My mother and sister stayed at the hotel. Review from mom.
When choosing a hotel, we were guided, first of all, by the price. We also wanted a sandy beach, a green hotel area with palm trees and a short distance from the airport. There was a fear that a 2-star hotel could overshadow the rest. But we decided because we read good reviews about this hotel. The reviews turned out to be true.
We were very pleased with our stay. For little money we have good living conditions, free Wi-Fi, there were no problems with it, I even caught it in the room. The overwhelming majority of the guests were Russians. The staff does not speak Russian, they explained themselves with the help of short English phrases. At our request, we were given a room on the second floor with a view of the mountains and the pool. The room turned out to be spacious, about a third larger than the double room in a 4-star hotel in Turkey in Side. the setting is modest, without frills. The room can accommodate 3 people. There is a double bed. The room is designed for a couple with a child. Bed linen starched from white dense cotton. The furniture in the room is not new, but in good condition. Lighting is weak. Immediately after checking in, a receptionist came to our room on his own initiative and showed how the door to the balcony closes and which button turns on 1 channel of Russian TV in Russian and the BBC channel in English. The bathroom fixtures are old but everything worked fine. There was always hot water. After turning it on for a couple of minutes, it flowed cool, then went hot. Hairdryer not provided, bring your own hair dryer and shampoo. There is a small refrigerator in the room. There are no dishes. We didn’t eat in the room, but ate on the balcony, there are a plastic table and two chairs. The balcony is separated from the neighbors by a wall. There are small ants on the balcony. Too bad there are no clothes dryers. The air conditioner hangs directly above the bed. We did not use it, because. there was no need for it - the room was corner and was in the shade. We did not see mosquitoes in Crete. The contingent of vacationers in the hotel was calm. At 23:00 there was complete silence. Cleaning in the room was done daily, except Sunday, with high quality.

For breakfast every day the set of products is the same. Delicious thick Greek yogurt with fine liquid Cretan honey. Food can be taken without restriction. We ate for breakfast and did not want to eat until lunch.
The pool is very good, the water in it is clear, running, no smell of bleach and warm. There are enough sun loungers around the pool. You can also swim when it gets dark. There are tables and chairs by the pool. There is a toilet next to the pool, you don't have to go up to the room. And there is an outdoor shower. There are few umbrellas by the pool.
The hotel staff is attentive, on the penultimate day, a leaflet with a printout of the return flight was brought to our room. In general, we recommend the hotel - normal conditions for budget money. For a similar room in a guest house in Sochi in the Olympic Village with new furniture and a flat-screen TV, but without a pool and no food at all, we paid more.
The beach closest to the hotel, if you walk from the hotel straight down the road for about five minutes, we were not impressed. The first day after arrival, a strong wind blew and big waves on the sea. Since it was scary to swim in the sea that day, we walked along the seashore, starting from the beach of the 5-star hotel Apollon, to the center of the village of Amoudara. Of all the beaches we saw, we liked the beach between the Santa Marina Resort and Eden Beach more than others. The Greeks themselves come to this place to rest. Clean coarse sand. At the bottom there are single stones, similar in relief to pumice. They swam in special bathing slippers. The depth is good and the entrance is convenient, at the water's edge there is a narrow strip of small pebbles. It is possible to use a shower with fresh water. But there was no toilet. We constantly went to this beach, although it was far from our hotel. We walked to the beach along St. Andrea Papandreou walk 20 minutes one way. The sea water is clean and warm enough. You can sit in the water for a long time and not freeze. When the waves, the sea is noticeably colder. Planes took off directly over the sea, but the roar of the engine was not heard.

Amoudara is a small village that can be walked in just over an hour. You should not choose to rest here if you are lovers of noisy parties. you will be bored here. The big minus of Amoudara is that there is no promenade along the sea, as, for example, in the city of Rethymnon.
In the evening we went to the cafe "Maxim". We liked it very much, tasty, satisfying, I recommend. But "The Mill" is not at all the same. More expensive than in Maxim, the service is not up to par and the quality of the food is worse.
We went to Heraklion on our own on the blue bus 6. The bus stop is next to the hotel, walk 1 minute. Buy bus tickets in advance from the supermarket across the street from the hotel. Travel time to Heraklion is 30 minutes. The buses are new and air-conditioned. In many places on the streets there are racks with a map of the streets of the city. In Heraklion there is a museum of dinosaurs, children will be interested. Over Heraklion there is a roar from taking off planes. Loved the archaeological museum. After a recent restoration, the halls of the museum look modern, excellent lighting compared to Russian museums. Very cold air conditioners, you can freeze. An amazing collection of Cretan antiquities. All significant artifacts of the Minoan culture are collected exactly here! Including here are the original frescoes from the Palace of Knossos. The inscriptions on the exhibits are in Greek and English. The audio guide is not available in any languages. There are no guided tours either. Misunderstanding of the inscriptions reduced, of course, perception. The ticket is expensive, 10 euros. But the museum is worth the money.
We bought an excursion to the island of Spinalonga for 22 euros from the Greek travel agency of Amoudara. It turns out cheaper to buy an excursion from them than to take from our guide. And the tour was well organized, you can feel the influence of the European Union. Do not be afraid to take excursions, they do not deceive. We drove past Hersonissos and Malia, caught a glimpse of what they look like. There was a Russian speaking guide. And also repeated in English and German. We made a 1.5 hour stop in Agios Nikolaos, 70 kilometers east of Heraklion. The city is fabulously beautiful. No wonder it is called the Greek Monaco. We climbed the steep stairs to the rock and admired the scenery from above. The city has a large lake. You need to return to the bus at the time the guide said. Those tourists who did not come on time, did not wait, went further through Elounda to the village of Plaka. There, our group was quickly loaded onto a boat that took them to Spinalonga. We did not want to sail there, and we spent these 1.5 hours wonderfully on the pebble beach of Plaka. The pebbles are gray and very large. The beach has a wooden deck for the passage and an old dressing room. The place is very picturesque, the water is absolutely transparent and every stone at the bottom is visible. We arrived in Plaka around 2 pm. The tour turned out not how much not tiring, although the distance was covered a long way. The roads are good, the serpentine met a water spot. The bus picked up from Amoudara at 08:05, and returned back at 18:30.

Then they themselves went to Rethymno. It is 80 km west of Heraklion. First we got by bus to the bus station of Heraklion. There you need to cross the road and go to the bus station building and buy a ticket to Rethymnon for 8 euros. Drive 1.5 hours. The bus is very comfortable, new, air-conditioned. The city of Rethymnon is a resort town, large, noisy, there is a park and a long promenade along the sea with rows of palm trees. We walked around the center in a labyrinth of pretty narrow streets with old buildings in the Venetian style. Let's go to the fortress of Fortezza, it stands on a high hill and is visible from anywhere in the city. The entrance is hard to find. It costs 4 euros. The fortress offers a majestic view of the city and the sea. We decided to swim in the sea on the beach of Rethymno. Near the port there is a bay where in any weather there are no waves under the protection of a long pier. Liked the beach. Wide strip of fine yellow sand. The beach is well equipped, there are modern wooden changing rooms and showers with fresh water, a large number of sun loungers with umbrellas. There are a lot of people on the beach. The sea is shallow, waist deep. The water is clean and very clear. and because of the shallow water, the water is much warmer than in Amoudara, just like fresh milk. For small children, swimming here is better than you can imagine. From there they stomped on their own back to the Rethymno bus station. The bus to Heraklion had just left and we sat waiting for the next flight for over an hour.
We regretted that we did not buy an excursion in Amudar at a local travel agency. It would have cost us less to travel. We concluded that tickets for public intercity buses with transfers are more expensive than travel agencies offer. Yes, much more convenient and not as tiring as we drove ourselves. They will pick you up from the hotel, take you away, show you and tell you, no need to wander, they will deliver you back.
Now about the shops. We went to Gazi to the hypermarket "Chalkidikis". It is 40 minutes walk from the hotel through the bridge to the right along the street. On September 3, after 25 minutes, there is a good confectionery (zaharo plastia) at the house with a pharmacy to the left up to the administration across the square. There is a huge selection of cakes, cookies, there are cakes, ice cream and bread. Then go along the main street of the village straight to the end. In "Chalkidikis" a large selection of Cretan cheese, cow, goat and sheep in a refrigerated display case. The saleswoman cuts off a piece of cheese from the head and gives it a try. We did not like the Cretan factory dry white wine, it seemed too sour. Red wine is much better. At the opposite end of the hotel, if you walk along the street. Andrea Papandreou until the end of about an hour on foot, there will be a hypermarket. There, prices are slightly lower than in the resort area of the village and the choice of products is larger. We bought ripe watermelons and peaches in June. Cherries are expensive and watery. Tomatoes are red on the outside but white on the inside. Apricots are hard. Bottled water and local canned beer were taken from the supermarket opposite the hotel, so that it was not far to carry.
I would be glad if the information is useful to someone.
