rest from 2nd to 16 August 2008

Travel time: 5 — 12 august 2008
My friend and I stayed at the Grand hotel Aston 4* from 2nd to 16th August 2008.

The hotel made a good impression on us: compared to hotels in Spain and Italy, it looks more solid - the rooms are more spacious, though without balconies. Room service is good, they clean it every day, a pleasant surprise in the evening is marmalade in a satin bag. Breakfast is quite varied compared to European hotels: yoghurts, pastries, several types of cookies, various types of cereal, toast, scrambled eggs or boiled eggs, cheese slices (2 types), ham, sausages, bacon, fruit salad, canned fruits (pears, prunes , pineapples, plums), on each table there were 3 types of confiture and honey. From drinks coffee, tea in assortment, cocoa, milk, just water, juices (3 types). So there are plenty to choose from. On the 7th floor there is a bar with an open terrace, a very picturesque view of Place Massena, where you can dine in the evening.

There is a swimming pool on the top floor, but visiting it is paid (we didn’t go ourselves, so we don’t know the cost). We used the laundry (dry cleaning) services at the hotel, do not leave money with the form for services (we left and the staff decided that it was a tip), payment is made after. In the hotel, the safe is located either in the suites, or you can use it at the reception if there is none in your room.
I want to warn you right away that the French are a rather arrogant people, at least in Nice, so don’t be surprised if you don’t get an answer on the street right away, and sometimes they can even walk by as if they didn’t listen to their appeal. Very quickly they determine that the Russians are walking in front of them, so you can hear “Russo” everywhere, but these are all trifles, if you do not pay attention to all this, then the rest is quite pleasant.
What shocked this sea most of all, never seen such a clean and gentle sea.
Due to the pebbles, there is no muddy water like on sandy beaches and the color of the sea is really azure. Everything is paid on the beaches, it is best to go around the coast and choose where the prices are more reasonable. The first time we went and paid for two sunbeds and one umbrella about 50 euros (for two people). The last time we went to different beaches, and the cost varied from 24 to 35 euros. Of course, you can go to a public beach and sunbathe on the pebbles, but I didn’t really like it, because there are a lot of people there, and the pebbles are not so comfortable for lying.
Our accommodation was based on breakfast, so we ate the rest of the time in cafes and restaurants. The food is quite varied, in eateries it is mainly chops and french fries. We leaned more towards salads and seafood. The cost turned out to be from 15 to 30 euros per person (seafood, usually served already with a side dish, a drink).
We ate a couple of times in the old town, as well as in a restaurant to the left of the entrance to the hotel and in the Amadeus cafe (located on the first lane after the Raukh casino, on the right side. The owners are Armenians and the woman speaks Russian quite well) .

Ice cream is sold everywhere, it is best to buy Italian ice cream - these are cafes and tents with the name "Pinocchio". If you want to buy some clothes for yourself, it is best to go to the large department stores on the main street, which runs perpendicular to Place Massena.
It is quite interesting to ride a steam locomotive around Nice, it costs only 7 euros, but it is very beautiful and informative. Be sure to go to the 19th century Negresco 5 * hotel - this is a local landmark, you can also visit the Chanticleer restaurant, just stock up on money - it's worth it.
You can take a ride from the local port on a small boat for a panoramic view along the coast, the captain will tell you where the famous villas are located, as well as to Saint-Tropez and the island of Corsica. You can also go to Antibes to the water park.
Of the excursions, it is better to take only the night Monaco Monte Carlo, in addition to going to the Casino (for a casino it is better to dress appropriately), you will also see fireworks. You can get to the rest of the cities by train yourself, there is a tram from Place Massena to the station (15 minutes by train to Antibes, 25 minutes to Cannes, 45 to Monaco, and 1 hour to San Remo). For lovers of long trips - to Marseille - 2.5 hours.
All in all, an unforgettable vacation.
