To be honest, the only requirement that I made to the hotel when choosing a tour was that it should be located in the city center. I didn't want anything else from the hotel. Well, what do you want for such ridiculous money?!
The hotel is called - Maragakis hoetl 2/3 *.
First, about the location:
1) really - in the very center of the city: everything you need for a party, shopping, dinner - right around the corner of the hotel. Actually, in this city there is hardly a hotel that is very far from the center. Hersonissos itself is small: 2 short streets along the beach and many small alleys that connect these two main streets. On the embankment - Beach Road - there is a large part of restaurants, cafes and cereal establishments. On the street parallel to it - Main Road - there are other institutions necessary for life in the city: pharmacies, banks, shops, eateries, and so on.

2) Opposite the entrance is the police station. Actually, it was on him that the windows of my room overlooked. This, of course, gave some confidence in safety, but I would still prefer a sea view : )))
3) the beach is very close: across the road. The beach in the city center is a rather rotten place. A very narrow strip of sand interspersed with pebbles (literally 10 meters), which, moreover, was periodically flooded with waves. There are much nicer beaches: from the port towards Heraklion (at a leisurely pace, 10-15 minutes from the center) and “Star Beach” (toward Stalis, 25-30 minutes). Although the sea is the same everywhere - cool, and the entrance to the sea is rocky. And the sea itself is very salty. Lens users should be very careful: one hit of sea water in the eyes - and an eye infection is provided for you for several days (I know from myself). The beaches are free everywhere: you can throw your things and fall yourself wherever you want. You will only have to pay for additional services: renting a sun lounger, an umbrella (from 3 to 6 euros) or drinks (about the same), if you need them, of course. I slept perfectly on my towel after a night of partying.
The food at the hotel is quite average. Breakfast - standard continental (cereals, toast, eggs, fruits, vegetables, tea, juice, coffee). Dinner - more varied (soup, several types of hot, vegetables and ice cream or fruits for dessert).
Fans of the Egyptian-Turkish food system, pass by. The local breakfast/dinner exists only so that you do not die of hunger, and not so that you try 30 different dishes and then could not get up from the table.
Those who like to stay in the hotel in the evenings, and you are not here. The hotel has nothing (absolutely nothing) for entertainment (not even a pool. ).

Now, actually, about the number. The only reason I wasn't shocked by the view of the room was that I had already seen something similar in India. In the room: dressing table, 2 beds, bedside table, mirror and fan. In the bathroom there is a shower-toilet. No TV, no hair dryer. I open the window, go out onto the terrace (it was on the 1st floor) - and there the local cops are standing, smoking on the porch of the site and winking at me (the guys turned out to be funny, by the way: they could poison stories for hours).
All my things all 15 days safely lay right on the second - free - bed, which did not bother me at all. No, of course, there was a closet in the room, but there were no shelves in it.
A clear advantage over a Goan hotel: there are no living creatures in Maragakis. None at all, not even spiders, and even more so - orange lizards, of which I had from 2 to 6 living in an Indian hotel room at the same time.
Well, cleaning, of course, super: just do not find fault. A low bow to you, unknown maid, for regularly putting my shoes scattered all over the room against the wall at the exit, putting cosmetic accessories in the toilet cabinet, putting the curling iron in a case (I was generally delighted with this).
Summary: this hotel can be chosen only by those people who do not want anything from it at all. Nothing at all. There will be no silk sheets, no champagne in the room, no stomach feast. There will NOT even be a breakfast box (well, technically they are, but what it consists of can hardly be called food).
And now a few small observations, where and what can be found in the city (I hope it will be useful to someone).
one). Crete is still Europe, which means that everything is quite familiar, unlike other countries where I have been.
- You can withdraw money from an international bank card. Money can be withdrawn not at every ATM, and they will definitely take a percentage of the withdrawn amount. I had a Sberbank Visa with me. And although the euro exchange rate clearly pleased me (39.5, when the euro was already worth 43 rubles), but the interest accruing to this amount clearly pleased me not so much: 1% - takes a savings bank, 3% - a local bank, whose ATM I use , and 15 rubles are withdrawn for each (! ) appeal to an ATM (i. e. even if you have not withdrawn anything from the card, 15 rubles will be withdrawn simply for inserting the card)

- If you have a minor health problem (I don't mean open fractures, tropical fever or bullet wounds), you can always go to any pharmacy or one of the private doctors. Medicine is well developed here, and medicines are well known. I was not lucky enough to visit the doctor three times during the holidays.
- The bus service between the cities is just wonderful. For an amount of 3 to 10 euros, you can drive half the island. So, I, for example, looked at the city of Heraklion. Only 6 euros both ways. It's cheaper than taking a tour anyway.
2). Laundries can be found everywhere (including at the hotel), but the pleasure is not cheap. They charged me as much as 2 euros for ironing a regular cotton shirt.
3). There is no need to go and choose a car rental agency: the conditions and prices are about the same everywhere. Therefore, choose the one that you like more outwardly.
4) Now, if a car can be rented on every corner, then for those who do not have a driver's license, but who do not want to stomp on hot asphalt on foot, there are very few people who have a choice. I found the one and only place where you can rent a bike. Daylight (from 10-00 to 21-00) on a bike costs from 10 to 20 euros (depending on the bike). Cycling down Main Road is tough (due to the heavy traffic that led to my third visit to the doctor), but getting to “decent” beaches is just the thing.
5) Natural cosmetics are sold everywhere, but the lowest prices (in any case, according to my observations) are in a shop on Main Road not far from the church (if you stand facing it, 10 meters to the right).
6) With souvenir shops - the same situation as with natural cosmetics: they are everywhere and differ little in the standard set of souvenirs. The only thing I recommend in this case: if you are in Santorini, it is better to choose souvenirs there. Yes, they are a little more expensive there, but they are very beautiful.
7) If you decide to buy something edible to take home (nuts, olives, sweets, etc. ), it is better to choose some large chain supermarket: firstly, everything is somewhat cheaper in it than in open shops on street, and secondly, everything you need is collected in one place . .

8). There are many places in the city where you can make cool prints on a T-shirt or T-shirt. Although this service is somewhat cheaper with us, for some unknown reason I ordered 3 T-shirts there. The price of the service (together with a T-shirt / T-shirt) is from 7 to 15 euros. If the print is not standard, they can take more.
nine). If you are not me, and you want to cut circles around the city, you can use a small train on wheels, which provides short (40-50 minutes) sightseeing tours of the city. There are several train departure points. It costs such a dubious pleasure (personally, I see no reason to pay for such wheels) 10 euros.
