! I don’t understand why, but the Hungarians save on them. You will be given one napkin, on which they will put a knife and fork, put a glass of beer or a cup of coffee - EVERYTHING! And it does not matter, at the same time, what you will eat - a leg of lamb or candy. By the way, in the hotel, in the "Breakfast Room", very often they did not disdain to put cutlery on a paper napkin left over from the previous guest who had breakfast. I always basically crumpled my napkin after I noticed it.
About the trip: of course there were pleasant moments, but in general - I did not like it. The city is so dirty and neglected that you just want to cry. The restored buildings can be counted on the fingers. The famous Vaci street is now being renovated, it is all dug up, a bunch of stones, sand and pipes are lying on the street; and in the midst of all this construction, people are walking and street open (! ) restaurant sites are working. The passageways stink so much that even homeless people prefer to sleep on the street. Old residential buildings are in disrepair, if you look at your head a brick will fall, and bronze monuments were cleaned for the last time, probably under Franz Joseph: (Here on TV, on the eve of May 9, they showed a chronicle of defeated Berlin... If today to bring the tank to the same Andriashi street in Budapest, then a movie about the Second World War can be shot without scenery : ( In general, Budapest is going through hard times now, so if you are going to "look at civilized Europe" - choose another place. Our Kyiv group was crying with happiness when the Dnieper began to sparkle under the wing of the plane and the awkward Kiev high-rise buildings sparkled with glass and concrete.
