The pilgrimage service is 30 meters from the hotel. You need to come to the port of Ouranoupoli with a special permit - it is called diamonitirion. They give it only to men and boys, because. the path to Athos is closed to women. It is better to order permission to enter the monastic state in Moscow. We ordered on Prospekt Mira in the Mouzenidis company. This is a Greek company that develops programs for pilgrims. The hotel is very good, next to the sea a hundred meters away. The water is clear and the fish swim. We ate in taverns in the town. Not cheap, but not expensive either. It is difficult to call Ouranoupoli a city - a village that can be walked in 15 minutes. It was not boring at the Pyrgos hotel: my son and I played billiards, volleyball, rented a motorcycle. St. Athos struck, but this is not a story for everyone.

The hotel is not luxurious, but modest at all. Fairly traditional. There is no additional charge for air conditioning, as in some hotels. The most striking thing is the very hospitable host, who himself is always there. A very homely feeling... and indeed! Halkidiki! What could be better? !

We stayed at the hotel in March 2008. The hotel is small but very clean and comfortable. The location in Ouranoupolis is the best for a trip to the monastic state of Athos. Directly opposite is the office for issuing permits to visit Mount Athos. Near the pier, from where ferries leave for Athos. Our colleagues, who were in other hotels, almost missed the ferry, because in the morning you need to quickly issue a permit - "diamotirion", and buy a ticket for the ferry.

Our colleagues, who were in other hotels, almost missed the ferry, because in the morning you need to quickly issue a permit - "diamotirion", and buy a ticket for the ferry. In the hotel: TV, shower, balcony, everything is very simple and tidy. Breakfast is simple: eggs, cottage cheese, sausage, jams, coffee-tea-milk. Enough for pilgrims. There are many taverns near the hotel with very tasty and inexpensive country food. Liked the little octopuses and cuttlefish. In general, pilgrims stay in this hotel mainly for one or two nights before leaving for Athos. To get "diamotirion" you need to call the monks of our Russian monastery of St. Panteleimon in advance and they will sign you up for "diamotirion". Only men, women on Athos are not and never will be. Permission is granted for 5 days. All these 5 days you can live in our Russian monastery (there is only one on Mount Athos), or visit different monasteries, the Greeks let you in each monastery for one night for free, give you an overnight stay and a meal. Worth the trip. Russians are treated well, kindly. We liked.
