Everything would be fine if the hotel was positioned as a three-star. But for 4 ****, he simply does not pull. Although, of course, wonderful staff, and location, and this touching hangout of German-Austrian pensioners in the evenings in a bar with live music and dance lessons. Well, yes, Wi-Fi in the rooms is not caught at all, and in the lobby it is paid and very slow. … More ▾ Everything would be fine if the hotel was positioned as a three-star. We were on the islands for the first time, so there is nothing to compare with in this sense, but we have already been to Spain (in the Costa Brava), the rest came out both there and there very good. Well, the first impression is a six-hour flight. We flew with a 5.5-year-old child, we were afraid that it would be hard for him. But no, the person was busy reading, studying the situation, playing games. Transaero, with which we flew, gave us a children's set with pencils and a notebook with various riddles, so the child's leisure was a success. Arriving, in a moment we passed smiling passportists, received suitcases, found our "nataliturovites". Then, alas, they waited for a long time (an hour with a penny) until the whole bus was full. I didn't like it very much, because everyone was already exhausted. We drove from the south of the island to the north, covered 120 km in an hour - respect to the driver and the chic road. The hotel quickly received the keys, then we had to wait 40 minutes to go to the restaurant - the guide Emma explained that the waiters were preparing a cold dinner for us. Again, I didn’t like it: flights to Tenerife, although charter, were regular (sorry for the pun), the flight was not delayed, and our arrival was not a surprise for the hotel staff, they could have prepared.
Restaurant.
Subsequently, the restaurant disappointed more than once: for 14 days, the hot breakfast was the same bacon and scrambled eggs (scrambled eggs), the child was covered with a rash, the adults just had a piece in their throats. Dinners were also not particularly pleasing: mostly pumpkin soup, french fries and meat or fish. The cooks did not stand on ceremony with beef and fish: they stewed to the state of stew or mashed potatoes. They did a little better with pork. There was also sometimes lamb, but I can’t say anything about it - I don’t like it. Fruits - mostly apples and bananas, there was once a watermelon, tasteless papaya and wooden pears - 5 times, 3-4 times - grapes and plums. Desserts were represented by ice cream (more than once thawed and refrozen), as well as jellies and mousses. In general, you can’t stretch your legs on such food with hunger, but it doesn’t correspond to the level of the restaurant, in my opinion. In the city of Blanes (Costa Brava) in the 3 * hotel "Esplendid" we were fed much tastier, although there was no pork (the hotel belongs to the Arabs).
Hotel.
The hotel itself is not bad, the rooms are cleaned daily, towels are changed, the bed (even made) is remade. We did not calculate the schedule for changing bed linen, but it seems that there were three times in 2 weeks (inaccurate, because a couple of times we refused to clean). All Russians and Spaniards lived in Dania Park, and the Mahek corps, in my opinion, was given to the British and other Germans. But not the fact that they are more fortunate. We had two moderately deep pools and a large warm jacuzzi on the roof, while they have one cold and shallow pool + non-functioning "fields" for mini-golf.
Guide.
I liked the guide Emma. Excursions did not impose too much, as sometimes happens with hotel guides, she immediately handed out leaflets with a detailed description of bus routes, attractions, ticket prices and other things. She willingly settled all the questions that arose from tourists and hotel staff, resignedly translated everything that was asked, in general, did not skimp on her duties. A good guide, we have something (or rather, with whom) to compare.
Ocean.
The ocean, of course, is a miracle! Color, smell, power. At first, the water of the Atlantic seemed cold, but they soon got used to it. Some days the excitement was such that it was impossible to swim at all - then we grazed near the shore, tasting the extreme fuss in the huge waves. In others, they swam, and swung on the waves, and dived. In Puerto de la Cruz, the beaches are sandy and pebbly, but at a distance, almost under the very Loro Park (a menagerie, a botanical garden and a dolphinarium in combination), there is a beach with powder sand. That's where we went. At the very end of this beach, behind a natural stone fence, there is a tiny lagoon where there are almost no waves, and where even a small child can swim. (Above this lagoon there are two small restaurants with home cooking. The one to the left has the most delicious squid and grilled shrimp in the city, and for some reason sangria is served without lemon fruits. I think the second restaurant is also good, but we will visit there food there is 2-3 euros cheaper than in the center).
We also visited artificial lakes with salt water. Entrance fee: 3.5 euros for an adult, about one and a half - for a child. Umbrella - 1.5 euros. Everything is clean there, turquoise water, palm trees, sunbeds in stock, showers, toilets, cafes, bridges, grottoes, in general it is beautiful and cultural. But the pools are too small, and even once to see everything, it was enough for us. This place should be kept in mind for those who are not lucky with the weather, with the waves.
Trips.
You can travel there a lot - take a car, buy excursions, visit other islands of the archipelago, etc. We couldn’t really drive, but on our own (by bus) we got to Loro Park (wonderful shows of killer whales and dolphins, cute parrots and other animals), to the Pueblo Chico miniature park (I highly recommend both adults and children - all the sights are made in scale 1:25, everything is clear and very, VERY realistic) and twice to the capital of the island - Santa Cruz de Tenerife. There, one day, I confess, we spent time in the giant local department store El Corte Ingles (5 dresses, 3 pairs of shoes, toys for the child and coloring), but the second day was devoted to exploring historical sites and hiking. It’s good that we walked around the capital after Pueblo Chico: the sights were “recognized” much faster, and we learned the minimum of the necessary information (year of construction, architect, some interesting fact) from the “Pueblochikovsky” guide in Russian.
Translation difficulties. Language. Like the Catalans, the inhabitants of the Canaries do not want to learn languages other than their native. Everything will be explained to you with gestures and smiles, you can safely forget your English before visiting other countries. More useful Spanish-Russian phrasebook. We left ours at home. . . and got along well without it.
Back.
The flight back was very much at night, and was not easy. Take warm clothes on the plane - a blanket does not help. The stewards and stewardesses this time were inexperienced and noisy, they carried something for the entire six hours of the flight, shifted it with a roar, talked rather loudly, in general, they did not let me sleep. At the passport control, we were met with unfriendly and gloomy faces - the first unpleasant nod of the Motherland. I believe that our officials should be required to smile, as in McDonald's. They will not diminish, but people are pleased... We received luggage for more than an hour, moreover, things from our and Kazakh flights were served on one conveyor. It's time, it's time for our airports to change something in their work.
