I want to share my impressions about our 26th vacation in Egypt with my husband. Previously, we repeatedly rested in Sharm, Makadi Bay, Safaga, Dahab and Marsa Alam.
A few years ago, we snorkeled in Sharm from a yacht, and our eyes fell on the luxurious Sheraton Sharm 5 * hotel, the only seven-story hotel in Sharm, a dream arose to stay here someday. The Sheraton hotel chain is one of the largest in the world, sharing the first place with the Hilton. Accordingly, the price has always been quite high, we chose more affordable hotels. In 2020 Coronavirus has made its own adjustments to the hotel business, some hotels have closed, many have significantly reduced the price. We decided to seize the moment and take a more expensive hotel, we chose between "Sheraton Sharm 5 *" and "Hayatt 5 *". The price was exactly the same, the location is about the same. Despite the fact that the Sheraton Sharm 5 * rating was lower, they chose him.
Transfer: Flight Kyiv - Sharm El Sheikh 4 hours, Sky Up airline, excellent Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The company was a pleasant surprise, the flight was delayed by only 30 minutes, the aircraft was treated with an anti-icing solution, takeoff and landing were very smooth. Sharma airport was almost empty, they quickly checked in, showed certificates of the absence of coronavirus, which they made at home. Transfer to the hotel 15 minutes, on the way we stopped at 3 more hotels. We arrived at the place around 6:30 am.
Settlement: The reception was greeted kindly. We asked for a room on the 6th floor. I had to walk for 30 minutes while the room was cleaned. Bracelets put on after 10 am.
The room is quite spacious and comfortable, 2 beds (immediately moved at our request), sofa, coffee table, wardrobe, safe, tea and coffee set, refrigerator, TV (take a flash drive with movies), air conditioning, table, mirrors. The bathroom has a toilet, bidet, mirrors, washbasin, marble countertop, bathtub, not a shower. The hotel provides good quality care products: soap, shampoo, shower gel, body balm (replenished as needed). Towels are packed in polyethylene. The curtain in the room is quite thick, we slept well, the morning light did not interfere. And behind the curtain there is a large balcony, wooden chairs and a table, and just a stunning frontal view of the beach and the sea. After calling the reception, they brought bathrobes, slippers, an iron and an ironing board. The cleaner cleaned efficiently, responded to all requests very quickly, thank you.
The territory is huge, the hotel consists of 2 parts: the main building of 7 floors and the area of villas. Due to the pandemic, the territory of the villas is closed. There were up to 40 people in the hotel, so the infrastructure worked partially. The pools only worked near the bar. The pools are very original, cascading and with fountains in the form of lion heads. The territory is huge and green, well-groomed. There are places to walk. In the area of villas there are statues of camels, wooden bridges, towers.
Architecture: It is impossible not to note the luxurious style of the hotel. Reception made of natural materials: marble, stone, copper, wood and rattan furniture, a white piano near the lobby bar. At every step of the picture, quite interesting. You can feel the high level of the hotel. On the 7th floor near the lobby there is an exit to the patio. Natural wood bar counters, chairs, stage. In the best times of the hotel, it all worked, fountains beat, artificial rivers flowed. It must have been very beautiful. The main 7-storey building is built in levels, all rooms with frontal sea views. There are 2 towers in the center, on the top of which the Sheraton emblem flaunts, probably, in good times it was illuminated and the hotel could be seen from the sea for kilometers.
Nutrition. Only the main restaurant on the 7th floor was open. You can take a table inside, you can take it outdoors with stunning sea views. I would like to praise the hotel for observing sanitary standards during the pandemic: at the entrance to the restaurant they measure the temperature 3 times a day and enter the data in a log, cooks and waiters in gloves and masks, cutlery, napkins, salt and pepper are packed in polyethylene separately for each guest . Fruits and snacks are already arranged in portions on plates. There is a buffet, but cooks put the food of the guest's choice on the plate. Since there were very few guests at the hotel, the choice of dishes was also not large, but absolutely everything was cooked very tasty. Breakfast: scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs, pancakes, boiled eggs, cheese, sausage, sausages, vegetables, potatoes, beans, falafel, yogurt (portions) and fruits. Lunch and dinner: soup, rice, potatoes, pasta, steamed vegetables, meat, liver, poultry, fish, desserts, fruits. Grilled meat and poultry are excellent. Drinks are brought by waiters. We liked everything. Thanks!!!
Bars: there are a lot of bars in the hotel, however, due to the small number of people, only 1 was working near the pool at the entrance to the beach and a lobby bar on the 7th floor. The all inclusive system operates from 10 am to 12 am. Large selection of local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks: rum, vodka, tequila, brandy, canned beer is very good, dry red and white wine is really good, there is fanta, sprite, cola. The first hotel in my experience in Egypt where strong alcohol is really strong. The bartender in the lobby made a lovely mojito. There are snacks in the bar on the beach during the day.
Service: a very high level of the hotel is felt. This is the Sheraton 5* level. All staff are very attentive and polite. I have never seen such an intelligent cleaner anywhere, perhaps he used to work with people, but because of the crisis he temporarily changed his profession. The bartenders Reda and Ahmed are beyond praise. The restaurant manager Ismail organized the restaurant service perfectly, all the waiters and chefs are just great. I really enjoyed talking with a lifeguard named Mohamed. He not only monitors the safety of guests at sea, but can also give sensible advice on snorkeling. In addition, he has great underwater videos on YouTube.
Animation: and other entertainment in the hotel was absent due to the pandemic and the small number of guests.
Beach: the length of the beach is about 1 kilometer, umbrellas, sun loungers, fences from the wind are of high quality. The beach is very clean. There is a bar, shower and toilet. On the beach, I saw up to 20 guests, as you know, it makes no sense to take sunbeds in advance. Towels are issued near the bar, packed in polyethylene. Entrance to the sea on a short (65 m) wooden pontoon.
Sea: The hotel is located in Pasha Bay, to the north of it is Coral Bay (5 Domina hotels), to the south of Gardens Bay (from Reef Oasis Blue Bay to Hayatt). There is a private pontoon between Sheraton and Reef Oasis Blue Bey (a very beautiful villa above it). We swam everything from our hotel to the last pontoon of Coral Bay to the north and from the hotel to the end of Gardens Bay (2nd pontoon of Hayatt). The most beautiful section between Sheraton and Reef Oasis Blue Bey. I will describe this area. Our underwater camera broke, so I can’t please you with a gorgeous photo and video, I can only share my impressions. Take the word of an experienced snorkeler.
For Sharm, the reef is of high quality, the coral is very beautiful, lively and there are interesting animals. There are a lot of small fish (abudefduffs, anthias, cesiums, sweet lips, butterflies), swims in large schools. Lionfish lives under the pontoon. Many surgeons, picassos, pufferfishes, arotrons, tilusors, flutes. There are also large tuna fish. Particularly pleased with repeated encounters with eagle rays, individuals from 0.7 m to 2 m wingspan, unusual graceful creatures. Several times we met a very large moray eel. On the first Hayatt pontoon, for the first time in my life, a surgeon bit me on the knee, it hurt. When we did a swim in Gardens Bay, we met a very cute and curious Napoleon. After that, he swam with us for about 30 minutes, seeing us to our hotel, and on the last swim he swam to say goodbye to our house reef. Communication with Napoleon made an indelible impression on me. I've met them before, but this one was the friendliest. unearthly creature. We were completely delighted with the sea, reef and living creatures. This bay is definitely one of my favorites. In addition, we were lucky with the weather: the sea practically did not storm, and the water temperature was 28 degrees. Wetsuits remained in the suitcase.
I have to be objective, so I can’t help but talk about the shortcomings:
1. The hotel needs a major overhaul. It looks like it has been renovated a long time ago. The hotel has a rich interior, but everything is very old: the carved wooden furniture is worn, the walls need painting, the facade is stained, the curtains are frayed. There is mold in the bathroom.
2. The first night the mosquitoes had a party in our room. We were completely mercilessly bitten. I had to buy a fumigator (they asked at the reception, they don't have it).
3. Small selection of dishes. For us, this is not very important, the main thing is that it is edible.
4. Lack of entertainment. Now such a disaster in many hotels because of the virus. And so I would like at least once a week some oriental dances or live music.
5. Fountains for washing feet from sand at the exit from the beach would not interfere.
Leisure:
1. This time we did not take excursions, we had fun ourselves. We walked a lot around the hotel. To the south of the main building is a zone of villas (not working now), but you can walk around, there are also villas on the first line that are rented out. Behind the villas to the south is a huge abandoned unfinished complex (a private villa with a yard and other buildings), it is very interesting to wander there too.
2.2 km from the hotel on the highway, you can catch a minibus and, for a very modest fee, drive on your own to any part of Sharm. We went to the Old City, to Naama Bay, Soho Square, and to Christian churches.
3. For my birthday, we again visited the Fisherman seafood restaurant in the Old City with a view of the mosque. We ordered a huge platter of assorted seafood (lobster, mussels, squid, shrimp, fish). The owner recognized us again. While waiting for the order, we ate free snacks. I had to take my order almost intact to the hotel. The next day we had breakfast on the balcony and dined on the beach.
4. We went shopping in the stores "George Clooney" and "Daria". The prices are moderate, the choice is large, they bring it to the store and take it back for free. We collected dates, halvah, T-shirts, natural soap, toothpaste, tea, fruit. We bought a tunic, a night light made of handmade coconut and a bag made of snake skin. If you need contacts, write.
The overall impression of the rest: despite all the shortcomings, the rest was a success. It can be seen that the hotel was once luxurious, but now needs renovation. However, the style of the hotel and the high class is felt both in the interior and in the service. We felt comfortable and calm at the Sheraton. And the reef is just amazing. I give the hotel a very high rating, because. I evaluate not the state of repair and the variety of dishes, but the impressions of the rest as a whole. I will definitely be back, God bless!
Have a good rest, if you have any questions, write, I will answer!
On the same dates, our friends rested in the Oriental Rivolli, also onclusive for 195 USD. per person, we have 470 c. u. from a person.
The hotel is out of the way, if in Soho or Naomi Bay, you need to take a taxi.
No entertainment either on the beach, or in the evening at the hotel, or on the street!!!
Generally sad. Sheraton Dying Giant!!!
Good luck with your tour!
1) meals without queues and the availability of tables at any time;
2) coral reef;
3) the availability of free sunbeds at any time;
4) cultural without extortion staff.
But the main aspect was calmness, we wanted a free rest, without people, but at the same time with comfort. We got it all at the Sheraton.
We arrived at 9 am and at 10.30 we were settled at no extra charge, as requested in a smoking room, the room was good and everything in it worked perfectly. The food is good compared to other hotels, there is little seafood, but a wide range of other dishes gives you a choice, sweets and pastries are a masterpiece!! ! I don’t eat a lot of things and was worried, but when I arrived, even I found something to pamper myself from the menu.
The beach is a dream for romantics - 850 meters long, everyone relaxes near the main building, and we went further and swam in the lagoons and enjoyed romantic loneliness together...
The staff is a separate issue - all over Egypt hotels need tips, with one difference, either they are demanded from you insolently or you give them from the heart, in this hotel we have never even had a hint of this matter, well done guys, starting from the reception and ending with bars on the beach - everyone smiled at us, asked how we were doing, etc. In the dining room on the second day, they already knew that I drink coffee, and my husband orange juice, we, like most people, get money only with work, but we never regret a dollar with a Roshen bar for a person who does his job with a smile and ease! As a result, we ourselves gave thanks because we wanted to - this is a plus of the hotel in our eyes!
In general, the hotel is not for young people, it is for people from 35 and above and without children, there is no animation, but for us it was the plus of the whole holiday, we will definitely come next autumn!
I want to add to the story: a review about the Sheraton appeared, but on the page where the villas, with a rating of 1, judging by the date, we have a gap of 1 week, so I don’t understand how people had canned beans if we arrived a week later and the menu it was varied to the point of madness, our room was excellent without additional payments, the staff was just wonderful... well, the fact that they put cracks and peeled hotel places on it - this is in 80% of Egypt, then you need to go to hotels with a cost of not 1000 dollars for two, but for each! And the concept of 5 stars in Egypt is very flexible - everyone knows this very well, we did not peer into the flaws of the hotel, everything suited us!
When choosing your vacation, you need to know exactly what you want from the trip, next to us is the chic Reef Oasis Blue Bay hotel - but I won’t even go there for nothing, only because of the influx of people, the location of the villas and the naturally noisy environment !! ! But my friend, who loves fun, chose Blue Bay and often remembered me, saying that I would be crazy because of the lack of silence! So if the hotel is chosen incorrectly, even super chic and super new will only give negative impressions! Read reviews, watch YouTube and find what will be for your body and soul!! !
The hotel itself is quite worn out due to age, but this is now typical of almost all of Egypt. In fact, the settlement goes only to the central building, where all the rooms have a sea view. The villas are empty. If you believe the locals, then the settlement is 26% -30%.
All hotel staff noticeably try to please guests with their service, focusing on a small number of vacationers. There is always plenty of space in the dining room, the waiters rustle and help. The food is plentiful and varied. On the open terrace of the dining room - each time additional locations for cooking. Snacks on the beach - so-so, if someone likes this.
The rooms are worn but quite comfortable. The advantage is the huge balconies overlooking the sea, which are in the shade from lunch. Of course, leaving a tip before cleaning the room, you can get nice compliments.
Going down the elevator from the building, you almost immediately get to the beach.
The beach is huge and empty. Pretty comfortable places to stay in a wide range to choose from. Sunbeds are far from the neighbors and no one interferes with anyone. Beach cleaning is obvious. There are a couple of places to enter the shallows for children. From the center of the beach above the reef, a high stationary solid pier was made, from which it is convenient to dive. A great guy Mohamed El kon keeps order on the pier. Ships with tourists do not moor here and only sometimes drop drivers, immediately sailing away.
The hotel is quite quiet and peaceful. Animation and evening show - so-so. But we are not particularly interested in this.
Snorkeling along the reef almost every day you can meet Napoleons, turtles, eagles, large stingrays, barracudas. There was even a zebra shark and big swordfish!
For the money the hotel offers quite a good level of rest and service.
From what I would like to add - evening transportation from the hotel to Naama. This would be a nice addition to the service. Although taxi drivers are on duty at the main exit of the hotel, you still need to walk to the exit.
In summary, for a week of rest we got a hotel with good service, food, excellent snorkeling on a reef rich in living creatures. Thanks to the staff who try to make the rest of their guests enjoyable.
The main plus of the hotel is a huge beach, with a large number of free sunbeds, numerous coves for children, for lovers of solitude, you will not find better.
The main disadvantage is the animation, both for adults and for children... The Egyptian animators are not in their place, we have never seen more boring and lazier, in the kids club the children are left to their own devices, they do not speak either Russian or English, they just look bored out the window. . .
But the pros far outweigh the cons, the hotel is very suitable for lovers of a relaxing holiday. . .
Very friendly staff. Always smiled when we met.
The hotel rooms are nice and cozy, constantly cleaned, changed towels and bedding. From food we had only breakfast, quite varied. We ate and left full and happy.
For lunch and dinner we went to local cafes across the road.
There were no problems with the Internet, as our guide gave us a sim card. It was very convenient, which is rarely seen on vacation.
The hotel did not have any entertainment, it was a bit lacking.
The beach was close, but somehow not very clean.
Nice stay, recommend
To begin with, the hotel is divided into 2 parts: the main building (Main) and bungalows and two-story buildings (Resort). Maine is even more expensive than the Resort, but judging by the appearance of the building, the rooms and the sea view compensate for these costs.
We were brought to the Resort at about 3 pm, settled immediately. As it turned out, we were lucky, as we got a room in the Dolphin building overlooking the pool with music and water polo. Our room was quite tolerable, but naturally not 5 stars. Firstly, very old furniture, in some places with burrs, you have to be careful when opening drawers. In the bathroom, the shower barely stuck to the wall, everything else worked well. But the appearance, of course, depressing. Cleaning is very weak, with or without a tip, we did not see the difference. In addition, it took us a very long time to carry an extra bed for our son. At the very beginning, they generally asked if it was needed. What do you mean not needed? First, they brought a folding bed, rather narrow, then a couple of hours later, bed linen for her. There is no organization at the hotel, and this manifested itself in many ways.
We liked the territory of the Resort more than Meina. It was very green, beautiful old palm trees, many flowers, everything is very green. The hotel is far from new and the territory is its pride for sure. The pools are normal, relatively clean, sometimes leaves or insects fall there, which are not immediately caught, but this is acceptable.
The beach is large, there is enough space for everyone, comfortable sun loungers, clean. The entrance to the sea is only from the pontoon, at first our son was a little afraid to swim at a depth, but after a couple of days he felt like a fish in water. The only problem was that the hotel had strong currents, as the rescuers informed. Sometimes swimming was forbidden. Some people were indignant about this, but for us safety was above all, so on the contrary, thanks for the responsible attitude to the life of vacationers. The coral reef is very pretty, although mostly dead. Due to currents or for some other reason, there were not very many fish, but it is always interesting to see.
The food at the hotel was average, again at the level of the four. There was always chicken, there was not enough meat for meat-eaters, there was often fried fish, but with a slight salting. There were enough side dishes, but everything was fresh, there were not enough oriental spices, which Egypt is so rich in. The son leaned on fast food by the pool, unfortunately, there was not always the strength to switch him to normal food. Vegetables and fruits were fresh, the choice was normal, we can’t single out anything. Desserts and pastries were also average. We drank alcohol very moderately, mostly beer and wine. The wine was very personal, which was a pleasant surprise. No poisoning was observed among familiar tourists from the hotel. But again, I couldn’t overeat, because I wanted something special.
The animation is weak, the son was already too old for children's animation, so we cannot evaluate it. He often played water polo with me. To go to the city, you can take a taxi at the barrier at the entrance to the hotel, you can get to Naama Bay for $ 8, you can even get to Hollywood for $ 5. It is advisable to pay in pounds, otherwise they have no change from dollars and give pounds at the exchange rate. From the barrier we were also taken on an excursion to Israel, which was booked at the Red Sea Travel agency. Ordered on the Internet in Russia, there were only pleasant impressions. The Internet in the hotel caught very badly, only to send an email, there is not enough for more dirt. Liked the hookah on the roof of Maine.
In conclusion, I would like to note that the hotel, if it were in the category of 4 stars and cheaper, would not cause any complaints.
