Some information about renting a car in Crete is in the photos - approximate classes and prices. I took in Crete (Malia) in July 2010, a local office, Kia picanto, for 6 days 120 euros. I talked with people from Russia, some took 93 euros for 3 days, others 50 euros for a day, cars of the same class. The price depends on your desire to bargain, spend your time on "analysis" and preparedness (you need to know the terminology and subtleties of insurance). The cars are all initially insured, so everything you pay extra goes as a margin to the owner. Unleaded 95 gasoline costs 1.56 euros / liter. DT 12.5 euros / liter. International rights were not needed, 5 minutes to conclude an agreement, a short story about the filling of the car and your keys. And you are free as a bird! As for the hotel, 100 meters from the beach, across the road and other hotels, but not annoying. The staff is poorly responsive to requests, ants run in the bathroom. It is more like a personal home, with the usual flaws. There is no pathos and glamor there, but all the conditions for life, TV, shower, linen are changed every 3 days, air conditioning is free, food is 80% the same for 10 days, not very high quality. Soy meat and diluted drinks.
