We were in Thailand for the second time, the first time on Koh Samui in September 2011. Compare about. Phuket and about. Koh Samui is a separate conversation, but in short, in our opinion, Koh Samui, of course, wins (this also applies to prices, the quality of average hotels, and the number of Russian tourists, etc. ). At the Karon Whale Resort, there is no need to look for shortcomings, they can be seen immediately.
Of these: a small territory, a paid safe in the room for 50 baht per day, no hair dryer, paid WI-FI for 50 baht per hour, the most monotonous breakfasts - nothing new has appeared in 12 days, every day is the same and not very big range (on Koh Samui, also in a 3-star for 15 days of rest, breakfast was not at all tired, there was free Internet, a hairdryer, a safe in the room, a chic area with access to the sea).
From the pros: cleanliness in the rooms, a good pool with sunbeds, which were always enough, friendly staff, parking for bikes, prices for minibar products in the room are only a couple of baht higher than the store ones.
To the sea about 5-7 minutes on foot, there are many cafes of different levels and cuisines around, shops, a market 10 minutes away, which is open on Tuesday and Saturday, fruit stalls, offices selling all kinds of excursions with good discounts (by no means ! ! Do not buy excursions at the airport or on the way from it. A taxi driver brought us to a travel agency on the way from the airport, supposedly in order to sign the statement, and at that time the girl tried to frankly sell us an excursion to the Phi Phi Islands for 3900 baht per person, enticing us with a free taxi transfer from the hotel to the airport and scaring us with the fact that for the next week all the places for these excursions are sold out. Near the hotel across the road, we bought this excursion for 1200 baht per person and went the next day! )

The hotel as a whole would be rated a solid 3 plus. There was not enough Russian-speaking staff (at least at the reception). They cleaned the rooms normally, the breakfasts are good (everything corresponds to the price). We saw lizards, ants and a rat. Sea, cafes, market nearby. We ate at Femeli, Red Onion and Kais cafes.

They cleaned the rooms normally, the breakfasts are good (everything corresponds to the price). We saw lizards, ants and a rat. Sea, cafes, market nearby. We ate at Femeli, Red Onion and Kais cafes. I liked the last one the most, they cook sharks, barracudas on the grill for only 300 baht per fish. Tried the food in the market. Sushi sucks (even when they were being packed for me, as luck would have it, two cockroaches fell from somewhere on the visor of their tray). Nothing chicken (half of the carcass costs 85 baht). Vouchers for excursions were taken on the streets. They were impressed by Simon's transvist show (chic costumes, decorations, everything without vulgarity, professionally), the child also liked it, there was even one Russian song. Take the usual places, not the VIP, they will put you in the usual ones anyway. I liked the trip to Patong, we went to the show for adults. It's good that I read reviews earlier on the Internet. Entrance to the nightclub is free (there will be many barkers with invitations), but when you come to the club you will be offered a menu where drinks will start at a price of 800 baht for a bottle of beer. You can bargain up to 300 baht. We went from a street agency to rafting, everyone liked it, especially quad bikes, a bungee (you must take it) and rafting itself. Elephant shows, rides and monkey shows are not very good (monkey and elephant shows can be watched for free, since everything takes place on the street and everyone is brought to the same place). While rafting, the child was bitten by a monkey, transport was promptly provided, taken to the hospital, and vaccinated against tetanus and rabies. in the evening you can swim in the hotel pool at least until 12 o'clock (it gets dark at 7, there is a warning that swimming after 8 pm is punishable by a fine). You can also bring your own food and eat at tables near the pool. I really liked pancakes with bananas and chocolate, bought from macarons.
In general, I would go to the Karon Weil hotel again.

Recently returned, I will try to be objective. hotel pluses: - located very close to the sea (although for Thailand, where all the beaches are municipal and going to the sea not far from everywhere is the norm) - Plenty of cafes nearby to eat - price (although, as practice has shown, it is not worth saving on a hotel) now the cons.

Recently returned, I will try to be objective.
hotel pluses:
- located very close to the sea (although for Thailand, where all the beaches are municipal and going to the sea not far from everywhere is the norm)
- Plenty of cafes nearby to eat
- price (although, as practice has shown, it is not worth saving on a hotel)
now the cons.
- The staff is really clueless and very lazy. to do something, you need to ask several times. the only plus for them is that everyone smiles (but does nothing at the same time). Came for breakfast, nowhere to sit and it was raining at night. I asked to wipe the table outside to sit down. the guy said "yeah yeah yeah". in the end they did nothing. scrambled eggs for breakfast could be ordered several times, they could not bring or bring something wrong. Well, in general, it's nonsense, but it's unpleasant on the little things.
The staff does not know English (by the way, there were fewer problems with this in shops and cafes, some speak very well, but here it’s as if they were specially recruited. At least one person at the reception should, after all, be able to explain themselves).
- the rooms are generally ok, but with a lot of bugs (dirty curtains, not very white towels, air conditioning that is not regulated and is desperately freezing, shabby furniture). moreover, that in a bungalow, that is so. the bungalow has a large room, there is an outdoor shower, a bathroom, a jacuzzi (by the way, they tried to turn on the jacuzzi - it worked with difficulty, we even had to fix it ourselves). but with towels the story is the same, and the furniture is shabby in some places. although, we must pay tribute - in general, the rooms in this hotel are quite normal.
- Absolutely disgusting service. On day 2 we were billed for a bottle of water in the minibar. I showed them this account and said that we did not take anything from there (and very politely and smiling). they promised to sort it out.
since the receptionist does not speak English, I had to explain several times. then, during the holidays, he came up to find out how the account was there (and at the same time to see if there were any new ones). 4 times I approached, 4 times they looked at me and said "ok, yes, but here is your number", eventually promising to figure it out. when leaving, I just had to pay this money so as not to make a fuss. the amount is small, 22 rubles, but it is simply unpleasant that they could not correct their mistake.
- food. for 2 weeks the assortment of breakfast did not change. It was sometimes very difficult to find a place to sit down. Well, there is nothing to say about wasps, birds and ants, this is perhaps nonsense, since the cafe in the hotel is located almost on the street.
- There were problems with the change of linen, I did not manage to understand the schedule, at some point I noticed spots, the linen did not change for several days.
Well, now the fun part. in the hotel we lived in 2 rooms, one of which was a bungalow.
a lizard lived behind the air conditioner, it did not bother anyone. but on the 3rd day at night a rat came into the room. moreover, she sat down at the TV just to eat in a completely businesslike way. in the morning food supplies were found there (cookies, crumbs, and not ours - the cleaners, apparently, did not look there). the inhabitants of the room were in shock, the TV was moved away so that at least they could clean up there. what is the result? right - the retracting girl just pushed the TV into place without removing anything : ) but the fun itself was later. when we said about the rat at the reception (the word rat had to be replaced with the word mouse because they didn’t understand otherwise), they set 2 traps in the room (they didn’t offer to move to another room, or something else, but in a simple way). we went out for dinner and after a couple of hours, when we returned, we asked how mouse was there. to which one of the Thais was delighted and immediately dragged a dead rat to show - "they say they caught it. "
(Let me remind you that the demonstration of a dead rat takes place at the hotel reception). the owner of the room, looking at the rat and the joyful Thai, answered philosophically "no, not mine. mine was more. " basically a curtain.
after that they screwed on a wooden plank (since the door is not completely flush with the floor). apparently, according to their plan, the rat would not have been able to jump over the plank. the hole remained, the rat did not enter the room, but she still had a passage into the bathroom.
In the end, I want to say that I would not go to this hotel again. after all, on vacation you want to relax, and not constantly think about what else will come from surprises. The hotel staff does not try to make the stay good. they just live their lives and try not to bother them too much.
By the way, I went to another beach (surin beach) to see friends - they paid 5 or 6 thousand (per person) more for the ticket, but the hotel was very good. because of this money for 2 weeks it is not worth saving so much.

We stayed at Karon Whale Resort Phuket 3* for two weeks. Good economy hotel - value for money. Good location, in the very center of Karon, 5 minutes walk from the beach, there are many cafes, restaurants, shops, market nearby. The hotel itself is small (there is practically no territory) but cozy, the staff is friendly, the breakfasts are normal, but of the same type, the cleaning of the rooms is not very good.

A hotel for those who are not going to spend their entire vacation by the pool, but so that they have somewhere to spend the night, take a shower, and then get lost on the island. There is nothing more to say about the hotel, a solid three-ruble note.
It was nice to receive a bonus from the hotel as a check-in in a bungalow instead of a paid superior, for this the hotel is only a plus that they try to do their best for their customers.
And Thailand itself, as always, fascinates, I want to go there again and again.........
