At the beginning of summer, my husband and I bought a tour to the town of Calafell in Spain, to the 4R Miramar Calafell 3 * hotel at the travel agency "Come with us", the tourist operator TUI. We delved into the location, read the reviews, looked at what is around the hotel. The beach is located 50 meters from the hotel, from the photo and video we realized that it was clean and comfortable.

Hotel after renovation. Shops and cafes are very close. The railway station is 5 minutes from the hotel. Everything is great! A little later, our friends wanted to come with us. We started to find out if there were places in our hotel, it turned out that there were none and they found apartments, a day later they had a flight, but it suited us to spend a vacation in one city.
On September 20, we had a departure from Kyiv at 18.40 and we arrived at 21.30 in Barcelona. We went to the desk of our tour operator, named our names and we were sent to the transfer, which should take us to the hotel. We approached the bus, the driver asked which hotel we were going to, we answered which one we were, and he made round eyes and said that there was no such hotel on the list. Then they called the names, he looked again at the list and said that we were going to another hotel and to another town. Now we have round eyes. We thought we were just confused. He said that our guide would come up and everything would be resolved. The guide came and somehow, as if jokingly, said that we were lucky and we would get into a very good hotel, which has not three stars, but four. We said we better not need it, we need our hotel! She told us to get on the bus, she would come with us to the hotel and everything would be decided there.
My husband and I realized that we would check into our hotel, but we misunderstood! The first bus stop from Barcelona and our guide announces that we are in Coma Ruga and we must get off at a hotel called 4R Grand Europa. 12am. I fight in hysterics for the whole bus for about 10 minutes, I understand that this is some kind of scam. The husband calmly observes, understands that there are no options and he must go out. We left, we go with the guide to the hotel, she continues to tell that we were incredibly lucky. I'm very upset. . .
We were settled, and it immediately became clear how lucky we were! Repair was done on the right 20 years ago. Peeling walls, terrible tiles in the bathroom, mold in the seams. And so on. . .
We went out in the morning to the beach and were horrified, overgrown with grass with terrible thorns that dig into our legs. And 300 meters to the sea.
Shops that are more or less nearby, 15-20 minutes on foot.
Friends who flew the next day to Calafell were not very happy, to put it mildly.
We met the next day with the hotel guide, who told us that this happens! What did our hotel decide!
We then took a closer look and found that the hotel in Calafell and the hotel in Coma Ruga have a common name - 4R. Then everything became clear... We went on foot to friends in Calafell a couple of times. Walk from us to them, about 40-50 minutes. And I'll tell you Calafell is prettier, more modern resort town 100%!
There is a clause in the contract with the travel agency that says that neither the agency nor the tour operator is responsible for changing flights, changing hotels. . .
Blame the hotel, they say, without even explaining why. How can you do this with your clients?
Draw your own conclusions! Have a good rest, but not in hotels in the names of which there are - 4R.

Traveled with family in September. The hotel was recommended by a friend who had been here before. I liked absolutely everything! Location, room, food, attitude of the staff! The check-in was at night, but it went quickly, without any questions. The room has a fresh renovation, a huge terrace overlooking the sea, cleaning every day.

The check-in was at night, but it went quickly, without any questions. The room has a fresh renovation, a huge terrace overlooking the sea, cleaning every day. The food is excellent, a lot of seafood dishes, a large selection of good wines. Huge clean and uncrowded beach. There are many cafes on the waterfront where you can have a tasty and inexpensive meal. There are no noisy discos, everything is quiet and calm. Many thanks to the Russian-speaking girl Victoria at the reception, she helped with all questions, a very nice person. We plan to visit this hotel again this year.

Rested with family in late August - early September 2013. The hotel pulls on a dead 3 stars. Not 4 at all! Let's start with the bad: - In Gran Europe STEAL!! ! The money was put aside in a safe in a separate envelope “for later”. After 3-4 days they stuck their head in - but 300 euros is not enough! And there can be no mistake: they could not spend such an amount in the first days, and in general it is customary for us to keep records of funds to the last cent in a separate notebook.

Rested with family in late August - early September 2013. The hotel pulls on a dead 3 stars. Not 4 at all! Let's start with the bad:
- In Gran Europe STEAL!! The safe comes with a regular key, no combination lock.
To the complaint, as our guide explained to us (through whom we turned to the management), the hotel director rudely replied that he was tired of all these complaints about the loss (it means that we are not the first to be stolen from! ).
And in general - it is not surprising that valuable things disappear from people there. We observed several times how the cleaners leave the rooms open, while they themselves go to the back rooms for an additional tool.
- And the cleaning in the rooms leaves much to be desired, because it involves sweeping the floor with a disheveled brush, leaving drifts of dust in the corners. Yes, and they try to clean up when the bulk hides from the harmful sun and rests in the rooms, posting “do not disturb” signs. And if so, the room is not cleaned for a day, or even two.
- The restaurant is sorely understaffed. For lunch and dinner, you can't wait until they come to take your order for drinks. And dirty dishes are hardly removed from the tables, as a result, guests have to build turrets and pyramids from dirty plates : -)
- Before you take a plate, it is better to look at it carefully - sometimes there are poorly washed ones.
- Don't expect hot drinks for lunch and dinner! For hot, say, pork, you will have to order and be content with cold water / lemonade, or wine / sangria (such a burda - cheap wine with fruit! ). They watched the picture: a woman bought tea in the hotel bar and went to dinner - they didn’t let her in! And from the restaurant you can not take out not only products (as elsewhere), but even fruits. We saw how the family took an apple to a small child - they took it away at the exit!
- There is no mini-bar in the room! No utensils - at the request of the reception they gave out plastic disposable cups (and this is 4 stars?! ). The bathroom also has plastic cups for toothbrushes (you still need to get used to them so that they do not fall! ). No soap dish - soap was placed on a bag with a bathing cap. Towels are old and falling apart.
The windows don't keep out the noise. And ours went to the side where the animation is being held. Very noisy! And to everything else, every evening listening to a Korean "talent" with a hit a la "op-op... g * vno-style", without which not a single animation could do, is, to put it mildly, unpleasant, or even just nauseating!
Of the pluses (imagine, they are, let's be objective! ) One can name - good food (good, everything is tasty, without frills - although all kinds of seafood and the very Spanish dried meat are on the tables once a week). The pond with turtles is delightful. The beach is normal.
This is not the first time we have been to Spain - an amazing country with many amazing sights. And Catalonia is just full of them! You definitely need to go there, but for a vacation choose a good hotel, better than Gran Europe 4 *, so that at least they don’t rob!
