Lokrum island
Lokrum Island, a small island (only 0.8 sq. km), is very close to Dubrovnik (15 minutes by boat from the port of the Old Town). There is a Botanical Garden on the island, where tropical and subtropical plants grow, as well as several families of peacocks. Lokrum is also famous for the unique Dead Lake, the water of which is salty and clear.
On the highest point of the island (91 meters above sea level) in 1806 the French built a fort - Fort Royal, which offers a fantastic view of the Old Town of Dubrovnik.
The first boat from Dubrovnik leaves for Lokrum at 9 am, the last one at 8 pm, the ticket price is 80 kunas round trip. The island has a good restaurant, which is located next to the Benedictine monastery (delicious sea bream, squid and other marine life), as well as a snack bar, the menu of which is simpler and cheaper.
The beaches on Lokrum are rocks with a ladder descending into the sea. There is a tap with fresh water, as well as a small fountain from which you can safely draw water for drinking. The sea off the coast of Lokrum is probably the most transparent and cleanest in the entire region of South Dalmatia (although it is also the coldest - the water warms up to 20 - 22 degrees).
