CORFU
Greece, Corfu island, June-July 2012
Advantages and disadvantages:
- Corfu is considered the most picturesque and green island of Greece. Yes, it's true, there is greenery, but not so special) nature as nature. Nothing unusual. I guess I snickered)) but I saw much more beautiful places in Europe)
- Clear sea, water temperature depends on the specific beach and coast. Sidari and Nissaki had pretty warm water. The water is cold in Paleokastritsa. Sandy beach in Sidari, pebbles in Paleokastritsa. Where there are pebbles and stones - the water is of course clearer and cleaner.
- Everyone praises the most beautiful beach of the island Paleokastritsa. I can say that there is nothing special there - the beach is like a beach.
- The infrastructure on the island is poorly developed. Buses run very infrequently and not on schedule. It is unrealistic to leave on a weekend, there can only be 1 bus for the whole day. Even if you managed to take the bus somewhere around the island, it is not a fact that you will return back, as you may not wait for the bus.
As a rule, buses do not run after 7 pm.
A taxi around the island costs 50-60 euros. It's an hour away.
- By sea, no one will agree to take you by boat to neighboring beaches.
- Greeks are lazy. This is why the country is in crisis. They give a damn about everything. Everyone lives in their own little world and does not know what is happening around : )
- People. Many Englishmen who have opened their bars - restaurants there. Apparently they only work there during the summer season. In winter, there is melancholy on the island and no one has a job. Also among the Greeks come across visiting Albanians. they say like hachi with us. not very nice people. They are also called Pontians. They say a lot of them in the north of Greece in Thessaloniki.
Russians were almost never seen in Corfu. We may have had a couple of people in the area. When departing, we saw the airport, but also not super-many. A lot of Russians are spoken in Crete. Few in Corfu.
- Again, the PLUS is that there are few people in general on the beaches and on the island itself. There is no push. There are no Russians.
- In the city of Kerkyra (Corfu Town) there is nothing special to see. There are of course excursions and attractions like several monasteries, museums, fortresses and cathedrals.
But in general, if you walk around the city yourself, then there is nothing to see there.
- There is an excursion to the mainland in Meteora. But I wasn't there. They say nice)
- Food. Overall, not bad. There are Greek taverns and many English bars. I don't know why there are so many English people there.
You can eat for two for 13-16 euros. It's about 8 euros per person. If you take food for 30 euros for two, then it can burst)
For some reason, only orange juice is squeezed out of freshly squeezed ones. For some reason others don't. And diluted with water.
Some coffee is not very tasty, NesCafe is written everywhere. None of the waiters know whether it is ground coffee or powdered coffee)
The word "sour cream" (sour cream) they do not know. They call it yogurt.
Local Greek dishes (from what I remember) - Moussaka, Sofrito, Greek coffee : )
Sofrito - veal stewed with spices in a sauce.
Moussaka in Greek - a casserole of eggplant and new potatoes with beef, baked with a delicate Bechamel sauce.
Dzadziki (pronounced as TAJIKI: ) - prepared from yogurt, fresh cucumbers and garlic, spread on bread and served with meat. - (I haven't tried this. )
They also have Mexican food, saw a couple of Mexican restaurants. There are also a couple of Chinese restaurants. Lasagna is sold everywhere.
- Wine. I thought there would be a lot of tasty and homemade wine there. Fig was here. NO anywhere. Only in tents bottle disgusting.
I remember in Cyprus they gave us home water ...mmm ...in an ice decanter. . this was divine. And here in Corfu, well, nowhere. . the Greeks were completely lazy. .
- Shopping in shit) one China.
- There are no normal shops, only small tents called super market. I didn't find any big stores there.
- Renting a car costs 25-35 euros per day.
You can find it for 20 euros, but I don’t know what condition it will be in : ) This is a mechanic.
It is difficult to find an automatic machine there and you need to book it in advance, I think two weeks in advance. . otherwise fic come in.
You can take a car in the evening, put it in the yard for the night, go for a ride in the morning, and bring it back at the same time in the evening for rent)
Everyone basically rides on the mechanics. Roads are mountains. The descent, then the ascent. Steep turns and descents. There are only two lanes and they are very narrow. It is not always easy to part ways with the bus) Everyone drives through two solid lanes, overtaking, since there are only two lanes, that's all in the opposite direction and overtaking. Usually driven by locals. Tourists usually roll carefully, and the locals ride behind and swear. ) And then they will overtake through a double continuous line. I tried to find how much the penalty for crossing a double solid line in Greece was - I did not find it. But for an unfastened belt, a dofiga fine, it seems 300 euros, if I'm not mistaken)
- Local traffic police) During the day it is difficult to meet them on the road. There is an opinion among local Russian residents that traffic cops do not like to soar their eggs during the day in the heat, and therefore crawl out in the evening, when it is cooler.
- I was glad that there are many bars in Cedar where ROCK MUSIC plays every night, for me it was a pleasant surprise) Often there were pseudo Elvis, pseudo Fredi Mercury, pseudo Michael Jackson, pseudo Lady Gaga and others)) And in one evening it was immediately 3 Elvises (Greek or Albanian Elvis, Asian Elvis and even Lady Elvis)) In general, they have a lot of disguised parades there))
- Diving. I do not advise. The sea is empty, there is nothing to watch at all)) a couple of fish and that's it. It costs 45 euros. Shooting underwater + 10 euros.
- Nice excursion Lazy Days. They take you on a boat ride along the beaches and you swim and are lazy)) True, only 3 beaches were shown for the entire trip, although they could have shown much more.
And instead of a normal dinner, they gave me a big bun with a couple of slices of cheese and a green leaf. Pretty scarce. Wherever I have been before - I have never met such a miserable dinner) everywhere they fed well) in other countries I mean. And then they were greedy. )
- The airport in Corfu Town is very small)) It has a peculiarity, at check-in, luggage must be placed on the runway, it is weighed, and then the luggage does not roll itself along the runway, you need to take it off and drag it to another place so that it can be picked up and later they took me to the plane) somehow lagged behind))
- Aquapark. Aqualand. Pretty stupid. I liked it) I advise you to go there. There are several extreme slides, there are also a lot of things for children : ) In general, it's interesting.
Liked the big pool and artificial waves. You can ride some slides together on one-piece double inflatable circles. The locker room is only miserable, one shower (no tap), and that's it) even there is nowhere to put things.
Separate lockers for storing things, locked with a key, the key is put on the arm on the bracelet.
