Recreation center "Ruskeala" is a great place for travel lovers. The base is located 290 kilometers from St. Petersburg in close proximity to the Finnish border. Only 2 km. from the base is the main attraction of North Karelia - Mountain Park Ruskeala and the famous Marble Canyon. The recreation center was completely reconstructed in 2010, now there are 2 buildings. The third cottage will soon be put into operation.More →

I will write my review here, because I wrote in the contact group, I was blacklisted and the review itself was deleted! Apparently the administration, or the director of the base, does not like criticism, but only accepts positive feedback. Why are there positives and no negatives? I wrote a review for those who are going to rest at this base (it will be especially useful to read for those who are going to rest with small children !!! ), and perhaps the management of this camp site will take note of something! We rested with a company of 8 people + two children, one is 8 years old, the other is a baby, 2 years old from 12/31/015-01/3/2016.
As a rule, you need to start with the good, so I'll start with the pros:
1. This is the location. Super simple - 2 km from the mountain park. Nature is gorgeous. It is located far from the highway, which allows you to relax and enjoy the beauty and breathe in plenty of air. At the base, if you go down there is a lake.
2. It's food. Special thanks to the chef, it’s so delicious that you just lick your fingers! ) It can adapt to you in time, when you need to cook food for you and if necessary, you can take it to your room without any problems)
3. This is a bath! Located on the lake. Some of our company went to the bathhouse and even dived into the hole) They said super! The sauna itself, on wood, is very warm)
4. Banquet. It was just super, fun, noisy, rested. The room itself was warm, even hot. The kids liked Santa Claus, they were delighted. Thank you for organizing a congratulation from Santa Claus and for making it possible for him to give gifts to children. Lots of contests, lots of giveaways.
On this, perhaps, all the pluses ended. The most interesting begins. The cons of our holiday, and they turned out to be much more than the pros.
1. Light! We arrived at about 17.00 pm, the banquet, as we were told at the administration table from 22.00. As soon as we arrived, after a couple of minutes the administrator called and said that they had to turn off the light!! ! Super! I know it's not her fault. In general, the light was turned off not for a long time, but the very fact that there was not much time left for the analysis of bags, fees for the New Year's banquet upset us. The light was turned off for a maximum of 15 minutes, as soon as we all got ready to go around the rooms and get ready, as we just started some kind of light show. The light went out endlessly, then lit up, and so every 5 minutes, or even less. Calling the administrator, we were told that "We will come now, we will take the heaters from everyone and then you will be with the light! " That is, they did not solve our problem!
This is where the second downside comes from.
2. Heating! Having paid for all accommodation and meals, we went to the rooms. (My husband and I knew two of our booked rooms, because we made an advance payment directly by arriving in advance and inspecting the hostel and rooms on the spot, so as not to meet the new year with sour faces). Entering the house where our rooms were located, we were simply shocked!! ! For those who are going to go in the winter with children, I do not advise! ! The rooms are terrible, no, not cold, dubak !! ! In the corridor, where we were offered to sit and chat, just steam poured out of our mouths! Frozen so that on January 1, a child of 2 years old with snot and cough! Here we come home and we will be treated intensively. It was necessary to take money from the administration for treatment, otherwise everything is paid for at the base, up to the barbecue, but how to freeze people and, most importantly, CHILDREN, so sorry! They touched the pipes, they were terribly cold, so they concluded that the heating was turned off not only today, but for a couple of days, at least the house was not heated! We went to the administrator, to which we were given the answer "the heating was done literally yesterday, but something was done wrong there, since they are Karelians, they are constantly drinking! They will come HERE_HERE (this word has been heard very often! ) And they will fix everything! " Ok . They gave heaters (which, as I wrote above, due to a constant interruption in the light, they threatened to take them away so that the light would not go out! ) As a result, on the first day from 31 to 1 we slept in a terrible cold, we didn’t even change the child into pajamas, so in warm tights and a warm jacket and slept! What was the administration thinking about when they initially knew that a large flow of people was coming to them for the holiday and did not prepare the house in advance? ! Do you have heating that broke just about? Right in two
04.01. 16
minutes before our arrival? I think this is nonsense! And no respect for those who paid money to VAam and goes to rest! Would you like to take a shower? What are you speaking about? ! It’s not just that you can’t go to the shower, undress to swim, you don’t want to go to the toilet there, it’s terrible cold! As a result, for three days, everyone was not bathed, except for those who went to the bathhouse!
3. Hot water. Everyone knows the problem and here we are overtaken. Interruptions with hot water constant! just kind of creepy. Do you know how cool it is to brush your teeth with cold water? ! Not? And we know! Administrators and, most importantly, the director of the base, do you also wash your face with cold water at home, bathe in cold water? It’s not just a camp site, but a base for hardening the people! Thank you! Caring! I am for a healthy lifestyle, but these are too harsh conditions! I paid, not for that. Other than that, like everyone else.
4. Nutrition. I will clarify, not food, but rather the forgetfulness of the administrator. Here is January 2, tomorrow we go home, everything seemed to be going well, a day without an emergency. On January 3, we go to the canteen, and then pack up and leave. and what was my surprise, indignation and just sorry, boiling over, for all the days Anger! The chef tells us, sorry, the administrator did not order for your two rooms. You didn't pay for food! Hello, we've arrived. We called the administrator, to which she replied "I'll be right there! ". We waited for 15 minutes, due to the fact that the baby was small, caught a cold, was naughty, there was no time to wait, they called again, her husband was already talking, to which she replied "I'm coming to you! " The truth came quickly, I was already sitting with painted every penny that we paid them. And then she, the administrator, comes in and says "Everything is fine! Feed them! " She left without apologizing. Although before that, the poor cook, who was tormented by thoughts about how to feed people, because she cooked for a certain number of people, told us that she would feed us and we would not remain hungry. But we answered her that the point is not whether she will feed or not, why then take money from people for everything, if there is no accounting! If you forget half?!
5. First-aid post and doctor. This is a huge problem!! ! It is simply NOT there! So again, if you are going to the Ruskeala Base, take the entire first-aid kit with you, and even more so for adults and children! (Thank God for the baby, I loaded all the first-aid kit that I had at home, it turned out not in vain). It so happened that one girl from our company became ill. The side hurt sharply, and then I also felt sick. We started calling the administrator, because there was no one on the spot, they didn’t pick up the phone, they called another number, there the guy answers all the time, and he didn’t pick up the phone. Yes, it was January 1st. But! We have an emergency, we don’t even know where to turn, even how to call an ambulance and whether there is one at all. In general, we went to the hospital on our own, at our own peril and risk, because. We don't know where the nearest hospital is! In general, we got through and then found the administrator, somehow figured out we called an ambulance, before that saying “The hospital doesn’t work there”, “You won’t find a doctor there, on January 1, after all”... For this, the only time I can say thank you administrator! In general, the ambulance arrived all right. I'm just wondering, there are different situations, different people come, you had a lot of people with small children, and if someone, God forbid, broke his leg? How can he go to the hospital himself, look for where you can find a hospital, where he will be received on a holiday? I think this is a huge downside! Just creepy. . .
6. Numbers. There is no livelihood in the rooms! All that is there is some kind of hanger, a bed, and if you are offered a double room with separate beds and say "They move and become a double bed" do not agree! Terribly simple! Moved!! ! And as a result, in the middle there is a large hole between them, and most importantly, their height is different! One is lower, the other is higher! Slept like I don't know what. In principle, this is all the equipment of the room. We also had a table in a two-room suite and two whole ones ! ! chair! Thank you! Where do we put things? In general, for three days we led a pact-bag life! It's terribly inconvenient. Especially when you are eating
one.
This seems to be all, my entire review, or rather recommendations for those who want to visit this camp site. I believe that if the director treated with respect and valued his clients, then all these disadvantages could be removed! And so. From the trip, we only have a bunch of snot, sorry, which are hard to treat in kids, colds in adults and a lot of negativity from the administrator! If you do not value this place so much, then it is better not to do it! Many people go there for the first time, not for 5 km, but for thousands, to visit a beautiful place! How do you welcome guests? Super easy! 5 points to you! I understand that there is no special meaning from my review, but I never wrote them, but here I couldn’t stand it, it just boiled over and there were more negatives than pluses! I understand that the review will be deleted, or lowered, due to new entries. But I kept my word and wrote a review! Honestly, we didn't even leave without saying goodbye. such treatment that they will even return... we will think about it... but I think if we come, it will be only in the summer, when there will be no problems with heating, light, because there will be no heaters and other troubles! And so. WE paid for a double room 2800 and 4500 for a two room. I think this place is not worth the money! 1000 ceiling price of such a holiday! Like a bed in a hostel, that's all! You are charged for everything, but you yourself do not want to invest in this database. Meals came out at us 1000 per person (breakfast-lunch-dinner) - here it is worth the money! Very filling, tasty and lots of variety. I hope that my review will help to avoid many disappointments.

August 2015. Planned to see the waterfalls of Karelia. First stop in Ruskeala. A tiny village with a population of just over 100 people.
The so-called "room" was booked in advance for three people. They promised a microwave, a kettle, etc. They demanded an advance payment of 30%. Immediately advice! Don't book multiple days. Take one. Afterwards,
if everything suits you, extend. We booked two nights. So! It turned out that this base is a former pioneer camp, a little "shamanistic", otherwise, everything is as it was before, if anyone remembers.
Room - approximately 10 sq. m. , rectangular, three beds, a table, two bedside tables, three hooks on the wall, two "dead" coat hangers, a mirror. Everything! Corridor system. Microwave, kettle, one cooler for the whole room. Rooms
about 15 pieces. All this is located in the administration building. There are rooms opposite the toilet. The corridor ends with a dining room where you can eat for money. They cook well, but you need to order in advance. Choice
not big. The toilet, the washbasin is shared. The rooms have heating. For all this "high" they ask 1000-1300 for a bed. There are other VIP houses.
All this is available only for money, 150 hours. The bath, they say is good, was not. In case of refusal, the money is not returned. (This is about booking several days) The territory is sufficient. I think there is a reason
Stay with a tent. The staff, at the reception, heard himself how they took the order, the nightingale sings about amenities, microwave, electric kettles, etc.
In the vicinity of the base, there are many guest houses for rent from private individuals. The price is cheaper and the comfort is better.
Conclusion: If there is no way out, then the Ruskeala base. Look for places to stay on Karelian websites.

There are heat fans in the room - the first night was enough, then it got cold to -10, they put the second one on and it was warm, even hot. The shower room with toilets is also warm. It was cold only in the hallway. Mattresses are quite normal. We were comfortable sleeping. I don’t understand people who complain, having arrived at a budget recreation center, that they lack something.

Of the minuses, this is the road from St. Petersburg to the base. After Priozersk, about 60 km, we drove 20 km / h and our poor car (((.
We returned back through the Lodeyka field, 180 km more, but the road is normal (but there are a lot of dangerous turns before the lodeyka). Some people go through Finca.

Well, here is something useful for those who are going to come to the base:
You can still eat at the Kirko cafe (opposite the school, a small cafe), there is a buffet 250r per person, the food is delicious

in the building "Finnish school" in room 7 - a double family room.
Having left Sosnovo (approximately 60th km of the Priozerskoye highway) at 9-30 in the morning and driving non-stop, we arrived at the base just in time for dinner - by 14-00. I must say that without the scheme that we were given when buying a ticket, we would not have figured out the road - there are no signs to the village of Ruskeala and the Marble Quarry. It is necessary to turn left to Vartsila and go straight to the signs for the base.
The base is quite small - two buildings - wooden houses with numbers. The room is very clean, neat, everything is made of wood.
In our room there was: a bed, two chairs, a table, two bedside tables, two hangers, a sheet, a blanket, 2 pillows, two towels, a rug. The window looked out on the forest, on the site, which by the evening was occupied by tent lovers, but this did not interfere at all - we only ate and slept at the base.
There is a fridge and microwave in the hallway. The shower and toilet are shared (male and female separately), at the end of the corridor. There are washing machines and a sink in the toilet room.
The shower is a little strange, but hot and powerful, one common for men and women (you can lock it up and splash around in peace).
The dining room is located in the Finnish School - small, with a kitchenette. Everything is very tasty, cozy, family-friendly.
For lunch they gave soup, mashed potatoes, chicken, salad with crab sticks, vegetables, bread, compote.
For dinner: vegetables, meat, buckwheat, vegetables, compote, salad.
For breakfast: tea - coffee, yogurt, eggs, rice porridge, cheese, sausage, butter, bread, banana.
Boiling water and tea and coffee are paid (if additional). At the dining room there is a small stall-refrigerator with juices, water and alcohol. There is time for independent use of the dining room.
The base is located on the shores of Lake Khanki - the water is clean, transparent, ducks swim at the pier, there is a bathhouse, sports equipment rental... But we didn’t take anything, we had no time for that.
3 km from the base is the Marble Canyon - the place because of which everyone comes to Ruskeala. A stunningly beautiful place. Entrance for students 100r, and for adults 300. Be sure to join the tour - it is very interesting to listen and see old photos), and when the route ends, you can walk in the opposite direction (there is only one route). You can also take a boat - 200 rubles and swim as one or four. Take a bun with you and feed the ducks, but not the seagulls - they will immediately start screaming and flying threateningly low.
You can also ride in a zorb, bungee jump. . .
The place is amazingly beautiful.
The path is sandy - you can go in sandals, but in sneakers it is more convenient to jump over the rocks and climb everywhere.
At the entrance to the park, there are numerous stalls with souvenirs - wooden crafts, magnets, water bottles (350r) (very beautiful), Christmas decorations... There is something to stare at and what to buy.
Also, not far from the base there are waterfalls on the Tohmajoki River (a scene from the movie "The Dawns Here Are Quiet" was filmed here).
Neat gazebos, a place for a barbecue, you can swim (you can’t swim in the canyon), climb a waterfall.
Numerous grannies offer berries - blueberries, raspberries, ice cream and mushrooms. A half-liter jar of ice cream jam costs 400 rubles, a small glass of live berries costs 150 rubles.
There is also a large waterfall with a hydroelectric power station on the Tohmajoki River, but the hydroelectric power station was closed for repairs.
Also next to the base there is a Kirkha, and behind it the foundation of the old Kirkha is hidden - it is interesting to see. Kirche has a hospitable house, an organ, a prayer hall, and a kitchen.
Sortavala is located 30 km from the base. We visited it on the second day of the trip after the boat ride. Using the guidebook, we walked around all the sights in 3-4 hours. Be sure to go to Pevcheskaya Gora in the park - a wonderful view opens from the observation deck.
The rest itself at the base + 3 meals a day for two cost us 4.400, if I'm not mistaken (+ - 200 rubles). + Entrance tickets to the park 100 and 300, boat 200, ice cream 150 + 400, souvenirs: magnets 100r * 2, a lid 350, a bell in the form of a hare 190 and gasoline. Gasoline is somewhat cheaper than in St. Petersburg.
Expensive in Karelia, it is very beautiful, but difficult - serpentine, slides, there is no asphalt in three sections - a dirt road, which is often processed by a grader - you can drive along it even after a downpour (there was a downpour on the way back) and not on an SUV (we drove a Chevrolet Lacetti So you should not be afraid of the road. If you have more time, you can also visit the museums on the way - Kiryazh, Winter's Dacha, Lars Sonka Museum.
Good luck!
