Corfu from the other side
(August 2008)
NISSAKI BEACH 4*

“The island of Corfu is an ideal place for a relaxing family and elite vacation, for sports lovers. The coast of the island with the cleanest beaches and the azure sea water of the Ionian Sea stretches for 217 km. ”- these are the phrases that begin many of the welcoming booklets of the island of Corfu and almost the introduction to all the hotels on this island. It's bewitching, isn't it?
So everything is in order:
Flight, transfer - everything is standard like everyone else.
The hotel is located really far from civilization. But there is one road - the one on which you will go by bus or car that you want to rent. You should not walk along it, because there is not enough space for cars, and even more so you won’t have enough.
The same road, only along the coast instead of houses there is a cliff on one side and a mountain on the other

The hotel itself and the room - everything is decently standard with a searching, but working air conditioner just for 4 *.
For those who will miss pets - I can please you, here you will find your happiness - a flock of red little ants in the bathroom will keep you company. They boldly run along the baseboards and seem to even shout something. They have been living here for a long time and react very calmly to new owners and the chemicals they are sprayed with. Don't kill them, feed them and try to tame them.
Food. The food at the hotel was 5 * at first, but by the end it went down to 4 *, although perhaps it just got corny. Arriving at the dining room, it pulls very strongly to the terrace overlooking the sea, well, who can resist having breakfast or dinner while enjoying the blue glow - of course no one can resist. So we, armed with a bunch of plates with all sorts of goodies, merrily ran out onto the terrace. Sat down. We started to eat. And then ...And now imagine that you went to collect, for example, blueberries (whoever collected will understand, and whoever does not - let them ask those who understand  ). In shorts and a t-shirt.
We sat down by the hummock, got wine, laid out food. Got what I'm getting at?? ? - Yes, yes, that huge number of mosquitoes that wish to share a meal with you. And now move from the bump to the table, taking the wine, you can leave the shorts and T-shirt, and, attention, replace the mosquitoes with wasps. Yes, yes, those same yellow biting flies that, having bitten someone, die, because they cannot live without their tool. Of course, wasps are smaller than mosquitoes during berry picking, and apparently the wasps are still European and well-mannered there, because they only climb into food, but if you still brush it off, they won’t like it or she will decide that a piece of peach tastier on your lip than on a plate - you are guaranteed a bite. Statistics: my wife and I were not bitten, my child was bitten once. When I was on vacation, they bit my neighbors on the beach 2 times.
I want to say a separate word about the beach.

Regarding the fact that it is sand and pebble - complete nonsense.
There is no sand there at all, just the farther from the hotel - the smaller the pebbles and the more painfully it sucks into the legs. The width of the beach is 2 rows of lifelongs - in steps, well, like one-two-…-five, tightly packed to each other, for maximum profit multiplied by 2-2.5 Euro per chTuka. After the 2nd row, wooden bridges begin with broken boards in some places and protruding nail heads.

So, having come cheerful and satisfied after a delicious breakfast shared with wasps, to the beach, you can play an exciting game - “pick up a cigarette butt”.

The rules are as follows - collect cigarette butts around your schislong as quickly and as much as possible. The winner will have a prize, a sweet juicy peach, to which bees will fly with a cheerful buzz (they won’t leave you alone on the beach).
We must pay tribute to the sea - it is really clean, due to the fact that the pebbles.
All water activities are standard as elsewhere: catamaran-10E, scooter 50-60E (20 minutes), boat rental -70-100E per day + gasoline (1.5E per liter). Bananas, cheesecakes 10-15E per person. Parachute-60E.
Bassin - of course 2pcs, as it is written, but with chlorinated water, there is no question of sea.
Oh, I forgot, if you want to buy something in the store, well, like eat or drink - you know, you have to walk on foot, because we are with you in complete wilderness, and even if you reach the store that I told you now I’ll point out - there one fig is 2-4 times more expensive than in civilization, BUT, but it’s 2 times cheaper than in our hotel. So, we stand facing the sea, the hotel is on the left hand - on the right is a beautiful beach. We turn very sharply to the right and with a brisk step stomp along the footbridges towards the mountain along the beach. We climbed the hill - we go along the path ....- went to the next bay - it is smaller than ours . . Now the main thing - they were very surprised that, it turns out, your beach is cleaner than this one.

With a satisfied and sarcastic giggle, we turned right, following the sign, and found the store. Very surprised by the assortment, remembering with reverence "Auchan" or any other Supermarket - stocked up on booze - well, what's left? .
It's evening. Nothing to do, nowhere to go. On reflection, you still decide to go down to the beach, to the animators. And oh God!!! ! - You see your happiness, you have never seen anything like this before, such fun contests and funny presenters. Wrapping in toilet paper, drinking beer through a straw, popping balloons - yes, yes, this is exactly what you are missing right now. Having flooded, you flooded before you went down to the beach, with tequila or whiskey - all these contests amuse and delight you, because you know what to do  and how it will end ..
Night - grab fumitox. Because with air conditioning, IMHO, I think you should not sleep, and mosquitoes will try to enter the open balcony and drink your blood.
But if you have previously made friends with the ants, agree that they would protect you ...
Separately, a story called a car for hire. Having met with our guide, Dima from Phoenix, we asked about the cars: Matiz 60E, Citroen 80E, etc. Dima assured us that by renting a car from THEM, you can not be afraid of anything, no matter what happens - NOTHING to pay will not be needed. Even if a bottle falls on your hood, you don't pay. Current rent and gasoline. Of course, we were delighted and almost agreed. BUT decided to find other suppliers of iron horses. We found them in the village of Nissaki itself, i. e. from the hotel up and to the left about 3.5 kilometers along the road (Latitude: N39grd43.614, Longitude: E19grd54.316).
There Matiz 40E, Citroen C3 60E. After talking with the landlord, it turned out that all insurances, like ours, OSAGO and CASCO, and CASCO do not apply to rental cars, i. e.

you take the current OSAGO and pay for all the damage to the car out of your own pocket, I thought strangely, but Dima promised. We took the C3 Citroen. Seeing then somehow Dima on respeshina and asking him the question “what the fuck.. ? "- he spread his hands and said" h. h. » You don’t conclude a contract with him on the account of the lease, but with the company and he doesn’t know business - well, he kind of got away, since he didn’t manage to get involved.
We rented a car for 3 days - that's a lot, just one is enough. Read the guide there everything is dangerous in detail where what and how, except that everywhere there is dirt and cigarette butts. I liked only 2 beaches - in the Agios Georgies area and some other in the Sidari area - they at least seem to clean up the dirt there.
Nice sandy beaches

And it’s also very funny to drive along the coast in some resort town where from the road 10 meters to the sea and at this interval people lie and sunbathe, nothing is fenced off and not hidden from prying eyes - on the edge - an iron mesh.
You lie like this under your nose, cars drive, dirt under you and a beautiful clear sea - romance, blah.

Mount Pankratos is worth a visit - really beautiful
and Corfu itself with their bridge to the airport.

The roads are terribly narrow and winding, sometimes 2 buses cannot pass and one has to give up back. When returning the car (on the Citroen, the fuel quantity lights are on) - in my case, I took it on fire 3, refueled, rode - it burns 2 (only 6). I fill 10l - 2 is on, + 10l - 2 is on. Damn, I thought, and filled in escho + 5l (gasoline at 1.3-1.5 Euro per liter). Iiii attention - fire 5pcs - i. e. almost a full tank. The car needs to be returned - I come and explain the situation, asking for money for at least 10 liters of gasoline - the answer is negative with sending away. Well no - yes no  . Respect Russian vacationers, they know not only where the steering wheel and pedals are, but you boys and girls - do not let yourself be offended.
Water park - we went there through our guide Dima.

Mysteriously whispering that he will arrange that our 2-year-old son will be allowed in for free (he will take care of this) - he charged us 45E per person (in other hotels they took 35). It turned out that in the water park children under 4 years old are free of charge ...Dima - thank you, blah, benefactor. Water park - standard with a cold children's pool, with queues for slides. Not decorated with dirty toilets, apparently cleaned only at the end of the day . . Well, in general, a solid 3 plus (out of 5). Overall worth a visit.
After riding for 3 days - with the whole family we realized one thing - We have an excellent beach in our hotel !! ! Compared to what is happening on others. And the game "pick up a cigarette butt" - turned into a cute pastime with a sly giggle, while remembering all the other beaches.
Other beaches

Summary. In general, compared to where and how other hotels on the island are located, our hotel is a good hotel with a good beach and clear sea, with good food.
But the Greeks, at least on this island, are very, very far from the "elite vacation". All the beaches are dirty, somewhere less somewhere more. Some beaches are right next to the road and are sometimes fenced with a net and sometimes nothing at all ...Well, blah, plant some plants - make a hedge from cars ...
The Greeks are not particularly friendly and hospitable (as they say in books), to my question that they say we are leaving early in the morning and we need to prepare breakfast cereals for the morning - there was an answer that we were late for 1 hour - this is at 19:30 something, when it's 1.5 hours before the end of dinner, and they know at the reception that we are leaving early in the morning.
In general, rest on a solid 4-ku.

Who has any questions - Lumox@mail. ru. . There will be a desire and time to answer ...There are traffic tracks by car and marked points with shops and beaches where I was, because I went with a navigator.
