From the airport of Herakion on the transfer we arrived in 1.5 hours.
The town is quiet mainly for middle-aged couples or pensioners (German pensioners have a lot of rest! ), who do not need to go to discos, but the sea without waves is important (when it is very stormy in other places, it is always quiet here in the bay). Walk 3-4 minutes to the beach. You can walk to the peninsula on foot, there is a walking promenade along the sea.
But in principle there is one disco nearby called Katafigio - good equipment, there is Russian music - but there are no people at all. Therefore, if the desire to dance appears, then you can dance until you drop and the DJ will put on music only for you, and for optimism and a good dance you will be presented with a free soft drink, and the waitress will teach you how to dance sertaki.

The hotel does not have its own territory, but the entrance from it is from the street (on the same side there is a buffet where they served breakfast in the morning) and to the embankment to the Calidon restaurant - we had dinner in it. Opposite the hotel there are Internet cafes and shops of local needlewomen. On the same main street there are many souvenir shops, closer to the beach there are a huge number of cafes. Greek coffee costs 1.5 -2.5 euros, Greek salad 4-5 euros (large portion! ), Hot dish 6-9 euros. There are 7 supermarkets (this is what they call small shops with a varied assortment). Car rental can be booked directly at the hotel, calmly and without problems.
Normal number. But when the windows face the street, it’s noisy from 6 in the morning, as large buses and occasionally trucks pass by, but then you get used to it a little... Although it’s better to book a room overlooking the sea or the courtyard in advance (but then there is no table and chairs on the balcony). A rather small room for taking a shower, but apparently that's why the hotel belongs to 2 stars, otherwise it would have been quite drawn to 3.
Friendly hostess Maria and her little Russian-speaking assistant Seka always responded to any requests and questions. With a long-distance telephone card, calls were allowed directly from the room (card for 5 euros with an erasable code). The room was cleaned well. Towels and linen changed as needed.
At the restaurant, dinner was served by a Russian-speaking waiter. In my opinion, for a 2-star food is very good, half board. Breakfast is modest, but very neatly served: fresh bread and muffins are covered with napkins, cheese and sausage are added as they are eaten. There were also corn flakes, milk, juice, three types of jam, coffee, tea, sometimes yogurt with honey - in principle, it was enough until dinner. Dinner at a restaurant with a waiter. Large portions: first a hot appetizer (such as green beans) or mashed soup, then a salad (alternating by day: tomatoes with onions, cucumbers with herbs, cabbage with carrots) and the main hot dish: meat, meatballs, fish or moussaka. A also dessert or fruit. We ate a lot of it. And half a liter of local wine costs 4.5 euros in a restaurant. Russian-speaking waiter Akim always served cheerfully and could also tell about local specialties or shops, for which many thanks to him.

The water in the sea is very clean, the sea is always calm. The sand is coarse greyish, at the entrance to the sea in some places there are stones, but you can always find a sandy entrance nearby. Sun loungers and umbrellas for 2 euros, money is collected at 12 o'clock and at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Therefore, in the morning and in the evening you can always lie down for free. And if you paid, but you want to go for lunch, feel free to leave a towel on the sunbed, no one will pick up and take the sunbed.
Good hotel for those who don't like crowds. Who comes to rest not to sit on the territory of the hotel, but only to spend the night in it. An excellent sea for those who want to swim every day and do not like strong waves.
Good service. Pleased with the presence of Russian-speaking staff.
We took a car for 3 days (ordered directly at the hotel) - from Elounda we went to Sitia and Vai (of all other cities it is much further), to Ierapetra, to Heraklion and the Palace of Knossos, to Rethymnon, to the Lassithi valley.
When renting a car, a map of the island is issued - you can navigate it without problems, although sometimes direction indicators are installed here almost in the turn itself. We covered 800 km in 3 days. Pretty good roads. Although the serpentine in some places is decent))) We didn’t take excursions, we preferred to wander around on our own. The smallest Fiat car cost us 85 euros for 3 days (with full insurance) + petrol 45 euros. She perfectly pulled 3 adults and developed speeds on the highway up to 120 km (don't forget to buckle up! )
We had a great vacation! But we do not advise young people to go to Elounda - it will be boring. Better to Malia or Chersonese, where life is in full swing.
