On Cayo Largo we rested at the Sol Cayo Largo hotel, this is really the best on the island, as we were promised. The room is cozy, no frills, everything is clean, cleaned every day, the staff is polite, friendly. We even had a hammock on the terrace, which was great to swing on, enjoying the beautiful view of the ocean from the room : ) And in the evenings there was even animation, but we got up early, so most often we didn’t wait and fell asleep to meet the dawn.

It is a pleasure to walk there, it seems that we are alone on the island, you walk through such picturesque beauty alone, you feel like in the Maldives, complete solitude with nature, amazing!

We chose this hotel because of the location. A very beautiful island, attracted by white beaches and I wanted to go there. There are not many hotels on the island itself, there is not much to choose from. The territory is well-groomed, quite large. Crabs of different types, there were quite large ones. The hotel has several restaurants, the food is more or less normal. There were no fresh salads (greens), very few fresh vegetables. But the meat is different enough. Fruit served seasonal - pineapple, mango, a couple of times papaya was on the table. Desserts are edible, but not "oh so delicious".
The rooms are good, though at first we were put in a room where the air conditioning did not work well. After a whole day of negotiations, in the evening they moved to another more expensive room with a sea view. No payment was required. The towels in the rooms are not very new, they were scuffed, and their color is slightly grayish. The smell of chlorine, seen in Cuba with fabric softener is a problem. Justifies their situation in the country as a whole, the lack of goods in stores. We lived three more days in Havana and encountered a little bit the ordinary life of the Cubans. The shops are empty, the streets are dirty. . .
The service is normal, the waiters want money, no one will just run around you.

The hotel offers a free shuttle service to the most beautiful beaches on the island. 15 minutes of travel on a diesel engine and you are in a place where you can take awesome photos! Walk 50 meters to the side and not a single living soul. By the way, part of the beach in the hotel is reserved for nudists.

A wonderful monitor lizard lived on the beach at the hotel, sometimes I was afraid to lower my legs from the sunbed : ). We went to other beaches, literally 15 minutes and Sirena beach, the best on the island. There are few Russians, mostly Canadians, Europeans. They rented a car, so that it would not depend on the "engine". I went to hotels for a massage, after Bali I was not particularly impressed. They're hacking! The animators are wonderful, they speak Russian poorly, but they try. The bartenders make delicious cocktails, the most delicious Pinot Colada on Sirena Beach.

I don’t advise flying with Martinair . . they haven’t come up with anything worse yet =) So everything in the bag with you, all the exercises, swimwear, a couple of T-shirts, shorts and creams. We spent 2 days in Havana and 3 more on the way back. Old Havana is a very beautiful city, saturated with the spirit of revolution. It is easy to navigate, everything is nearby, it is better to take a hotel in the center, we had Almadores de Santander, but I advise Telegrafo, although Santander is also very decent, in a colonial style. The main thing is to take everything with you, because there is practically nothing in Cuba, they are sooooo poor, but cheerful people. In Havana, be sure to check out La Bodeguita del Medio - a cult place loved by Hemingway.
Cayo Largo is a completely different story. The sea is striking in its color! The water is absolutely transparent, the sand is like flour, it does not heat up. The hotel is very pleasant, better than the neighboring Pelicano. Food . . well, for 4-ku with a minus. Lots of seafood, few fruits. Cocktails are great! the rooms themselves are spacious and comfortable, there were no problems. The beach is excellent, although there were often big waves, but apparently the time is like that.
If you go further to the wild beach, you can meet iguanas, we tamed one, Masha was waiting for us every morning and we brought her a bun and cheese, she lay on the sand next to us and it was great =) Pelicans fly very close. Everyone goes to swim at Sirenas Beach, a train takes them there, but you can take Jimmy's jeep or a scooter (you need a license, even for a scooter). Sirenas is a very beautiful beach. You can also swim with dolphins there, there is an amazing show, I strongly advise everyone!!!
Near the pier with yachts there is a small turtle farm, very interesting, you can swim with turtles there. on the other side, but also near the hotel, there is a farm with horses, a crocodile lives there. In general, on the island you need to sunbathe, swim and relax. A lot of tourists go for a few days to Varadero and + Cayo Largo... after Varadero, everyone spat and regretted that they didn’t spoil all the days on Cayo Largo.
During breakfast, lunch and dinner live music is played, very cool! ! In the evening, the show is very decent.
We, as young naturalists, also found out that from March to September, sea turtles come to the island to lay their eggs. If you go out to the beach at night, you can see an amazing sight!
From souvenirs of course cigars and rum. don’t be afraid to buy from your hands, we didn’t notice the difference, although my husband is an expert in this business =) And it’s better, of course, to go shopping yourself, and not where the guide will bring you. Black coral is nothing special. And the rum is great! =)

The Sol Cayo Largo Hotel is distinguished by its excellent hospitality, cordiality of the staff, magnificence of nature, luxurious snow-white beaches, azure sea with a variety of flora and fauna, modest but very comfortable spacious rooms, excellent cuisine (fresh juices for every taste are included in the price! , seafood for every taste ), entertaining animation program (unobtrusive and active) and simplicity carefree and hassle-free!! ! tourist environment from Canada, Austria, Poland. . Here we spent 6 days!
In 2008 we returned on the same dates (November) to spend our honeymoon here in Cayo Largo, in our favorite Cayo Largo Sol!
Today we recommend this hotel to friends and acquaintances and we ourselves will definitely return!
For reference: on the island in season 2-3.4 * hotels are working, the island itself can be driven around in a rented car in just 30-40 minutes. In addition to the beauties of the beach (there are no more beaches like this in Cuba!!! ), you can enjoy a trip to Iguan Island (on a yacht), as well as visit the Turtle Farm (10 min) from the Sol Cayo Largo hotel: meet newly born baby turtles and swim with Mary - turtle 120 years old, see different types of turtles. There is practically no nightlife on the island. The optimal number of days to stay on the island is 4-5. The flight is possible from Havana or Varadero (you can negotiate with the pilot of the aircraft and he will take you on board the ship : -), going in the direction you need: Havana or Varadero, if the tour agent does not have free seats or you change your mind about the point of arrival).
You can talk for hours more about this island and the hotel. But it's better to visit!
