Ugly, sad from the sight of old buildings that have not been restored, and almost dull in the historical center because of all this. There were no interesting events in the city center on New Year's Eve. It will be boring if you don't have your own entertainment plan before and after New Year's Eve. The crowds of aimlessly loitering tourists were especially struck on January 1st. There is nowhere to go especially and nowhere on the first day of the new year: museums are closed, in some cafes or restaurants, perhaps.
