I spent my 10 day vacation with my girlfriend in Crete at the end of August. The island is just beautiful. We stayed at the Zantina Hotel. Located in the city of Rethymno, the road from the airport took about 2 hours.
A small 2 * city-type hotel, there is no territory as such, only two buildings with rooms. In front of the hotel there is a small terrace with a roof and tables and chairs.
There is a sandy beach across the road from the hotel, but the entrance to the sea is pebbly. Sunbeds and umbrellas are paid. The beach line is long and there are many taverns along the promenade, some of them provide a sunbed for a purchased drink, very convenient, by the way.
The settlement went quickly. We had a double room. Air conditioning, TV, mini-fridge are free, everything is in working order. The furniture is normal: 2 single beds, bedside tables, dressing table, wardrobe. On the balcony there is a table with chairs, a beautiful view of the sea. A bit noisy in the evenings. In general, everything is decent, clean.
Cleaned and changed linen 2 times a week.
Breakfast is basically normal for a couple. For breakfast, Greek yogurt, honey, two types of jam, juice, tea or coffee, cheese and sausage cuts, bread, cookies and crackers are served.
Wi-fi is free, at the reception it was best to catch.
The old town of Rethymno can be reached on foot in 30 minutes at a leisurely pace. There is a bus station behind the Venetian fortress, you can take a regular bus to Chania (cost 6.80 €) and to Heraklion 8.30 €. Also a 5 minute walk from the hotel is a supermarket Halkiadakis, there is a large selection and prices are reasonable.
Good budget hotel. Recommend.

Rested with a friend in the hotel Zantina in August this year. We have already been to Greece (Rhodes, Corfu), but for the first time in Crete. We waited not long, about 30 minutes, until everyone gathered and went to our hotel.

Rested with a friend in the hotel Zantina in August this year. We have already been to Greece (Rhodes, Corfu), but for the first time in Crete.
The flight went well, arrived even earlier than scheduled. Upon leaving the airport, we were met and escorted to the bus. We waited not long, about 30 minutes, until everyone gathered and went to our hotel. The road is very picturesque, you just have time to look around. During the journey, the accompanying girl told interesting facts about the island. Time flew by quickly. Although we did not notice, but it took about 2 hours until we got to our hotel, it was one of the last, but close to the city.
We arrived at the hotel around 10 and were seated immediately. The room is not bad, there is enough space for two, cozy, sea view. The room is provided free of charge with air conditioning, a TV with two Russian channels and a mini-fridge, two single beds, a wardrobe, bedside tables, a dressing table, a bathroom and a balcony.
And although we didn’t sleep all night, we were very tired after the road, but we immediately changed clothes and went to the beach. The beach is 30 meters across the road)))) The sea is cool, we jumped on the waves, sunbathed and forgot to even use sunscreen, which we later regretted, as we burned notably. The beach is sandy, quite clean, the entrance to the sea is gentle, but after a couple of meters there are stones at the bottom, it is better to buy special shoes. Sunbeds and umbrellas are paid, 7 euros per set.
From the Zantina hotel to the old town of Rethymno, 30 minutes on foot. In the evening, walking to the city center is the best thing to have dinner in one of the traditional taverns, as the hotel provides only breakfast. Breakfasts are ordinary, nothing special: cheese and sausage slices, bread, jams, honey, butter, Greek yogurt, tea, coffee.
Internet in the hotel is free in the lobby near the reception, the signal is quite good.
On the recommendation of our hotel guide, Galina purchased a program called Venice of the South, aka Chania, and did not regret it at all. The city of Chania is really very beautiful and colorful, it was a pleasure to walk around the old town and the embankment.
We also really wanted to get to Santorini and at the end of our vacation we went there. It is very convenient that our tour operator has an air tour to this island. Seeing this beauty with our own eyes, we almost squealed with delight! How many times have I seen these landscapes in pictures, but here it's all live. There was plenty of time, we were in all the most interesting places in Santorini. And for a snack was the capital of the island - Fira. We were very lucky to catch the sunset in this city.
Special thanks to the guide Alena, who was with us on both excursions. This is a very educated, interesting and well-read person, it was a pleasure to listen to her!
We had a great rest, I definitely advise the island of Crete and the hotel as a budget option is very good.

Just returned from a holiday in Crete, we choose this island for a holiday for the fourth time. For the first time, we rested at the Zantina Hotel - a modest, small and cozy hotel on the seashore.
The hotel is two-star, small - located right on the beach. It takes about 20 minutes to walk to the Old Town. So the hotel is in a great location.
The reception catches the Internet, very good, by the way.
The room has everything you need - air conditioning, refrigerator, bed, wardrobe and bedside table. We had a room with a sea view, so in the evenings we always admired the beautiful sunsets.
When we arrived, we were met by Daria, our guide, who told us about everything and answered all our questions. Since we are in Crete for the fourth time, we thought that we would not be surprised in terms of trips, but Dasha succeeded. We went to the Cretan evening, a very cool program, we recommend it to everyone, tables really broke from food, wine and crayfish flowed like water, and the dancers taught us how to dance folk dances. But most importantly, we tried the lamb anticristo there - it takes more than 4 hours to cook, the meat is very juicy and soft.
We also took a car, drove to our favorite places on the island, our guide helped with the car (by the way, at a very good price).
We are very satisfied with the rest, we are already waiting for the next vacation to come to Crete!

The territory of the hotel is small, but the sea is nearby, and the old town is a 20-minute walk, so we did not get bored at the hotel.
Wi-fi is good, however, catches at the reception.
The rooms are equipped with air conditioning, which could not but rejoice, because when we rested, it was very hot. There was always cold and hot water, and there were Russian channels. Our room had a sea view, so we enjoyed the sunset in the evenings.
The staff does not speak Russian, but we had enough of our initial English to find a common language. If we did not understand something, then Daria, our hotel guide, always helped us.
The hotel only offers breakfast. Coffee, water, cheese, sausage, yogurt - quite a standard breakfast. For lunch and dinner we went to the tavern. We especially liked the Loggia tavern, which is located in the old town. There are huge portions, very tasty, and the prices are low for the old city.
For the entire holiday, we rented a car for 2 days and drove a little through the main attractions. And we flew by plane to Santorini, I recommend an air tour to everyone who wants to go to Santorini, you spend much less time on the road and we spent more than 10 hours on the island. And the price is not much different from the price on the ship. Thank you for organizing excursions and cars - Daria.
In general, the holiday was a success.

The hotel is small, about 20 rooms, very well maintained and comfortable. The rooms have everything you need for life - a small refrigerator, cabinet, wardrobe, bed, air conditioning. There is always hot water in the shower, no problem.
Zantina is located on the waterfront, and not far from the old town. Walk to the sea for a minute.
Breakfast at the hotel is good, but monotonous. Always one kind of ham, cheese, yogurt, tea, coffee, etc. If we left early for an excursion, our hotel guide ordered us an early breakfast.
Wifi only works at the reception. They contacted relatives via viber or skype. The internet worked very well.
We want to say thanks to our hotel guide - Daria, she always helped us, answered all questions regarding our holiday. We also went on an excursion to Santorini - an air tour, very convenient, because our flight was only 25 minutes, and we had a lot of free time on the island. If you are going to Santorini - we recommend an air tour, it is much more convenient than on a ship that sails for more than 3 hours
In general, the rest was excellent, we are satisfied with everything, we will definitely return to Crete again!

Having returned a few months ago from a vacation in Crete, I just found the time and sat down at my laptop with the desire to describe these unforgettable two weeks in as much detail as possible, while pictures of the narrow streets of the old city, mountainous landscapes still pop up before my eyes, and the sound of waves is heard in my ears ...Let it be a lot of time has passed...
Having already visited mainland Greece and several islands, this year I wanted to get acquainted with the largest Greek island and, without hesitation, I went to a travel agency and bought a ticket from June 6 to 20. In Greece, I travel only with a tour operator, as I have repeatedly been convinced of the high level of comfort, and most importantly, the care from the staff. You can organize a vacation yourself, I agree with this, but I want to go on vacation and not think about possible problems, but rely on trusted people and the fact that all troubles can be solved for me.
Upon arrival at Heraklion airport, I was met, escorted to the bus, and my unforgettable vacation on the island began) During the transfer, I constantly looked out the windows and could not take my eyes off the mountainous terrain, the local landscapes are so organic, where the rocky mountains smoothly descend into the sea and form secluded coves. On the way, bright oleanders bloom on both sides, and locals also sell only oranges picked from a tree, and whole boxes))
My hotel Zantina was in the city of Rethymnon, and when we drove up to it, only a couple of families were left on the bus, as the rest of the tourists got off in suburban hotels. I specifically asked to find me an inexpensive, modest hotel, closer to the old part of the city and preferably on the first coastline. And how pleased I was with this hotel!
The hospitality and cordiality with which I was greeted by Katerina (a sweet and friendly girl, hotel guide) and Kostas (the receptionist and the one who politely asks if you want a cup of coffee in the morning at breakfast) really touched. And later, Katerina was very attentive and caring towards me and in general to all her tourists in the hotel.
Clean, small rooms with wooden furniture, delicious homemade jams, yogurt and cheese for breakfast, combined with a homely atmosphere and a bewitching sea ten meters from the hotel… Well, what else do you need in order to have a wonderful rest and get to know the island as best as possible by visiting the most beautiful places in Crete. I filled my vacation with various trips: to the ancient port city of Chania and the botanical garden, to the Venetian fortress of Gramvousa and to Balos Bay, and of course, flew to the most picturesque island in the Mediterranean, Santorini)
I had a great time these two weeks, thanks for everything, I will definitely be back!

The region of Rethymnon where I stayed is in the western part of the island, greener and more blooming, especially during the May period. Intoxicating aromas permeate the air in the evenings, when you can enjoy them as you walk along the cobbled promenade to the sound of gently roaring waves. The pleasant music of the traditional lyre, complemented by Cretan tunes, comes from taverns and restaurants that hospitably open their doors to everyone.
The old town of Rethymno deserves special attention, where, walking along the narrow, beautiful streets, you will feel the color of the island.
Numerous shops with spices and olive oil, genuine leather products and miniature pots, plates, jugs and cups made of ceramic, varnished with cheerful colors, unique handmade decorations and much, much more, which will no doubt surprise you!
Thus, the heart of the Rethymno region was only a twenty minute walk from my hotel. Isn't it wonderful? In addition, Zantina Hotel is located right on the waterfront, and to feel the warm sand under your feet and plunge into the azure waters of the unruly Aegean Sea, you just need to cross a short road. Another bonus for the hotel! Of course, the caring attitude of the hotel owners, Maria and Kostas, captivates. Hotel Zantina is a family business, in which the owners put their whole soul, and every guest feels at home, thanks to their care and attention.
I had an amazing vacation, honestly!
A delicious breakfast of aromatic coffee, freshly baked cake, jam and Greek yogurt was waiting for me every morning, after which I knew that the day would go great.
A sea of emotions, memories and bright moments, captured forever in the photo and in my memory! Crete - the island that stays in the heart)

When choosing the Zantina hotel for my vacation, I proceeded from the considerations that I would spend my holidays swimming in the waters of the Aegean Sea, traveling around the island and walking along the romantic streets of the old city of Rethymno.
To be honest, this small, clean, cozy hotel, owned by a married couple, Maria and Kostas, perfectly suited my modest needs. As a student, I absolutely did not want to overpay for luxury in hotels where tables are bursting with all kinds of delicacies, and exquisite service will satisfy the demand of the most demanding guests. In addition, my vacation lasted 2 weeks, and the price for a hotel room was just in line with my budget.
Maria is an excellent cook, which I was convinced of every time at breakfast. I especially fell in love with her pies with feta cheese, literally melting in your mouth)) Speaking of food (and the hotel operates on a BB system), even though there was not much variety in the mornings, but how fresh and tasty all the dishes were, that I always went to breakfast with great anticipation.
I especially liked the location of the hotel. In my opinion, this is a huge advantage of the Zantina hotel over other city hotels. As soon as you step out of the hotel lobby, the endless sea stretches out in front of you, merging with the horizon in the morning, and turning into sunset colors in the evening. The beautiful sandy beach fringes the sea, while the cobbled promenade invites you to take a leisurely promenade after dinner and enjoy the refreshing sea breeze and live music from the many taverns, restaurants and cafes that invite you to your table. From my own experience I can say that in every restaurant you will find traditional Cretan cuisine. And, of course, be sure to order the same Greek salad. We assure you, its taste will not leave you indifferent! So juicy, fragrant and incredibly tasty) And so different from the salad we are used to living in central Russia.
I didn't sit still for a whole day! Guide girl Mouzenidis helped me plan my vacation so that I could see the most interesting places on the island, and at the same time, so that I had time to independently explore the town of Rethymno and its environs (I rode a brand new bike, rented). I saw Knossos, the incredibly beautiful plateau of Lassithi, the Venetian city of Chania, swam in the waters of the Libyan and Ionian seas and rested on the gorgeous beaches of Balos Island!
These holidays were unforgettable! From Crete, I took away a lot of impressions, gorgeous photos and, of course, I bought real olive oil, only now I cook with it and fill all salads with it))
Crete has always been in my heart and I am looking forward to my next vacation so I can come back again!

My boyfriend and I were in Rethymnon for 3 days and decided to stay in an economy class hotel. Zantina Hotel suited us exactly for this reason, plus we liked the idea of a cozy and small family hotel practically on the beach (across the road ? ), and the city center was a stone's throw away.
We chose a studio type room, on the second floor, with a balcony and a sea view. The room has a small built-in kitchen and a refrigerator, which was very convenient when you wanted to cook something yourself from fresh products from the market. There was a feeling that we are renting an apartment, but everything you need is at hand and you are taken care of. The owners (Maria and Kostas) and the staff (Vasiliki and Dimitris) were very friendly and attentive to us, advised us where to eat and swim, called an inexpensive taxi to the airport. Maria cooked delicious feta pies and honey pies for breakfast, which we took with us when we left. In general, the hotel has a very homely atmosphere.
From the wishes, it would be nice if the hotel had internet.

Get ready right away that the hotel does not have its own beach, but you can walk across the road to the city one. There is a beach bar and sun loungers. It costs 2 sunbeds and an umbrella 5 euros. For those who don’t care what to sunbathe on, you can buy an umbrella in a supermarket nearby and lie on a bedspread for at least a whole day. We did not do this because we only went to this beach once, and it was easier for us to pay. There is internet in the hotel, but it's only good in the lobby. The password can be obtained from the reception. Breakfast, in principle, is normal, but I would not say that it is too varied. More precisely, not at all diverse. But there is something to eat. For a week, I think, sandwiches of milk, jams, etc. will not bother. And so you can eat in taverns nearby. Prices are quite reasonable, as for Crete. We were in different places, there are much more expensive, I would say. We liked the rest, but it's boring to sit in the hotel for a long time. So travel! !
